  1. I love my Cornwall III's, but treally need to free up some space in the room which would work better with a pair of tower type speakers. I live in Central NY state and am willing to travel in the region for a nice pair. KLF-30's might also work for me. Thanks for any leads.

  2. Anyone thinking of building a 2A3 based amp might need this. Removed form lab or military grade equipment hermetically sealed with 4 mounting posts for machine screws. Primary 110V  Secondary 2.5V AC. Weighs about 5 pounds. Manufacturer unclear to me. 3" H, 3 1/4" X 2 1/2 ".  $18 plus postage

  3. About 5 months ago I placed an order with Decware for their Zen Tori amp.  I was happy to know at the time that it was "self biasing",  and the company has great reviews. However, 2 weeks ago learning that my unit was  still months from being built, I took the plunge for a used  MC-275 Mark VI available in my area.  Of course it is not self biasing.  I'm very happy with the way it sounds. Reading up on the topic of "self biasing" I learned that the cathode bias resistor used  is just an approximation, and that the tubes gtherefore operate at lower power and the bias resistor generates heat, and that the circuit design is in many ways less effective than one with the bias manually set. Despite that, the Decware amps are quite respected. Wondering if the experts out there have any comments.  Decware does make amps that have manually set biasing as well.

  4. Works Great. Been using this for the past 18 years but that MC 275 was pricey, so......going tube route now,  needs a new home.  Afraid to ship, so pick up in Central NY or I can meet part way reasonable drive.  Use the link for more pictures.

  5. I will get some pictures up soon.  I have a basically near new looking Academy Center Channel speaker for $325. It is oiled walnut.  I also have a KLF-C7 center with some veneer damage but perfect sound and grillcloth for $250.  I just acquired an MC275 to drive my Cornwalls, so my MC-206 is also on the block for $3300, and I am going back to straight 2 channel stereo.  The MC-206 looks EXC and has no issues. I can't ship the amp but could ship the speakers.

I have never heard a 2A3  tube amplifier. That is one I have not built. The reason being following what George Anderson has to say about it. http://tubelab.com/  His description is like the 45 tube but having 2 45 tubes in one envelope. By the way the 45 tube is one of the best sounding ones you will find but low on power. I have a SS 45 tube amplifier and enjoy the sound it makes. I consider my SE 300b amplifier the best sounding of all the tube amplifiers I own. For all the diy'ers on this forum George's SSE amplifier is one of the best builds out there. I probably listen with it more than my other tube amplifiers. You will not go wrong with the EL34 family of tubes.

Can you steer me to the likn with the schematic for this SSE amp?

  7. I have a pair of 1978 LaScalas with AA crossovers that I recapped, and over the last year since getting them have tried a few things. I ran them originally with a Marantz 2275, and subsequently with a Fisher 500C receiver. Both sounded great. They even sounded fine with a new Yamaha 2 channel SS amp. Of all three, I preferred the Marantz combination.  Having foolishly sold the Marantz and the Fisher, I'm now using an Onkyo 5 channel receiver from ?2005. It does not sound as good at all. This is a temporizing measure until my Decware Zen Torii arrives, hopefully in April.

Without hearing both..at the same time. I am trolling without a motor but I am willing to learn.

I have had a few sets of Forte I and II. I have, happily, moved them all over rooms to find their 'home' spot. When right, the Forte can produce a full sound stage, < that means a lot. The Forte used to dig deeper than the Cornwall (AND, all other Klipsch) and the Cornwall never was known for their overpowering mids.

Deepening the bass, correcting the mids and sharpening the highs with Ti, should make Cornwalls ready to school the Forte3 ..and many others.

    Chorus II VS Chornwall3, anyone?

I wanted to do the same comparison, as I have Cornwall 3's so I picked up a pair of Chorus 2's about 150 miles from home about 6 weeks ago.  My hope was that in my smallish room the Chorus 2's would do the job and free up some space for me, and that I'd sell the Cornwalls and pocket some $$.  Well, after a week of back and forth it was clear that the Cornwalls were the keepers. More present, more feel. It's got to be those massive cabinets.  Not that the Chorus 2's weren't really good, they just were not going to be the keepers for me. I found a new owner for the Chorus 2's locally who had been wanting a pair for a long time and he's happy too.
