  1. Kelly, Let's see what we can do without the 400 restriction. I'll figure out what else to sell to raise the necessary funds. Thanks again.
  2. Mike an Kelly, thank you both once again. Mike, I am aware of Shure replacement deal in the US but I am not sure if it exists in Canada. I'll be in the US for Christmas and I am planning to mail it during that time. Kelly, I put an ad in the local newspaper for Klipsch heritage series speakers and I may need the money for that. I really intend to follow your suggestion and get a good TT in the near future. Until then Dual 721 should be ok but I know that it is not a permanent solution.

Makes sense. kh---------------- Kelly, Thank you for the link and the suggestion. Actually, I've collected six TTs over the summer (Dual 721, 1214, Marantz 6200, and three others). I wasn't sure whether to sell all of them to finance a better TT or set-up one of them properly (with new stylus, etc) and use what I have. Yes, it makes sens to get the service manual and set-up the 721 properly, then I can decide. Thanks again for the suggestion.
  4. Mike, Thank you for the detailed instructions. I am quite new at this and thats exactly what I needed. I set it up with V15-IV and it sounds pretty good better than the Marantz 6200 (which has a not as good cartridge). One thing I noticed though, the anti skating dial seems to rotate easily with no apparent effect. I just checked tracking and tracking seems to be fine. Tomorrow I will use the test record again and perform all the other tests to make sure everything is right. So far so good- thanks again.
  5. Mike, I also have a Dual 721 but I found it too difficult to set it up propertly, so instead I am using a Marantz 6200 (despite the fact that 721 is probably a better TT). How do you like yours? There are plenty of useful information in Mobile's post and I will give it another try.
  6. Craig, Actually I was as pleasantly surprised as you are to see Ryan posting here - I am glad he did.
  7. Hi Ryan, Welcome to the Klipsch forum. I am glad that you joined in and hope that you stay around. I am sure many of us will benefit from your vast knowledge and experience of HHScott gear. kudret
  8. Thanks Craig, I will give it a try and let you know. kudret
  9. Mike, did you ever found out what was wrong with your amp? I am also having a balance problem with my 299A. I noticed that the sound-stage is always on the left - close to the left speaker. Then I did some testing with the STEREO BALANCE knob. When I turn the knob all the way left to Channel A, the right speaker goes silent (as expected) but when I turn the knob all the way right to Channel B, the left speaker does not go silent - there is a considerable amount of sound coming from the left speaker. This is probably the reason that all the vocals are coming from the left side. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you.
  10. Andy, I am no expert by any measure but I would say go and get yourself a TT. I have a Sony 775 SACD player and I was quite happy with it. Recently I got a Marantz 6200 TT from a garage sale and about 40 records and I can't get enough of listening to them. Now I intend to get a better cartridge and start collecting records. Surely you get the dust clicks and all that but that's a small price to pay in exchange for the sweet sound you get. That's my 2cents anyway. -kudret
  11. Speaking of shipping misshaps, I decided to have my second 299 shipped to me by USPS. Yesterday I got a confirmation from the seller that the amp was shipped and should be here (in Canada) in 4-6 weeks. WHAT THA .... 4-6 weeks - honestly I still couldn't get over it. How can one wait for 4-6 weeks? UPS would have cost me the same and take only 3 days. I am glad at least I insisted that he double-box it - who knows how many times it will be tossed around before it arrives.
  12. Mobile, can you give me some suggestions. I got a generic replacement stylus for my Shure M75ED and I did not like how it sounded at all. Instead of fooling around and wasting money maybe I should just get a decent one to begin with. What would you suggest for $100-125?
  13. Andy, I got my first 299 a couple of months ago for $110 and had Ryan Inman restore it for me. Three days ago I got another 299 (B this time which has better tubes and wood case) and I am buying a restoration kit from Ryan to replace the coupling capacitors and the selenium rectifier myself. I better learn how to restore and look after my amps as I intend to buy a 299 C or D as well (not right away of course, but the way prices are increasing I may not be able to afford it ). I am using my 299 with a Marantz 6200 TT and I can't describe how good my setup sounds (to me). BTW, can anybody recommend a cartridge. I've heard good things about Grado Black ($40). I've also seen Shure V15-IV HE for around $65. Any other suggestions? kudret This message has been edited by Kudret on 09-15-2002 at 08:28 PM
  14. Another vote for Magnum Dynalab ST-2. I got one recently to use it with my Scott 310E. I installed it outside and I am very happy with it. It can also be installed sideways to make it directional (or, as dubai mentioned, it can be used indoors). kudret
  15. Andy, Congrats on your 222D. I recently got a 299 and I am extremely happy with it. Having said that, I wouldn't mind getting a 299C or Eico HF81 to compare. I have a feeling that, regardless of the outcome, I would keep them all. For your 222D if you are considering restoration kits, contact Ryan Inman on scott forum. His kits were less expensive than VTV kits when I checked. Enjoy your new toy. Cheers.
  16. fini, I like the CE 775 Scott 299 combination very much. Scott tamed all the harshness that I had with my SS setup. Mobile, The weakest link in my system at the moment is my speakers (I am missing the external contour box that was supposed to be used with these speakers - KLH 12). I am planning to try some vintage speakers from my friend's close to 50 pairs of vintage speaker stock . When I visited him I felt like a kid in the candy store. Today I connected my Marantz 6200 TT and things got even better. Did I say I really like my Scott . Cheers. kudret This message has been edited by Kudret on 09-07-2002 at 09:00 PM
  17. >>Please get you some heritage Klipsch the 299 will love you for it !! I will Craig, it's only a matter of time. kudret
  18. Hi Everyone, Ive been a lurker on this forum for some time now and educating myself about the vintage tube amps, Klipsch speakers, etc. Not being too happy with my SS setup (see below), recently I decided to take the plunge into the tube world and bought a Scott 299(late A model) on eBay for $110 which turned out to be a clean unit. I initially was considering buying a restoration kit from Ryan Inman over at the HHScott forum but then I decided to ask him to do the restoration job for me, and I am glad I did - he did a superb job. Thank you Ryan. At the same time as I bought my 299, I put an ad in the local newspaper for vintage Klipsch speakers. I ended up getting a single Heresy for $40 but more importantly I made a new friend who has been collecting tube gear and vintage speakers for years - he has a Scott 299D and Spica-TC50 himself. He also had a Scott 310E tuner that he was not using and I am so happy that he sold it to me at a very good price ($200). The tuner had two shorted tubes and as soon as I replaced those, it performs like new. Ive read that old tuners usually need to be re-aligned but I did not notice anything wrong with mine. Especially after I installed a Magnum Dynalab ST-2 antenna I can receive stations that I did not know existed, from one end of the dial to the other. As for my vintage speaker search, I found a pair of vintage KLH Model Twelve speakers at a garage sale for $40. They are not very efficient but, I like the way sound and decided to use them with my 299 for now. To give you some perspective, I have a decent HT setup (Lexicon DC2, Anthem MCA5-II, Diva speakers, and Sony CE 775 SACD player) that I am very happy with its HT performance. The music is a different story though - it sounded so harsh and tiring that I quit listening to music. But all that has changed now. Since I received my 299 and connected it to KLH 12s, Ive been listening to music (mostly FM and some CDs) for at least 3-4 hours a day. This will sound like cliché to you all but, music is now more realistic, engaging, and detailed compared to my SS setup above. I am also aware that KLHs are not probably the best match for my 299 but they are a better match than Divas. Eventually I would like to get some LaScalas or even KHorns to complete my setup. In the end, I ended up spending $500 on a tube system that I am enjoying immensely and I have the members of this forum (especially NOS440) and HHScott forum to thank for that. Cheers. kudret
  19. I don't know. All he said was "Sovtek tubes". If I seriously consider buying it, I'll ask for more information.
  20. I was considering this player because of its price as a tube CD player. I won't be able to audition it before I buy it. I know that the current owner bought it used and its tubes are upgraded to Sovtek. To put things into perspective, I have a decent Home Theater system and I decided to setup a tube system for music. I am considering a modifed Dynaco st-70 (or maybe an Eico HF-81, which seems more affordable at the moment) and some Klipsch Heresey speakers. I don't have a CD player and Jolida 601 could fit nicely into this setup. It looks like, due to budget limitations, it will take me while to put this together, but that's part of the fun, isn't it?
  21. Thanks mobile for your quick reply. I've searched all over the web to find more information about this CD player with not much luck. Where can I find more information about it? How do I know which version it is?
  22. I am not sure if this the best place to ask about this, but I am considering to buy a Jolida 601 CD player for $150. Is this a good buy?
