  1. I used to do a ForrestGump and mow the park/old schoolhouse area. There was a low spot that would puddle. Serious puddle. Toads would lay eggs in it.... I would wade [ankle deep] in with a weedeater. Have fun making a big mess of myself. if a puddle will hold water for 10 days, that is enough to get from egg to toadlet... Amphibians in the desert is crazy
  2. We like last names and how they tend to describe a persons' background. Like Miller, Baker, Smith. My last name has its roots in iron, in some way. Maybe to describe our heads. Beyond simply hard. I have a friend who's last name is Potter. Not into ceramics... a stoner then I think about some .... one in particular, makes me wonder --- Hancock
  3. That's kinda how it is here. Temp will drop 40 or 50 degrees between sundown and sunrise, except during the rainy season.
  4. Make????? I can [almost] cook in the Weber w/o a fire and closing the lid. It prolly gets up to slow smoke temps. The surface temps [on the bare foot] will go 150`. I had thought about using a sat dish [pointed at the sun] to smelt metal/s.... A friend was talking about building a solar still.
  5. Kinda looks like me ... washed up on the beach after a hard day of body surfing. Mornin' All We almost got rain yesterday. It made a few spots on the windshield... es todo. The wind blew and the temp dropped.... from 102` to 98` You can really feel the difference -- not. If it rains, the temp will drop from 100` to... well, the dew point will be around 55`. Dumb Q concern "weather". When does the "wind chill" start working the opposite? I can tell you that riding a motorcycle in 100` isn't bad. .. 105`+ feels like you are sitting in front of a furnace. It ceases being fun. Gonna be warm again today. Didn't cool off much last night. There are a few clouds. They will burn off. they say we have a chance for rain thru Tues? Chance are 10 - 20%
  6. was driving back from PuertoPenasco w/o A/C. A wet towel on my head was too cold.
  7. I bet our heat index is lower than your most of the summer. i'll take the heat and low r/h. All you need to do to cool off is get wet or into the shade. I love to swim. I do not participate down here. I get too chilled when I get out. I'm coming out of the water because I'm cold, and then to air dry in two minutes is more than I care for. When I go fishing in this weather, I usually keep cool by putting my foot in the water. Dressing for the occasion helps. Don't wear a black t-shirt. The cookies must have been good. Only a piece/part of one left in the pic....
  8. John that looks good. We get high temps, yes. It will be near 100 until July. Then it cools down. Trade some temp for humidity. Our r/h is always low. 30% is considered high for here. June is a hot nasty month. This rain that is predicted is unusual. Late June is when it normally tries to rain.
  9. a little of both. Mostly the internet, itself. One bar is enough, if there is anything to pass on it. Mornin' All Better get outside and enjoy it now. In a few hours, it will be time to hide from the sun. It's somewhere around 60`. It will be 102` or so. 107` in Tucson. Drank that one cup of leftover coffee this AM. ... and it was good. Into fresh now. Fire season is in full swing. A 10 - 20% chance of rain Sunday thru Wed. Those are very good chances. That's when we will get bombed. If it doesn't rain, I expect a flush of lightning caused fires. It is still dry as ... Our dew point is still in the low to mid 20's.... single digit r/h. Fun weather to try gardening in. I water at sundown. It might have a chance to soak in. I'll be chasing wilting plants with the hose. Yes, I have used drip irrigation. Two years with it resulted in two crop failures. Back to what I know. Listening to some SteveWinwood. They were saying that he and Hendrix wanted to gig but were locked in a Mexican stand-off. Both were afraid to ask.... thought the other was "too cool" to want to play.
  10. that's iced coffee... substituting ice cream for ice Looks good I filled the "pool" today. sat in it for a few minutes.. Sarong is still damp .... and cool 4 hour later. The material is pretty heavy/thick. Evaporative cooling at its best. Need to make a shirt/coat/jacket from similar material. Be careful not to get chilled in this 100`+. You can. didn't do anything exciting today. Loafed ...after I moved a stove and raked.... some more. Wife went in for her "last day", this session. She's now on summer break. Still gets to go in once a week or so, as admin stuff needs. Because we are a little slow here .... we got our got our girl scout cookies....finally. I bet the thin mints are a block of chocolate with cookie layers. spot is buffering bad, again. turned the volume down so it wouldn't startle me when it does play. It's background noise. Can't "listen"...
  11. I wonder if they have a stunt double?
  12. can't say I didn't see that coming. A kick in the crotch is more entertaining. One or two of many this guy gets
  13. Mornin' All Getting light in the east. the hours I keep, that Lambo would be more my speed. Didn't mess around with leftover coffee this AM. About 1/2 cup... it got dumped No idea what happened to the boy, I wanna say the light came on. The past couple days, he has been volunteering help to his mom [to do his things ... laundry, cooking...]. It's a start. About got the front half of the property cut/raked clean. Wife likes it. That's fine.... wonder who is gonna maintain it? It is like housekeeping and greenskeeping... notice the "keeping" part. Why "keeping"?.... because you need to keep it how you want. It doesn't stay that way We are/might be getting some new neighbors... Cindy and Mugger. They are family, ... great aunt and uncle to the kid. Known them for many years, no, I do not know Mugger's real name. Nice guy to be friends with.
  14. Evening Gentlepeople Nothing of note or mention happening today. the routine yard work house work relax. there was mention of @Tarheel being fortunate I will say that all of are. Most of us have Ferrari grade equipment wanting for a Lambo. Fairly understanding spouses...or sig others. Yeah... I call that doing OK And @dirtmudd, letting us see Gia growing up... Solo parenting is a big job. Now back to our regularly scheduled program hold on spot is buffering. .... worse than that --- zero bars load my bowl and head toward the house... Having bars does not equate to having internet. So, I may be off the air tonight.
  15. the only other person I knew that drank that much coffee, smoked J's the same way.... at the same time the oppressively sunny is here. We still squint when it's this bright. A hat to shade your eyes goes a long way, especially if you wear glasses. The warm weather warning is this week. Then, a 90% chance of more sun over weekend... Not "monsoon" rain. No idea where it's coming from. The low pressure is coming from the north
  16. as the mayor of LasVegas calls 'em ... "the control group" I'll refrain from "going there"... Mornin' All quiet evening. the net trickled down to a stop. Was our router. I spent a few minutes troubleshooting while I was killing the leftover coffee. Wasn't a provider problem. If it had been... we actually know the people running it. That could be good or bad depending ... We ate cow last night. Mine had a piece of pig attached... fillet with a bacon wrap. and it was good wife let me cook the meat. Out in the doghouse being quiet. 2 cups of fresh , hot coffee... same problem as before... empty...
  17. I'd say so ... I believe that is DiamondHead
  18. I would like to let my wife cook eggs for me. She not a breakfast person and doesn't care for eggs. What she does to them may be a contributing factor to her not liking them. She is still shy of using steel spatulas and tries to use those plastic ones. That is a big part of it. That is why she couldn't make pancakes, either.
  19. Just another day for us. Have heard a few bikes rumble thru town over the weekend... no large groups. This is usually a stop on poker runs.
  20. my wife watches ghosty shows/reality.... the other night I sat thru part of one until I had to leave... I was laughing so hard. An "investigator" was interviewing a lady that was having issues with ghosts. She described her encounters [at night] as feeling stone cold and then burning hot and having "bad thoughts"... the investigator immediately asked if was female related. Yes... I am done for the day. Spent a couple hours cutting and raking. I'll resume activity just before sundown. Time to round up the rocks I exposed in the weeding.
  21. @dirtmudd You/Gia doing the long distance schooling program? About glad school is letting out soon, if not already? my niece is trying to home school 3. A kinder, a special needs and a high school. She's about to go nuts.
  22. Mornin' All Came to the doghouse semi-prepared. 2 cups of coffee. One cold/old and the other fresh. Nothing exciting this AM... Too early for that, I hope. Boy is back to work. So much for him helping me with the yard. I trust he does more at work than around here. Our neighbor was down for the weekend. Nice lady. She comes down every few months. Says she would rather be confined to quarters here than Tucson. Can't say I blame her. She has one of those tiny houses. Wife said she could live in one of them. No, she couldn't. Her library wouldn't fit in there. If they were that "spacious" you wouldn't see folks doing add-ons before the even move in. Neighbor had a porch [as big as the "house"] put up. And a shed and , what appears to be, outdoor bathing facilities. I haven't seen the house. I bet the bathroom is one that you can shit, shower and shave all at the same time. You've seen them... The "bathroom" was the shower stall.... with a floor drain. We got a dozen and a half of fresh eggs. Not been washed, even. No refrigeration required. Might give the incentive to refurbish the chicken coops. They have been idle for many years... before we got the place. Refurbish is more like tear down and rebuild. Everything on this property was built from reclaimed materials. Would be fun to just order a bunch of lumber and "go to town" instead of continuing this reclaim/recycle theme. Odd thing about that... the lady who built this place was a relative of one of the governors. Think she would have done with more new materials. No argument on the redwood...I'll bet the railroad station it came from was part of her connections.
  23. Never really did hot knives. We hardly ever saw hash. It used to get "dry" over the summer... as in , nothing to be had.
  24. I'm glad you said that. I was starting to feel like a bad influence around here...
