  1. I'd also consider Watco Tung Oil - it's more of a finish than a cleaner/restorer. It's more expensive but I think it's a great choice. Here are my old 75 Heresys (Walnut) with tung oil.
  2. You only need 0000 steel wool and then oil them. The veneer isn't that thick so the sand paper is too abrasive.
  3. Those are not k-24 woofers, they are k-22 as shown in your picture. As 001 said, the woofers have alnico magnets - they're wonderful sounding woofers. Your speakers are missing their labels from the back, but since the backs and motorboards are not painted black, they're most likely made from birch plywood (someone stained them at some point as they would have left the factory raw). The question is whether they are Decorator models or not. Some better pics of the tops and the front corner edges would help confirm.
  4. What year are the Khorns and what are the other drivers? Maybe some pics?
  5. yep -- there is a big difference in price. feel free to give the rejuvenating oil a go and see what you think. tung oil is more of a "finish" while the rejuvenating oil is more for "restoring".
  6. I've used Watco Tung Oil on Heresys, Chorus, and Cornwalls -- always with outstanding results. Use some 0000 steel wool over the entire cabinet and then clean off. Put on two coats of the Tung Oil. Tung Oil is clear and after two coats will look a bit glossy. If you don't like that, you can get them back to satin with a light rubbing with the steel wool.
  7. there's no doubt the a-s1200/2200/3200 series amplifiers have been a successful match with klipsch speakers for many people. i agree with henry that if you want to step it up a notch, the pass int-25 would be a good choice.
  8. congratulations! beautiful amps! can't wait to hear more of your impressions.
  9. Call Klipsch parts or here: https://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/klipsch-k55v-heresey-i-mid-127161-diaphragm/
  10. the second "5" in your serial number is most likely an "S" -- the "S" indicates 1978 (as 001 mentioned)
  11. the k77m tweeter has better specs, i.e. better high frequency extension. for me personally, i think the alnico k-77 with the round magnet sounds better -- there's something about alnico magnets that i like.
  12. amps don't blow speakers -- people blow speakers by turning it up too much. the power rating is the maximum output -- you don't have to use it all (no one does on most amps).
  13. those cabinets are not in bad shape at all! have some fun with them. won't be difficult at all and the results will be fantastic. the h1s with the alnico drivers are magic -- i found that on the floor (with risers) and close to the wall (as designed) provided plenty of bass (although maybe not enough for double bass . . . )
  14. Agreed -- that's something that has been heavily "personalized" -- the drivers are all klipsch drivers but the cabinet came from somewhere else.
  15. @Cwall4me -- as has been mentioned, the only thing to consider updating on H1s is the capacitors. If they're from the 70s, then they'll have paper in oil capacitors in metal cans. If those are not leaking you should be good to go -- listen away and enjoy. If they're leaking or you aren't pleased with how they sound, they you can change the capacitors -- there's no need to replace anything else. They're super easy to replace if you've ever used a soldering iron before! If they're original, they've likely got alnico K-22 woofers and alnico K-77 (round) tweeters (they'll almost certainly have the K-55-V alnico mids). You'll be getting a special combination of drivers. If you keep them on the floor, close to the wall, and toed in so they they cross right in front of the listening position, they should sound absolutely awesome. You'll be tempted to make alternations (from internet chat) to these gems. Don't succumb to the temptation -- changes aren't necessarily better!
  16. the stamps they are talking are on the back of the speaker along the top lip, above the terminal strip where you connect the speaker wire. (in the pics of the backs, i can't see the stamps -- not close enough shot). there may be other stamps along the back lips, but the ones above the terminal strip will be the serial number. as was mentioned, they're definitely cornwall 1s. since you can see the wood seams across the top, they are/were raw birch. you wouldn't be able to see that seam if they were oak or walnut. you made the right choice with the k33 woofers.
  17. Excellent suggestion - great performance for the dollars, particularly used.
  18. @haydukej and @edzu1234 -- the backs actually aren't flipped -- they came that way in the 80s. i have some heresys that are the same year (1984) and the posts and the tags are in the same locations.
  19. those are certainly very pretty -- note that the grilles were most likely added later as the decorator models with the flat front like yours didn't come with them. your grilles don't have the badges on them, but i see they are on the cabinets (typically decorators didn't have badges on the cabinets). the "R" means they were built in 1977 and are heresys, not h-700s. regarding value, it certainly will depend on your market. i recently sold some mint '75 heresys with oiled walnut finish for $750. raw birch doesn't go for as much and the decorators are usually a bit less than the "regular" heresys. so i think you should be very happy if you can get $600 or more for those. not sure if the documentation (which is pretty unusual for someone to have) adds value or not.
  20. I'm a fan of the alnico K-77s - they have a sweetness that just sounds "right".
  21. not sure if i've posted this, so will do at the risk of repeating . . .
  22. i like the sound of el84 tubes, too -- very full sound and a surprising amount of bass from a skinny little tube!
  23. i saw the SET monoblocks in your signature -- just assumed 300b amp -- my bad. so the new amp is to use with your la scalas? i thought you really liked the amp you have.
  24. an el84-based amp? for a second system or to rotate in with the 300b monoblocks? very nice . . . .
