Shoe..... My puppie was amazing. He has never blinked at any dvd, any noise level, until the fire breathing dragon effect. He took ran over to me, and hid between my legs and the couch. He was shaking like a leave and very much NOT a happy camper. After the third time, I found him 3 floors up, hiding under my bed.

I did not have these buff marks on my units, and I checked based upon your post. With regards to serial numbers, mine are not sequential, but not separated by much. I think this wouldn't matter unless the units were produced say weeks or months apart from each other... My poor puppie get scared to death in Reign of Fire, unlike any prior dvd. And that's without a subwoofer still. I can't imagine the effect if I actually had a RSW-15...

When I bought my RF-7's, the very experienced older dude (ex biker type, worked in the recording industry for many years) told me that when the RB's came out, a lot of the studio engineers were so impressed that it was their first choice to replace their home speakers. Thanks everyone! I went the radio shack recoton unit route. A couple of observations: 1) Overall, seems to work acceptably. My system is in my home theatre in the basement, and my remote is upstairs in the master bedroom- so that's 2 floors above the basement. 2) I have noticed that the basement receiver/ir transmitter has it's led blinking almost continuously, but at a much reduced output level. This could be it picking up those 418mhz random signals, but it is intriguing that the output level is very low as compared to when the remote unit talks to it- then the led is very brightly lit. I don't seem to have any side effects with unwanted system changes. 3) I have noticed that some remote control features work perfectly, while others may require several attempts. Channel, Volume seem to work great. Setup, actual cable numbers etc seems to be less than perfect. I also need a remote unit in my main floor living room, and am wondering what happens if I get a second receiver/transmitter pair, and simply use the same basement base station. m00n, your setup is so close to what I almost went to it's scary. I almost bought the 520, and have used H/K for almost 25 years now. Finally didn't go that route because there just hasn't been enough time between when they started screwing up on quality etc and now for me to go the 520. Got a once-in-a-lifetime deal on the Integra that seal the fate of getting a 520. Our DVD are not exactly the same, but close. Tv is Samsung 29" non flat, circa 1991. I haven't yet down the surrounds or sub, due to dollar per month spreading. Pisses me off that to get the cherry I have to take a sub that is way more than more space needs. There are several ways to look at this. 1) Protectnig your equipment. Usually power conditioners have signficant protection against voltage spikes. Although all electronics is made to take some abuse from the 120V, there are limits. Brownouts followed by overshoots as power comes back can exceed the tolerances of electronics. If it's a toaster or microwave, well, that's life. If it's your $2000 amp or $3000 tv, that's painful. 2) The other issue is filtering of excessive frequencies/noise. I have some halogen indirect wall lighting that sometimes places high frequency noise on the AC. In a el-cheapo clock radio and older amp, you can clearly hear it through the speakers. Turn off the lights, it goes away. Thus it could make it through your higher quality amp to- depending on design etc. Best way to tell if this might be a benefit is to switch your audio input to a non-existant change (and not let it go back to last known good), then crank up the amp to the limit. You will likely hear some amp noise, and maybe a wee cross talk, but there should be no constant significant noise. If you do hear something, the higher the pitch, the more likely it's something like a blender, halogen, etc. In any case, interrupt the significance by considering just how much you have cranked the amp. Power conditioning may or may not have filters to limit any noise to a vary narrow range. In general, I'd rate the protection issue as being more likely a reason to go the conditioner route. I actually considered placing a inline conditioner to the feed into the subpanel that I installed when I built my home theatre basement. I didn't do this, yet, as the price tag was a not something I wanted to deal with today, and can always implement a bit later. Sorry, but sometimes I am bad with titles of audio stuff. BTW, got the Who at Albert Hall. Damn those British make it sound so easy. Why the hang are 99% of the North American Live Concert recordings no better than watching it on CBS. The Who's voices aren't holding up all that well with age, but not bad still. Way better than the Moody Blues. Try Phil Collins Footloose in Paris (or similar title). Pretty good, and he is weathering quite well. Thanks again to everyone. Thanks STL. I too could sit down and replicate what they do- I just don't have the time to tinker these days. The cost point is ridiculous, and since my amp has an IR in anyway (separate from the C Bus stuff), I may just try that route some day. The key is to obtain the ir receiver and ensure that it can drive the signal back over an approximate 50' distance without amplification. If I can get something that does that, then I need only worry about merging 2 separate IR receivers to one input on the receiver. Then later on figure out how to split that final receiver end into multiple ir transmitters. Again, drive will be the issue. Can you post back how you did this, and the problems you encountered? The silicon/passive components shouldn't be hard to obtain, even as samples. So, it's coming down to the wisdom you build.... He means that a wired IR system would transmit the received commands over wire to the receiver etc with much less chance of noise problems than if the same signals were sent back to the amp via an RF connection. Although I had spent some time listening in store, and much more time reading here and elsewhere, I still invested in the RF/C 7's with more than just a bit of trepidation. After 30 days, I am very please with how much better than the older horn designs these speakers sound. I recently spent an entire night listening to, over and over again, the EAGLES reunion concert DVD. Holy S****. I've been to their concerts (years ago), and also been able to listen to tracks in the studio. This dvd really brings out the RF/C 7's. Any suggestions for other MUSIC DVDs? I tried the Moody Blues at Red Rock. Sigh. Some singers voices do NOT hold up over time. Interesting discourse. One other possible side effect of not bi-wiring and to me, one that is much more likely: When you attempt to send a signal down a wire, your ability to transmit the shape of that signal is directly related to the ability of that wire to carry those electrons as sent. Since no wire is a perfect conductor, then the amount of stress placed by the electrons on the conductance of the wire can affect or smudge the actual image of the signal being carried- peaks and valleys for the various frequencies would not be as sharp as if I simply carried say a sine wave. Now, if I am really stressing the wire by carrying alot of high energy/high power signals, then the more subtle signals can have their crispness reduced. Thus if I somehow split the signals and send the very high energy/power signals down one wire, and the more subtle signals down another, and those wires actually route to separate speakers, then the clarity of the arriving signals should be noticably improved. To prove any of these points, we all should start investing in signal generators and analyzers- or at least fine a rental shop that carries them. What I would do, rather than drill the mounting holes into the RS3's, is make a simple pine or oak holder that tightly fits the rs3 footprint. Then screw the mounting bracket either directly into the bottom of this tray, or add a back piece and screw into that. You can stain or paint the exposed would so that it complements the RS3s. Thanks AVMAN. I've used DLP's before and generally like them. The only thing is that the bulb costs are outrageous, and if this is your only video display capability, the lifetime means less than a years use per bulb- assuming no use until 6-11pm weekdays/weekends. Anymore often than that, and the bulbs won't last 9 months. That's painful! Well, I just took 3/4 of the plunge, and bought the RF/RC 7's. I was just wondering how likely it is that I will miss the subwoofer for music? Obviously, DVD Movies often have tracks containing LFE's, but am I right in thinking that there would be a lot less likelihood in music?
