  1. Hi Folks, Thanks for the replies so far-still mulling over. Living in Florida coastal-areas equals possible water intrusion so up off the floor a cpl inches !My iphone says I am just shy of ten feet above sea level . Regards, Duane in Cearwater
  2. Hi Folks, Finally getting around to fitting the cut plywood under the Klippschorns getting them off the tile floor. They are going snug right up to the corners. Do I need to put glue between the boards to ward off unwanted resonance if that is the correct term? Regards, Duane in Clearwater
  3. Hi Folks, Good ideas are being sent my way-thank you very much!! cupla comments. cinycmat-if I could rub my crystal ball how high water would rise, I'd be a bizallionaire and living in Tahiti or Paris!! I do have flood insurance and we have not had flooding right in this area but, we are in a flood zone Seadog, Marvel-no indication yet of flooding-just being overly cautious garyrc-yes, a solid mass under as you suggested cut to shape-perhaps plywood?. Pontoons would enable the music to just float in the room!!!!!! ricktate, glens-yes right into the corner they will go. they appear to be late 1982 with AK2 crossover. shakeydeal-just sitting in the middle of the room they sound pretty good! Regards, Duane in Clearwater
  4. Hi Folks, Thanks for the replies so far!! I live in a condo first floor so no sump pump allowed-I almost need permission from the Association to change my welcome mat!! I am right off Old Tampa Bay hence the reason to pick them up a bit and in a flood zone in the hurricane state-Florida!! I am also lucky that the two units abutting mine are owned Michiganders so they are not here very during much of the year to my delight for listening pleasure. I imagine it will get pretty noisy when these are all set up!!!!! Regards, Duane in Clearwater
  5. Hi Folks, Klipschorns delivered earlier in the week!!!!! Not in place yet but they fit!! Sitting on dollies now-I do want to raise them up a bit though. I had posted earlier(smallish room for Klipschorn) and stated about not using wood as risers. Reevaluated that and perhaps thick about 2-3 inches thick slab or maybe an Ikea butcher block tabletop cut to fit underneath might work. There is a used Barn Wood seller nearby so will stop to take a look. I am assuming the top cap on the speaker would be the foot print underneath-you just cannot tip these speakers over for a quick peek without a crane!! Considering also to polyurethane the wood slab to repel water if it gets into the room-would the polyurethane change any sonic signature? Part of purchase agreement was getting my Scot 399 Receiver updated with new caps and whatever else it needs. Unfortunately he does not have a Tube Tester so I am trying to locate or purchase one nearby. This is exciting!!!! Thanks for the past suggestions Regards, Duane in Clearwatrer
  6. Hi garyrc, No the condo has not been affected by outside weather conditions-lucky!! Though I am in the flood zone and if push comes to shove I am out!! The dollies are just for a few weeks till I move everything around or out. Pavers or larger patio stepping stones or something else-just an idea and yes just a few inches or so in height. Thanks for mentioning no cavities underneath.. I am on the first floor so just thinking ahead. I will look further into exactly what is inside the speakers when they come in next week. Regards, Duane in Clearwater
  7. Hi Folks, Yikes!!!!! Purchased the KHorns today and they sound great-but not in the house yet!! Will rent the smallest enclosed Uhaul next week for transport upright-they are only about ten miles away. Listened to a Glenn Gould for sibilance and my ears did not hear it, and Toots & Maytalls for bass and both sound superrrrrrrrr!! Serial # is 21Y028 on one, which I believe is 1982 but must be a late year model as it has the AK2 crossover. I understand the AA is preferable, but c'est la vie! Grills are perfect with just some surface marks on the bottom of right speaker. I plan to put them on dollies temporarily and perhaps pavers underneath when I get the old stuff out. Being located in hurricane country I want them up a bit if some water creeps into the condo. Not sure how the pavers might affect the sound-so not putting wood underneath as it absorbs water. Any suggestions? They will be in the corners so placement should be perfect! Mallette-unfortunately this end of the room has the only two corners available garyrc-will put up a curtain soon or later and will try some sort of difussion by experimenting. billybob-yes minimalist to start SWL-a new rug will be first and then yes, experimenting. Thanks for all your suggestions-will post pics when in house! Regards, Duane in Clearwater
  8. Hi Folks, Just had my first experience listening to a pair of 1982 Khorns and it was inspiring how they sound in a larger space than I have.! Considering the opportunity to purchase them however my living room is only 13x14 with a high sloping ceiling with tile flooring on the ground floor. Also between the the two corners at one end are the sliding glass doors to the patio and the other end has the kitchen pass-thru(2x5) with an open doorway to the kitchen next to it. Music, 50's-60's Jazz mostly with some rock thru records and older tube equipment. Current speakers are Altec Bi-flex which surprisingly have decent bass without a subwoofer. Concerned the room will be not be adequate for sound development as I will be only 9-10 feet away at the listening position with the sofa backed up almost to the pass-thru. So is this an opportunity or is my brain working overtime?!?! It's all about the music. Thanks for any suggestions. Regards, Duane in Clearwater
