  1. Hi all, Our group has Klipsch MCM 1900's currently without crossovers. We're new to these beasts, so can the wiser here on the forum explain the pros and cons of pairing them with either of analog crossover (we've been recommended to use Power FEP 204) vs DSP crossover (Xilica XP4080)? Thanks in adv!
  2. Thank you Chris! We're seeing a used Xilica can be copped for around the same as the Ashly – appreciate the recommendation. Any other forum members care to comment on Ashly vs Xilica? As for analog splitters/distribution networks, and dedicated analogue crossover for the MCMs (ours didn't come with a crossover), are there options on that side if we wanted to forgo digital processing?
  3. Hi all, We're assembling a sound system for (for now) one-off dance-orientated events – consisting of 6 Klipschorns and a pair of Klipsch MCM 1900, not for using all at once but in different combinations depending on the scale of the event and the venue. Our choice of amp for now is the Lab Gruppen C10:8, with which, for example, we could drive all 6 Klipschorns (or more or fewer), or the MCMs with two channels bridged + up to 4 Klipschorns. We could also pair the MCMs with a dedicated amp and crossover, but wonder if we do that at a later stage. To complete a basic setup we know we need either an analog dividing network or a DSP (for example, the Ashly 4.8sp), to split into as many channels as we need before going into the amp. This could get into analog vs digital, preserving purity of signal etc... and we're also looking for a solution that can work for different configurations, as mentioned, at least to get us going. What do y'all recommend? Thanks in advance!
  4. The turntables (Technics) and digital turntables (Pioneer) would go into a Urei rotary mixer, then the output from there (to the mixing board)... Would certain amplifiers (post-mixing board) work better than others given we're going out to it from a mixing board? E.g. SS vs Tube/SET?
  5. And... run the board into the amplifier and K-Horns? Pls say more
  6. Hi all, here comes another desperately rookie question... A system of two Klipschorns is planned for use in an Ambient music "listening"/performance event, at least for the playing of recorded music (vinyl and hi-quality digital) before a live performance by a guest artist. An amplifier is yet to be defined for this setup. Is it feasible/desirable for the live performance – our first guest plays sitar and synthesizers – to somehow run through the same system (via a mixing board) as opposed to a separate P.A.? If it is feasible/desirable from an audio standpoint, what amplification and other components (including for seamless transition from DJ to live performer) would be advised? Thanks in adv!
  7. Hi all, Looking to shop for speaker cable (for use with McIntosh MC250 + Klipschorns) without breaking the bank: for best sound and rugged for repeated setup and break down of a sound system in multiple venues. Any recommendations – Amazon or pro audio shop, including in our local SoCal/LA area? Thanks in adv!
  8. Asking this again: You'll see we have side wings that would have previously had grill cloth attached. They're structurally unsound towards the bottom of the bass cabinet assembly, so we'd assume these could simply come off with no detriment to the sound? Alternatively we could restore the grill cloth even if the top horn is likely to remain open. Any recommendations here? Thanks in adv!
  9. Thanks Kevin & thanks all. I hope it’s the case that the bass cabinet has a lid already out of the current construction. Will get to check at the weekend.
  10. Glens, it looks to us like the flat piece is more fully secured to the top-hat (therefore its bottom) that it is to the bass bin. Are you getting at the idea that it could matter less to replace the bottom of the top-hat than mess with the bass cabinet?
  11. Also, you'll see we have side wings that would have previously had grill cloth attached. They're structurally unsound towards the bottom of the bass cabinet assembly, so we'd assume these could simply come off with no detriment to the sound? Alternatively we could restore the grill cloth even if the top horn is likely to remain open. Any recommendations here?
  12. I've no working snide detector so it's all gratitude. Thank you! Would placing a new 'lid' on top of the bass cabinet (given the one that's seen in the pics would remain with the top hat once separated) be straightforward? Just a birch ply piece cut to the same size and screwed into place using existing fixings?
