I threw all my vinyl in a dumpster in 1983. No regrets. I ripped all my compact discs to flac in 2020, once again, no regrets. I don't use anything that spins.(not entirely true. I have a cd player for when the internet is down, which is hardly ever.) Too much effort involved. I just tap on a screen now. Life is good.

I never threw my CD collection away and I'm glad. Redicovering it with a nice CEC transport and tube DAC. Have TIDAL Hi-Fi and also buying very specific records that are not available otherwise. My new Technics SL1210 GR player is totally silent.

My CWIVs continue to impress after about 4 months of ownership. I'm still looking for the perfect integrated or separates combo to power them. But to be honest, they sound fantastic out of my Onkyo TXNR757 A/V receiver. Even with this Onkyo, they responded well to being bi-amped and I also noticed a difference when I upgraded to higher quality 12 gauge speaker cable. Nothing too crazy, but better cabling than what I had.

I'm gonna be really pissed if I spend 5 grand on new amp/dac/pre and it sounds the same as this $800 A/V receiver....Really pissed...

I use a Reisong A10 with Tungsol EL34s and Voshkod preamp tubes with my Cornwall IIIs. Sounds really beautiful with deep bass. The bass is really dependent on the position of the speakers in relation to the corners and wall behind the speakers.

I feel the same way. I have a couple of nice Turntables with good cartridges and a nice sounding Puffin phono preamp and an awesome sounding Denefrips Pontus DAC playing thru my Hermes DDC and Node 2. All of this is playing into my PL EVO 400i and the system synergy along with those Forte IVs is the best I have ever heard in someones home. Now my search is still on for new music or new to me music. The Forte IVs are very under rated IMHO. Especially on this forum where its mostly just macho men that think speakers need to be BIG the BIGGER the better no matter what size room you are in.

With horn speakers that's the journey always towards bigger and bigger... 😄

Sounds fantastic with single ended tube amps.

Yeah, I suppose I should mention the room layout is not what it will be after the speakers are in place :)

I suppose I was trying to say design your room around Cornwalls. With Khorns, design your house around them...LOL Like the lady working at  Klipsch who bought a house specifically to fit Khorns.

What I like most is this guy is from the U.K - his "reference" speakers used to be Quad electrostatics. He never heard a Klipschorn - until recently. And now this is the best he's ever heard.

Well Mr. Rob...............there's more to come. And it's better than the original Klipschorn.

And IMHO he really needs to do something about that room!!!!!!! Then he'll really hear what they sound like!

He has too much stuff! LOL. However, I like his selection of turntables. With Klipschorns, you need to build your house around it. :-D

    Hi!

I am a happy Klipsch RF 7 ii owner for 5 years now.

Now i am thinking on a serious upgrade to Klipsch Cornwall 4.

I will use them for Music & Movies.

My room is absolut 20 square meters.

    Is this an good upgrade?

    Best regards.

    Jonas.

If you can keep them between 6 and 15 feet apart , it should sound very good. I keep my IIIs about 8 feet apart and close to the walls and corners. You can adjust the amount of bass you want by the distance from the wall and corners.

I had a GR for two years.  ..It's a fabulous turntable, you'll be very happy with it.  While it doesn't have quite the tactile build quality of the G, or GAE (which stands for "G - Anniversary Edition") it is still heads and shoulders above ANY other $1700 turntable I've come across.  ..And, like the G/GAE, it has stellar speed stability and S/N ratio.

LPs will only be for a very specialized collection of older jazz and Indian classical music and I'm starting from zero.

I was not considering direct drive until very recently but after reading about these new Technics it just seems far more logical and plug and play compared to turntables with free standing motors and fishing line thread. ;-)

Garrard idlers interest me but they are now too expensive and time consuming to restore.

  9. I found it started to sound good on the bass well past 100 hours with my new Cornwall IIIs. After 300 hours, it seems to have stabilized. I played a lot of tracks with strong bass but a lot of different types of music. I did not blast the speakers so it took more time.

I will start by saying I loved the Cornwall III's when I auditioned them many years ago.  Unfortunately, spending that amount of money at the time was out of the question. (I'm a teacher)  The only other speaker in the room that sounded marginally better to me was, of course, the klipschorns... even more out of my price range at the time.  Now that my house is paid off, I'm on the prowl for a nice set of speakers for my 2.2 system ( 2 mains and two subs) that is in my living room which opens up into the dining room and kitchen.  I plan on auditioning the Cornwall IV's and give them a fair chance.  Although, I always like to buy used to save a bunch!  I love it when poeple have to run out and buy the latest and greatest gear, and then in 6 months to a year it up for sale at a significant discount!  (Well, most of the time, sometimes people think their used gear is worth just as much as when it was new!)

I can see how some poeple say they are antiquated.  I think I would say that they have that older boxy look going on...and some people like that.  I think they are perfect for a slight mid century modern appeal.  Will they win any  speaker design competitions...nope!  But if you like them and they sound good... bonus!  Now, they are not antiquated on the inside with the updated horns/ports//etc.

Now, if you are looking at spending around 6K on a set, I would strongly, and I mean strongly listen to both the Focal Electra 1028BE and the Focal Electra 1038BE.  The 1028BE can be found used in the 3k-4k price range.  The 1038BE's can still be found new in the upper 6K range.  These, for most people in the real world, will be better sounding speakers.  I had the luxury of comparing a set of Focal 1028BE's to my RF 83's/Forte II's and RF 7's in my own listening space.... and after much critical listening, my brother summed it up perfectly; "The Klipsch speakers sound very good on their own, but they sound like sizzle sticks compared to those goofy European looking things!"  So, if you don't mind the modern look of the Focal speaker, I strongly suggest listening to either of the mentioned models.  Your ears just might thank you.

Cornwall looks like a gentle giant. However, there are a lot of expensive ugly and mean looking speakers out there. :-D

FWIW, I thought I’d give an update on this.

I’ve finally managed to make the Cornwalls sing in my setting. Biggest improvement comes from switching (from smaller gauge) to 11AWG speaker cables. This made the woofer pump bigger bass. Next is to clean up power with a power conditioner and upgrade power cords for the amplifier. This tightened up the bass quite a bit. I’m happy with how they sound now. :)

With my 6 watt SET, I had to put the Cornwall IIIs close to the walls and corners to get bass. Good balanced bass but not slamming bass. However, I'm not willing to give up on SET amps. I have them on dollies about 3" off the floor to avoid any floor interaction. I use Audio Sensibility speaker cables and a PL-PLUS DMC Furman power conditioner.
