  1. Hello, I'm considering the sale of my Hyperion MKII which I purchased directly from Sound Smith in June 2021. It has less than 200 actual hours of use and I'm hoping to sell it to someone that will be able to appreciate it more than I have had time to. I have the original box and booklet, asking $7499. Happy to use escrow.com or similar. Thanks!
  2. Looking for a pair of ALK Extreme Slope crossovers; ES500 and ES5800. It doesn't have to be both; if you have only the ES500 or ES5800 I'd be open to that as well.
  3. I'm hearing that most people just put them on top of their existing cabinets which makes sense. It kinda feels like I just bought a very expensive bass bin if the K400 is so bad and the tweeters DaveA produces are so much better.
  4. Thanks all. Can anyone point me toward a how to or FAQ for the Altec 811 -> La Scala (ideally La Scala II) horn swap? I need to decide whether or not I'm going to move to 811s before ordering the crossover network so I'm trying to understand how big of a deal it is.
  5. You mention improvement in the low end; do these increase the low frequency output? I don't have a lot of space for a sub, so if low end output could be increased with a new network that would be great.
  6. Interesting. This sounds like the ultimate La Scala. Since you said "I'm done!" is it safe to say you agree or is there more to do?
  7. I've read that the La Scala IIs have an improved crossover network when compared to the original design. That being the case, does any one know if the ALK Extreme Slope kit would still be a worthwhile upgrade?
  8. Ahh, that's too bad. Oh well, black is fine for now and maybe I'll have someone do something custom in the future.
  9. Thanks, I suppose I'll find out soon enough. I actually just want to swap them for AL5 grills if I can find some, as I like the look a bit more.
  10. I've just purchased the La Scala II's I had mentioned earlier in the thread and look forward to actually receiving them. The horn-loaded bass was the primary factor, along with learning that I can drop a Tuba sub just about anywhere if needed. Thanks again to everyone for your input, I'm excited to join the Kilpsch club One final quick question; does anyone know if the grills on the high section of the IIs come off easily? Are they just attached by magnets?
  11. Thanks for this. I'm just going to need to hear them, no amount of my typing away on this forum will compensate for that
  12. I have not given up, but they are not local to me. I just know me, and I'm kinda a bass guy. I've been lusting after La Scalas for a couple years now, but, even with all of the magic I'm certain they will provide, if they lack low end I know I'm going to be wanting more. That being said, this location really would not lend itself to a folded horn sub, and I don't want to run a conventional one. Price is not a factor, I'm just trying to choose what's best for my room and listening preferences. The slope does not start until 49", so I could easily nestle the Cornwalls (or La Scalas; anything other than the Klipschorns) into the corners and have ~8 ft or so between them.
  13. Thanks. There's a dealer close to me that has Cornwall IVs but the closest dealer with LaScalas is a 3 hour drive. That's not out of the question, but if anyone is closer by that would certainly be great
  14. I'm leaning toward the Cornwall IV at this point just to keep the room less cluttered. I know they are nearly as efficient as the La Scalas, but should I be concerned about the MC225 only being 25wpc? I've seen some posts saying that once you start asking your amp to do heavier bass duty that things get muddy and more power would be better.
  15. I'm about an hour north of Seattle. Dealer recommendations would be welcome.
  16. La Scalas in the corners was my original thinking, but I know the the Tuba really benefits from corner placement so I'm worried I won't have a good place for it. At the peak, the ceiling here is 10.5' high. From the window to the back of the space is 22'. This is actually an open bonus space over a three car garage so it's pretty large. Yeah, I would go with the IVs if I decided on Corns. This is a great community, thanks so much for all the responses.
  17. Thanks for all the replies so far everyone. I just found some La Scala II's at a reasonable price. If I were to run a THSPUD or TubaHT, could it function as the "table" for the components? The idea of rattling tube gear does not sound good to me, however maybe horn loaded subs act differently.
  18. Yeah, I suppose I should mention the room layout is not what it will be after the speakers are in place
  19. I'm trying to determine which of the La Scalas, Cornwalls, or Klipschorns would be best for my room. Amplification is a McIntosh MC225 with MX110 preamp. Listening preferences are mostly older rock on vinyl (Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Led Zeppelin) but also more nuanced acoustic stuff (Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, James Taylor). If you refer to the photo, the components will live underneath that window, and that wall is about 15' wide. It seems like that's probably too short for Klipschorns, especially since the ceiling slopes down to 49". So close, but too low for the KHs to fit snug into the corners. I've been thinking La Scala's for awhile now, but after reading a bit more, it sounds like I should also consider the Cornwalls. I don't have any plans for a subwoofer in this space, and the lower 34hz response of the Cornwalls may actually be a better fit. I'm posting here as I'm new to placement of the classic Klipsch series and hoping for some advice. Is this wall too short for all of these options?
