  1. SO I was getting ready to play a cd and accidently turned the volume up so I could hear a hiss from the CD player. I realized I must have been at max volume on my As-1200. I thought I had reset it back to normal level, but must have been at 11-12 o'clock on the volume knob when I turned it on. 3-4 seconds max. I was with my infant sun who immediately cried, and I immediately turned it off. My ears were not ringing and he immediately calmed down. Did I mess up my Chorus IIs? I just played some David Drubek and it sounded ok, but I don't know how to tell if I blew or damaged a driver/tweeter. God I am an idiot.... Appreciate the input....
  2. I should be more specific- the phono stage is incredible! I have been buying a boatload more records because of it. I bought it in June when there was a COVID sale from a reputable and licensed dealer. PAID WAY below retail Anyways this is my AMP!
  3. I absolutely love the AS 1200...
  4. Put in both (Crites) and am in love- needed Carpet and sound tiles and long room placement. BLOWN AWAY! I guarantee the Crites diaphragms are the same as the Klipsch - all parts are probably sourced from the same distributor anyways- show me evidence to the contrary? Anyways - long term plan- save up for Corn IV, LaScala or K horn for my 40th birthday present (8 years away). I want to try to save 500.00-1k a year... ALso bought the AS 1200. PERFECT COMBO for now! Thanks for everyone's help!
  5. SO my final post on this issue)! I found the new Ti diaphragms gave sound the clarity I wanted. The new cross overs and TI tweeters were just too bright like the difference between a wispy cotton color and snow white.... I put back the original cross over and now- I got what I was looking for. Its warm but nower clearer highs and better percussion. Thanks for every ones input! I am going to save the crites crossovers in case of disaster, or a component failure.(May they go unused for many years to come) all the best Jon
  6. 100 agree did one just tweeters and one with crossovers ... tweeters was the way to go !!
  7. Ok I did it, installed today in one of my two...(myself! Very proud only took me 90 minutes)- definitely Brighter, symbols and vocals are clearer- but almost harsher in your face...I kind of find myself preferring the original softer sound right now even if it was not as vivid- Playing Sgt Pepper mono. 20 minutes in of play time... Any advice? Will they settle in with break in? I am going to play the full album on each side to compare. I am slightly ambivalent. Vocals are clearer but I am not sure I enjoy listening as much...
  8. I would hope not. I believe the reviews of Crites work indicate performance congruent with Klipsch factory products...am I correct? You all have been in this world far longer than I!
  9. That is a beauty- I am about 5-7 months from that though unfortunately...the upgrades emptied my hi fi fund for the being. Figured the speakers were the oldest components in my system but my favorite addition!
  10. cool this is reassuring I made the right call- the cost to get new caps and kit wasnt much different than new Crossovers so I just splurged. I am so nervous of messing these up I am calling an electrician to do the install. I will post back with the results. Anyone have a recommendation for screening? My usual reference song is the Title Theme from Last of the Mohicans...
  11. I am reaching out to an electrician I know to the install. Anything I should be worried about? I am pumped for when the Crites arrive!
  12. I am thinking A-S 800 or 1100... I like the price of the 800 but I dont know if it is a huge upgrade from my receiver. I know the A-s are dedicated amplifier so maybe I will get better fidelity? The original owner passed and I purchased from my local Hi-fI shop ,from the used inventory. (He was consigning for the estate). Based on the rusty screws my guess was these were in the basement (humidity) and probably had no work done. I opened the back connection port and did see the board said Klipsch Chorus II, so I do not think any work had been done. Other than that I have been pretty happy with the sound. (switched from Paradigms which I felt were too sterile/fatiguing). My goal is to get another 20-30 years out of these speakers hence the upgrades. I am not handy at all and dont want to mess these up too much... I may offer to pay my dealer to install the updates for me. My Room is 13x15 and have run a Yamamah R-S 700 receiver (2 channel dedicated unit), Project debut with Ortofon Blue and Cambridge Azur 640 Cd with Muse model II external DAC. I am getting to my endgame and hope these updates could help polish up the sound I want. Sometimes I feel it is a touch flat...
  13. Klipsch Chorus II's from 1991 Should I update the crossovers/ have them recapped? I love these babies. I am the second owner and these are my speakers!!!! should I contact Crites? I want to see how beautiful these can sound! I run with a 2009 Yamaha RS-700 100w 2 channel receiver. 13x15 foot room. Thinking of uprgrading to the A-S Series... Thanks!
