  1. I saw this and I thought I would pass it on if anyone needs a single for parts, etc. It's on offer up.
  2. I am restoring a set of KG4's. One of the basses had an odd cut out, so that became a stain sample, while the other one is what I'm giving away for free if you pick it up, or you just pay for packaging and shipping from 60511. (Big Rock, IL)
  3. A little pricey, but seems to be in decent condition if you're looking for an original Forte'. They look to be well taken care of other than the dust cap on the passive. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1339619846943416/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_general&referral_story_type=general&tracking={"qid"%3A"-3094537266630908907"%2C"mf_story_key"%3A"916482759089158754"%2C"commerce_rank_obj"%3A"{\"target_id\"%3A916482759089158754%2C\"target_type\"%3A6%2C\"primary_position\"%3A11%2C\"ranking_signature\"%3A4734822571891188797%2C\"commerce_channel\"%3A501%2C\"value\"%3A0.00016849308581152%2C\"upsell_type\"%3A3522%2C\"candidate_retrieval_source_map\"%3A{\"6918747278189444\"%3A3003%2C\"6792346354217714\"%3A3501%2C\"23948370514806710\"%3A701%2C\"6156845127750742\"%3A3002%2C\"7198712160140916\"%3A3001%2C\"23919333554381022\"%3A3007}%2C\"grouping_info\"%3Anull}"%2C"lightning_feed_qid"%3A"-3094539740552361198"%2C"lightning_feed_ranking_signature"%3A"4734822571891188797"%2C"ftmd_400706"%3A"111112l"}
  4. They are perhaps still available for several reasons: #1 A lot, and I mean a lot of people on marketplace are not very considerate. If it sells, they don't update. #2 Many people post fake items hoping you'll look at their other items in the meantime. #3 The speakers are in below average condition with damage to two of the four drivers and the cabinets need refinishing. The drivers aren't very common anymore and not a lot of people are up for the task of refurbishing speakers. #4 There are other decent used speaker options in this price range that may need less work or perhaps get the wife approval thumbs up! I enjoy bringing tired Klipsch speakers back to life, but at $500, I would probably pass on this set.
  5. I've done bracing on several other Klipsch speakers and in my opinion, it's more of a tinkering thing and perhaps somewhat of a placebo effect. Just because I did something to the speaker, it must sound better, right? It does sound more solid when you tap the cabinet from top to bottom, but will that translate into positively transforming the sound for the better, and if so, can you really hear any difference in the audio, or just when you tap on the cabinet? In my past experience, I did an A/B comparison as I had two sets of Forte's, one modified and one stock. I honestly couldn't hear any difference. However, I don't have the golden ears like some people... you know, the ones that spend big $$$ on cable risers, speaker cables that cost as much as my car, etc.
  6. That was the original goal... sand them and just seal them... but they needed filling on some seams, and I thought that wouldn't look the best as it was on the top. Perhaps a dark stain will cover it up.
  7. Next, I added a little piece between the two woofers and then a front to back brace on the top. And finally a side to side brace: With some laser engraving I did...
  8. Then I was eying some scrap wood that seemed like it wanted to be part of the restoration... and it did by becoming some internal bracing. I'm bit sure it needed it, but it was either put it in the speaker or put it in the burn pile, so I had a little fun with it. Glued and screwed to add a little beef behind the thin section between the horn and top driver!
  9. I decided to pick up a pair of KG4's that looked decent for a simple cabinet refinish to remove scratches and the typical water marks. However, upon arrival, they had the typical wife treatment with the water rings on the top, but they took it to the next level and let the water hit the seems, so there was more damage that seen in the online pics. Ugh! Anyway, this is what I did. I would like your thoughts on a finish at the end. The speakers upon purchase:
  10. I hear you. I guess what I was trying to say is that I am somewhat impressed that all of mine, at around 20 years, are still going strong. Kudos to good amplifier design and quality parts. However, even the best parts eventually wear out. As the sub in this posting is exactly 20 years old, I feel the asking price of this sub is priced much too high, as I wouldn't expect to get another 20 years out of it.... In addition, there are much better current options for the price. For example, a pair of SVS SB-3000's could be purchased new for less than this used sub. And, you are guaranteed to have it work for at least 5 more years with their warranty... and hopefully many years after that as well.
  11. I think it just reminds me of the cheesy kenwood system my family bought right around 1990. It had two pretty cool looking 5 sided satellite speakers consisting of two 4.5" mids and a paper cone tweeter and they were crossed at 150hz. The sub, which consisted of two 6.5 drivers in a bandpass enclosure with no crossover handled the low end. It was boomy and very directional! But boy, did we give that system a workout all through high school!
  12. True... and I appreciate the value it added to small systems back in the day.
  13. What's your issue? Just looking to get under someone's skin today? I bought all 4 of mine used when they were all well over 10 years old and they all worked without any noise, etc. I'm sure there are many out there that didn't make it that long and gave up the ghost a little early. Therefore, I am not saying all Velodyne subs will go 20 years. However, I think when you start getting up there in age, the chances of amp failure increase exponentially. So, I personally would base the value taking that into consideration. I've had mine only for a couple years after buying them on the used market and have been lucky not to have any issues. This is a great deal better than the handful of Klipsch subs I bought both used and new( 4 sw 15's, 1 sw12, 1 rsw10, rt 10, sw 8, 2 sw 10's and I'm sure several others that have slipped my mind) and MOST of them developed amp issues very quickly. The only sub that didn't have an issue was the RSW10... although that kind of did because the volume knob stopped working correctly.
  14. Yup! I wouldn't count on the amp working for too much longer... So I would just base the value mainly on the cabinet and the speaker and if the amp dies, you can replace with a comparable plate amp, or dive with an external power amp. Although, I do have great things to say about Velodyne's amps - I have 4 Velodyne subs that I bought used that are all around 20 years and they have no issues...yet!
  15. I don't know if this is really a "subwoofer", I would call it more of a woofer when it only digs down to 38hz. But I'm sure it will be bought by someone looking for the nostalgia factor.
  16. There's a scratched up one in Illinois for $250 on Marketplace. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1005737610466636/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A8ce21fb8-50eb-4e9a-9db1-37ed06876621
  17. I remember hearing one of those when they came out! Impressive back in the day! But, for the price they are asking for a 20 year old sub, there are many better options out there... especially used.
  18.
