  1. Well, just when I thought my problem was too complicated and unsolvable, my klipsch system went ahead and corrected itself without warning. Now all my speakers work 100%. Kinda weird if you ask me! Mitch
  2. I've had my v.2-400's for 4 years, and this is the first problem I've had with them... Yesterday I noticed my front right speaker was almost completely out (by putting my ear up to the speaker at loud volume, I could faintly hear music.) So I swapped my front right and rear right speakers to see if it was the actual speaker that was damaged...nope, it seemed that whichever speaker was plugged into the front right position would only play very low volumes. Ok, well could it be the wire? I took the wire that I normally use for my front RIGHT speaker and swapped it on the back of the amp to the front LEFT channel. In turn I switched the original front LEFT wire to the front RIGHT channel. After that fact, I noticed that it was now the speaker in the front LEFT position (plugged into the front right channel) that was having the problem. Ok, so its not the speaker thats damaged, and its not the wire thats damaged. Whatever I plug into the front RIGHT channel on the back of the amp has problems. What does this mean? I have tried wiggling the wires to make sure the connection is solid...to no avail. Can the connection on the back of the amp go bad all of the sudden? What should I do?? Confused klipsch owner, Mitch
  3. Hehe, I just got an email "someone has replied to your topic" This was ages ago! Oh well, in conclusion, it turns out that the controller card I had did not like my motherboard one bit, so I just said screw it. I never use the zip anyways because my burner can do the job much better. I would also like to add that I am STILL using the same set of v2-400 speakers I bought back in '99, and they still ROCK! Screw diamonds...a speaker means forever. Take it easy guys. -Mitch

    RAM question...

So yeah, I am thinking of upgrading my mobo. I am looking at the ABIT kg7-raid. It's a great board, with 4 dimm slots, but its only flaw is that if you wish to use all 4 dimm slots, you must purchase 'registered' ram, vs unbuffered. Does anyone know how much of a difference there is between registered and unbuffered, in terms of speed, reliability, etc?
  5. Do you have another video card lying around that you could pop in? That would be the easiest way to troubleshoot in my opinion. If that turns out ok, and you had another sound card lying around, you could pop that in. I have no experience with PowerDVD 4.0. I am running 3.0 and it works fine. Good luck.
  6. I am specifically looking at the Canon Powershot s300...the cheapest I can find it right now is around $375. It sounds like the microdrive would be a good option, I just haven't researched enough to know which camera's accept it. I may just end up going with 128 megs of brand name memory, whether it be Crucial or Kingston. If there are any other digital cameras in that price range that you think I should consider, please let me know. Thanks for the help guys.
  7. I am thinking about buying a digital camera, and the one I am looking at accepts Compact Flash Type I memory. I have always gone with Crucial Technologies (division of Micron) when buying ram for my computer, and was wondering if this would be a good place to get Compact Flash memory as well. Any good brand names out there that I should consider for this camera?
  8. Ok, I understand now. I had been told previously that the KSW line of subs was not self-powered.
  9. I am a bit confused about getting enough power to the sub in a general home audio system. Let me use the quintet microsystem to explore my question. The satellites can handle 100 watts each, while the sub handles 225. Well...lets say I go out and buy a quality home theater reciever, say 100 watts x 5. Well, this wattage would match up with the sattelites perfectly, but it seems to me that the sub could not display its full potential with only 100 watts. In a scenario like this, do you buy a separate amp for your sub...or are there recievers out there that are 100 watts x 4, plus 225 x 1?
  10. Yeah, I understand that I may only need a 2 speaker setup for strictly music purposes, but I would like to have a surround feel to the room. Lets just say I go with 2 pair of SB-1's. What would be the best way to mount these in ceiling corners?
  11. I am looking to install a hi-fi speaker system in my living room. I wouldn't go anywhere but klipsch for this solution, so I am currently looking at the Quintets, and the system 6...and possibly even the promdia 5.1's. I am not looking for a system to fit with a home entertainment system. I have no TV, dvd player, etc. Just a nice cd player. From what I have heard, the system 6 is most likely what I need to fill a living room properly with abundant sound. But I am curious about the speakers in the system 6. There seems to be speakers designated for fronts, and rears. Well, I don't need these, because I won't be watching movies. I simply want equal sound from all speakers. If I had the system 6 divided into the 4 ceiling corners of the room, would the "rear" speakers sound different than the "front" speakers while simply playing a cd? The rears seemed to have a different shape, vs the quintets which appear identical. Also, in the specifications of this website, it lists, under the sub, AMPLIFIER: Class A/B discrete MOSFET outputs AMPLIFIER POWER: 225 watts dynamic power for both the quintets and the system 6. Does this imply that there is a built in amplifier on the sub for these systems? If not, I would need to purchase a reviever, where as with the promedia 5.1's, there is already a nice, 500 watt rms amp. So I am stuck between these 3 systems. Help is greatfully appreciated.
  12. Sounds good. I have looked at that Antec 400W...I am also looking at a Sparkle 400W. Which do you think I should choose?
  13. Well, do you really think I need that many watts? 431 is pretty high, especially 650.
  14. I was thinking about upgrading to an AMD 1.4ghz/266 processor, and I was wondering if I need a power supply that is rated at more than 300W. Right now, I am running a P3 700mhz, on a 300W power supply. I have found 350 and 400W power supplies on the internet. So I guess my first question is...do I need something of that caliber, and secondly, what brand should i get, or what certifications am i looking for?
  15. Well, thanks guys for all the helpful posts. I finally ended up getting a Radeon 64mb ddr vivo. Agreed that the 32meg version is the best value, but I guess I feel a little better with the extra ram under my belt. As for the matrox g450, I was looking for a tad bit more performance in 3d, and the radeon was just that. I plan on doing alot of work in photoshop, premiere, and after affects, and I believe this card will work great, especially with its vivo. A great buy all in all.
