  1. Anything on a Digital Multi meter that would give me a clue? or a simple test rig? I would hate to start going back and forth on the crossover, not sure I could remember which is better unless the other was terrible. The Sonicaps are not polarized. No capacitor used in a crossover could be polarized. All signals in the crossover are AC. Polarized capacitors are used in DC circuits. Bob Crites
  2. Well, I actually had this thing figured out pretty quickly. The proof of my solution was to be when I had Todd breadboard this entire circuit exactly as Dean had built it. But, it worked when Todd did that, so threw me off the main track for days. As Dean mentioned, Todd made a mistake in breadboarding the circuit that FIXED IT. So, that mistake caused me to think I was wrong about the problem being what I originally thought it was. That sent me off on all sorts of tangents and a flurry of testing for unlikely causes. Anyway, Dean was building what was essentially an AA crossover with much more attenuation than a standard AA has. He correctly scaled the input (to the autotransformer) capacitor from 13uF all the way down to 1.5uF. Now Klipsch and the rest of us building the AA crossover always just connect the tweeter to the downstream side of the 13uF input capacitor. Dean did that also with his scaled down input capacitor. Normally the input cap (13uF) is so large that you can ignore it as far as the tweeter circuit is concerned. But at some point, as you decrease that value, the cap would start acting as a part of the tweeter circuit. And at a value of 1.5uF, that makes a very strange tweeter circuit. Actually the strange tweeter circuit becomes an almost dead short somehow and drags down the midrange circuit. I am sure that someone could probably draw an impedance vector to show the effect, but been too long since I did that to want to try. OK Solution: Connect the tweeter circuit to the amplifier side of the autotransformer input cap. That is what Todd did by mistake when I had him duplicate the circuit on a breadboard. If he had not made that mistake, the circuit would not have worked and next step would have been for me to tell him then to connect the tweeter circuit to the input side of the cap and test again. Circuit would have worked and we would have been done!
  3. I have tried Skyline (out of the can) on chili dogs and was not impressed. For a chili dog, the best I know of is Petit Jean Chili. That is a local product and not sure it gets around the country much. http://www.petitjeanmeats.com/Chili-4-14oz-Packages/productinfo/64/ Two more excellent products for use on a chili dog are: Tony Packo's Hot Dog Sauce, and Ray's Hot Dog Sauce. Both are available on line.
  4. I did build a 3-way using the HF-140/LTH142 as the midrange several years ago. I just never got happy with it then so dropped it. Thought that crossing from mid to tweet at around 10khz would be a good combination using the Selenium D220TI on a Faital LTH 102 tractrix horn would make a good combination. I still think that configuration could work good, and might take another shot at it some day.
  5. Tony, thanks for letting us know this good news. Tell Dee we are praying for him. Bob Crites

I used to put sauce on my pulled pork but stopped doing that awhile back. Seems most of the group I feed that to prefer just the flavor that the smoke and rub add. So, now I just serve sauce on the side. For sauce, some prefer the tomato based sauce and some prefer mustard based sauce. Also, without the sauce, any left over pulled pork is excellent seasoning for green beans, pinto beans or baked beans. Works better than bacon for that in my opinion.

Try this for pulled pork. Use a Boston Butt Roast. This is pork shoulder and has the right fat to lean content. Rub the meat with your favorite rub the night before cooking. I use Pappy's. Smoke at about 225 degrees to an internal temp of 190 degrees. This usually takes around 8 hours doing two 8 to 10 pound chunks of meat. Wrap the meat in foil and put into an insulated chest for a few hours. When it is down to a temperature low enough that you can handle it, pull apart using a couple of forks or your hands. This works every time for me. I am not sure you could even make pork loin work for pulled pork. Not sure there is enough fat in the loin. I will try it that way next time , the butcher told me to get the loin Is the Pappys just the all in one seasoning ? Here is the seasoning I use. Seems to work good on everything I smoke from turkey to pork. This is on Amazon. I suppose it may be available other places. http://www.amazon.com/Pappys-Choice-Seasoning-Professional-Pack/dp/B002ODE1PQ

    Mac-Mini

Here is a good analysis of the current Mac Mini. I was about to replace my 2011 Mac Mini Server, but have decided not to buy another Mini. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/11/not-the-upgrade-we-were-hoping-for-the-2014-mac-mini-reviewed/
  10. Roy's bass boost circuit calls for a 75mH inductor with DCR less than 0.6 ohms, and 1500uF of mylar caps. That would give 3.5db of bass boost at 30hz. The UT people do think such a thing could be built, but lots of money and probably delivered on a pallet. Impedance of the Jub would go to about 3 ohms. Another alternative is done with only 50mH at less than 0.6 ohms. Only slightly more practical but that would put impedance down to 2.25 ohms.
  11. Roy did develop a bass boost circuit but it does not seem practical to build to me because it uses larger inductors than I have been able to find. Interestingly the zobel incorporated in the design that Roy did seems to lift the LF a bit when doing acoustic testing on the crossover on a Jubilee bass bin. May not be formally called a bass boost, but does seem to enhance the bass.
  12. Yes, and I am impressed with the results.
  13. Dean, no, that is a new product. I was sent a pair to evaluate. It is not my product, but I have been following it's development for several years. Bob Crites
  14. Just for fun, here is a raw driver FR trace on a K-401 horn for your enjoyment. Bob Crites
  15. Just saw this. Sorry to hear of his passing. Sincere condolences to you and the family. Bob Crites
  16. The B-3 crossover is not for the Cornwall II. It is only used in some of the last production Cornwall 1s.
  17. Hello Bob, Is the reason it won't work in a LaScala the 4500Hz crossover point between the squawker and the tweeter? If so won't a pair of your CT-125 tweeters solve the problem? Appreciate you taking the time to answer. Best Regards, Mark Also the amount of attenuation of the midrange and tweeter would be wrong for a Lascala. Bob Crites
  18. Since that is a CS crossovers it is for a Cornscala. Would not work in a Lascala. Bob Crites
  19. I don't know if they are considered to be rare or what the value might be.
  20. That is a 1966 Lascala. I have a pair of 1967 labeled the same as that one. That would be a "top loader" with the woofer access from the top instead of from the bottom like later models. Bob Crites
  21. Well, John came along and replied to you with words I wrote some time back.
  22. Klipsch has a titanium diaphragm that can be used in the KLF-30 midrange drivers. However, if you used it, you would need a crossover mod to limit how high the midrange goes. The way the crossover is set up now, the phenolic diaphragms just rolls off naturally and the tweeter pick up at that point. With a titanium diaphragm in the midrange, it would just keep going instead of rolling off naturally and would be playing along with the tweeter. Bob Crites
  23. Here is a product that works good as the interface unit. Also has phantom power for the mic. Available lots of places at under $100.00. http://tascam.com/product/us-122mkii/ Here is a good mic. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/condenser-microphones/behringer-ecm8000-microphone Like has been mentioned, REW is free and works well with the above equipment.
