    Overkill?

I have heard these speakers before, and honestly, they do sound quite amazing. The whole room comes alive, especially with the upper range. That many drivers are gonna be able to move some serious air... it's just physics. The downside is that they are very inefficient. Probably need 500 watt/ channel or so for them to sound decent. They are also way too much money for most of us. I think money is better spent on the brand second only to Bose... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  2. $1000 will not even get you close to a McIntosh. Great equip. though.
  3. DwK, It really makes no difference what a speaker is rated to handle. The important thing is that the power you are giving it is CLEAN power. You will find that any Klipsch speaker can handle 2, 3, 4, 5 or more times as much continous power than it is rated for. You run into problems when you start feeding any speaker distortion. That will fry it quicker than anything. So, stay away from running the amp to its limit. I would rather have a 500 watt / channel amp running a pair of Heresy's than a 25 watt, and have to worry about the amp clipping. Although, my ears might think differently. Live long and prosper!Text ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  4. Yes, the RS-3's will accept banana plugs. That is probably your best bet if they sit a few inches off the wall. Good luck, and have fun!
  5. I must agree with you Samuel. Why would Klipsch go with Monster internally if it did not somehow benefit the sound quality. I know there are also marketing reasons for the move, but that can't be the only reason. I would be intersted in modifying my RF-3's as well, if it can be done without much of a hassle. Hey Bob G... Any input here? ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  6. Welcome Dutch! I think that the SC-1 is today's equivalent, but the KV-2 & KV-3 were the centers that were made to match the 3.5's (if memory serves that is). As for rear, I am afraid I will not be of much help. If you are interested in a KV-2 or 3, check out e-bay, they pop up there periodically. Hope that helps. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  7. I just used the bare wire approach. I know it would be better to use spades or banana plugs, but seeing as though you don't have much room to get them wired and hung on the wall, it was the best solution for me. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  8. Here is my 2 cents. The marketplace will decide if the new RF-7's are Klipsch's future. If they don't sell, perhaps they will go back to the drawing board or, re-introduce the Legends. If they are as good as they say they are... we will be the ones to reap the benefits. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  9. Welcome, I don't know that you will have the speakers that THX is truly intended for. Many THX speaker systems have a specific driver "array", and have to be placed in certain positions. I don't believe ceiling speakers are even part of the THX equation. This is all true of couse, unless Lucas has changed some of his requirements. Another part of THX is the standard for elecronics and the standards for the film sound, and picture. These are things that you will be able to take advantage of, by having a THX certified receiver and by renting, or buying movies with the THX logo. All this aside... I have listened to "THX certified" home theater speaker systems and can honestly tell you that you will have an outstanding speaker system (??? center & surrounds). In most cases yours will sound as good, or better than anything at almost any price level... THX, or not.
  10. Now I know why the Brits lost the Revolutionary War. After all, anyone who wears a red coat in the middle of battle, has to have been drinking a little more than tea and crumpets. No wonder the Germans pummeled them with bombs for years. "Second to blose?"... This review blows! Like magnaman said... take em' out of the box! ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  11. My opinion on front effects would be to stick with the Heritage line. Heresy's would give you the efficiency, and the same tonal characteritics of the LaScalas and Chourus II's. As for the sub, I love the KSW-12, but for you, I think the KSW-15 would work best. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  12. Please be a little more specific as to the model #'s of your speakers and sub. Klipsch has produced many different models over the years. We will be able to help you a little more if we know the specifics. Thanks.
  13. You may also want to try to find a used KV-3, also a good match for the KG 4.2's. The KG-2.2V is a nice one though, and probably the "best" match.
  14. I have both the KSW-10 & KSW-12. I can tell you that the 10 does a pretty good job with some older Klipsch satellites (Rebel Series)that I have in another room. The 12 however, is quite a step up as far as low end bass, plus it plays louder. I can't speak to the KSW-15, sorry. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  15. Jim, I see why Klipsch is a leader. You know the competition better than the competition knows you. Stay on top of it. If my calculations are right, I could have a pair of K-Horns in every room of my home for the price of one pair of B&W Nauts. I KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO! ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  16. I have gone back and forth with mine, and have decided that for dialogue, small is the better setting. It sounds a little more clear in the vocal range. On the other hand, if it is an action sequence with more bass output, the large setting sounds a little better. With that in mind, I change my settings based on the type of movie I am watching. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  17. I personnally like the Denon. I used to sell Yamaha, Marantz and others, several years ago. Overall, I think the Denon is the most musical, accurate, no-nonsenese of the bunch. It makes my RF-3's "SING". ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  18. BOA 12, I took the cover off and guess what... an empty hole, a view to the circuit panel inside. These companies need to get with the late 20th, and now the 21st century. I think I'll put my DD dish up early. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  19. LOSERS! I have a Motorolla cable box that has a space on the back for a digital output, but there is a plate screwed over top of it. I just moved to this area, and need a new roof, so I was putting off installing my DirecTv, which does have DD, Thank you! ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  20. On the bottom base of the speakers there should be metal feet. I would suggest removing those feet and putting threaded spikes there (might have to do a little drilling). I think that spikes made out of a good grade steel, or stailess steel will probably work fine. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  21. The RS-3's will give you a lot more depth and frequency range than the ss-1's, but they will not match very well to the SC-1. If you go with the RS-3's, you will probably want to upgrade to the RC-3 at some point, IMHO that is. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  22. Now that the new additions to the Reference series have dawned, which have Monster internal wiring -- will it be possible to get a wiring "package" to replace the internal wiring on the RF-3's, RS-3's & RC-3 ???? ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW-12: subwoofer Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  23. LatinaGod, Is this receiver for HT or just stereo. In any case, try the Denons, I have had Yammies, Onkyo, and others. I find the Denons sound more natural with the Klipsch. Very clean... we like clean. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW10 X 2 : subwoofers Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
  24. You probably want to have them as far away from the rear wall as possible. Rear firing tweeters are similar to a bi-pole design. They are supposed to radiate the sound around the speaker and give you more of a "sweet spot". This should give you more open imaging. Try 1 - 2 feet from the rear wall, and adjust from there. Good luck.
  25. I believe that Yamaha still makes an integrated amp, or two. Check them out. They sound good and are reasonably priced. ------------------ RF-3's : mains RC-3 : center RS-3's : surrounds KSW10 X 2 : subwoofers Receiver: Denon 2801 DVD: Panasonic DVD-A120 CD: Yamaha CDC-765 Cables: Tributaries Sat Receiver: Hughes Direct-TV DD5.1
