@michaelwjones by chance do you have the outer dimensions of the 2 boxes handy? If not no problem, but BUMP either way.

If he doesn't, I can get that for you in a couple of hours when I get home.

If Shakey can get them for you, I owe him. Mine are in a friend's basement and it would be tomorrow before I could get them. Thanks.

Stick with what the designer intended your amplifier to rectify with.

You sound just like Steve at Cary when I asked him this question... 🙂

I see a pair of GZ34s in my future. Thanks.

I'm just not sure why any seller would do that.  I certainly wouldn't.

Lets see if I have this right, strangely low price, niggling questions in the buyer's mind & "I'll ship it to you if you send me a photo of a money order."

And your question is "Why would any seller do this?"

My question is why would you want to personally see how this comes out? I mean, you can't look away from a train wreck and I'd like to hear how it comes out, but not from someone on the forum (who needs La Scala IIs). This sequence just does not make sense. Something is just not quite right in my humble opinion.  I'd keep looking for a more traditional/rational transaction.

    Just my dos centavos.

  4. For sure. In an obit & rehash of his recording history I was reading yesterday , the author felt if there was one album to sum him up it was "Jerry Lee Lewis Live at the Star-Club," a 1964 album. I downloaded it and "WOW!" None of that "Prat stuff," this one will get your blood moving and your feet stomping. It shows why he became a rock legend in a instant. Its an amazing 22 minute ride.

They should fit original La Scalas too, but they might stick out about an inch at the back, since the new models of the La Scala are about an inch deeper.  There are no measurements provided, so I’m making some assumptions.  The actual measurements should probably be confirmed.

These tops were on his AL5s which he sold last year. I remember a photo of them at the time. I also spoke to the seller confirming their size.

You can think about it like this.  A $500 pair of speakers bought 10 years ago at 3% inflation (Not compounded):

    Year 1: $515

    Year 2: $530

    Year 3: $545

    Year 4: $560

    Year 5: $575

    Year 6: $590

    Year 7: $605

    Year 8: $620

    Year 9: $635

    Year 10: $650

Now look at it with current inflation (or at least what the government is claiming it is!): 9%

    Year 1: $545

    Year 2: $590

    Year 3: $635

    Year 4: $680

    Year 5: $725

    Year 6: $770

    Year 7: $815

    Year 8: $860

    Year 9: $905

    Year 10: $950

Actually, we did not have 9% inflation for 10 years, so how about 3% for 9 years and 9% for last year? That makes the number $692.

But if your chart is for buying a $500 speaker today and holding inflation at 9% compounded to 10 years, we're good to go.

But as Shaky pointed out, the price of new Heritage speakers is one of the drivers. In 2019, you could buy new Ls Scala IIs for $5500/pair. Now try a minimum of $10,000. These are the same issues that have been driving the price of used cars: there is actually a finite number of a specific consumer product on the market at any given moment. Factor in specifics such as make, manufacturer output of that product, whether new or used  & its location, the number of choices dwindles. Scarcity is a real market driver.

its strange, its very tough to find a bigger vehicle for a one way trip...

... When you change to a 1 way trip dropping off in Tampa, all of those become unavailable.

How about a round trip from Tampa? 😎

     But just barely.

I think the only thing bigger than a LSII is a boxed LSII. You see them in a room or a store placed next to a Cornwall, you think, that's doable...and then the pallets arrive. 😳

  9. In the "WOW!" "WTF?" [spoken together with eyes and month wide open] department, a pair of heavily, and I mean heavily, modded La Scala IIs:

No disrespect to the creator, but those were the first two words that popped into my head when I saw these. Similar response to seeing my first 427 Cobra in 1966.

Considering these are in original boxes, this should be easy for Uship.

Perhaps. The first pair of La Scala IIs I bought were packed and strapped one speaker per pallet for freight shipment, not UPS, FedEx, etc. I picked them up at the Yellow Freight Terminal. I suspect that is how new La Scalas are shipped.

When boxed, these easily exceed "package" limitations for most "consumer"shippers (a maximum total of 165" for all dimensions for UPS).

If I still had my F150, two pallets & and strapping tools, these would be a cinch to ship. But alas, I have none. 😕

...and have to admit an extra tube sure looks nice in an amplifier.

It was just all the old timers had for rectification way back when. I went a step further in my last build and used a SS PS section along with a SS constant current source for my input tube.  The problems associated with SS over tubes for rectification can be easily worked around with working solutions.

All this discussion actually involves a last generation Cary SLI-80. The current iteration uses SS rectification. I think its looks a bit naked without its two rear tubes...

Its seems the key is the best results occur when the amp is designed for SS rectifiers.

The article I took the "chart" from also tested a SS rectifier. They noted its voltage sag/recovery was .01 sec while the 5Y3 was almost .5 sec. Their point was in a guitar amp that difference can be audible. Such a replacement also could place a strain on the transformers and tubes. To my non-technical/engineering mind, that makes sense just looking at the numbers. One is bringing your hands together, the other snapping your fingers.

How would I go about ordering a set?

How would they be delivered, and is it possible to have a white glove service to deliver and set up?

How long are deliveries running these days?

As the others pointed out, there may not be any more available other than the pair going to the museum..

After calling Cory @ Paducah, you can call others from the Klipsch list closer to you:

    https://www.klipsch.com/dealers?c=United+States&z=0000&filter[]=heritage&r=10000

But I wonder whether Cory and Upscale would actually stock them as opposed arranging for drop shipment.

    Goof luck.
