  1. Michael Crites is a great guy. Assured me the CF2’s XO is essentially the same even given the different cap. Slapped the CF2 XO and tweeter/ horn in the KV4 and it’s jamming, with the crack on top to remind me of this aggravating journey.
  2. Probably right. People probably see it and just think eh, more Epic folk bloviating. lol
  3. The KV4’s was sadly damaged, yes. Different caps entirely. Not even sure if it’s safe to use or not? One out of the KV4 is 150v 33MFD. Out of the CF2 is 100v 20MFD.
  4. It’s just strange as there’s a CF2 XO on eBay with the orange cap. So either it’s from a KV4 and the owner didn’t know that and just read “Epic CF2” on the board, or it’s indeed from a ‘96 (perhaps?) CF2. Also of note is: it seems the differing metal color and maybe lack of snout screen of K-64s possibly varied just due to year. I sourced a set of drivers pulled from CF2s and they’re silver backed with ‘96 date on them, with snout screens. This dark colored CF2 K-64 I have without snout screen is from ‘95.
  5. Anyone have an opinion on this though? 🙂
  6. Apologies. Yep. Busted KV4 horn next to CF2 horn (identical). Injured (snapped + post) KV4 driver with silver back and screen in snout, next to CF2 driver with dark back (army green) and no snout screen. Not 100%, but in my search to repair the KV4 I found the CF1 to not be compatible, atleast not the horn. And the CF1’s 1” cd seems to be unique. I believe the CF3&4 used K-63 (bigger or stronger magnet), and the CF2 & KV4 used K-64, all 2”. The 63 and 64’s diaphragm assembly are the same, and a 64 can be fitted inside a 63 for an exact replacement in case of a blown tweeter. Obviously great as this broadens one’s options.
  7. Reviving this to hopefully add some more context. I’m in the midst of fixing a KV4 and found many similarities to the CF2. KV4 and CF2 both use K-64-KN but in varying metal colors and with or without screen. I’m curious if there’s ANY difference here other than aesthetics. Same horn. Same crossover. KV4’s is actually marked “Epic CF2” on its board. It seems one capacitor varied on the board from one year to another, in my case, ‘95 to ‘96. Is there any sonic difference here or was it simply using another cap to serve the same purpose? @crunchman12001
  8. Curious. KV4 having a 2” tweeter is the biggest differentiator I believe. As I’m finding out, KV4 and CF2 have quite a few things in common. Same horn, seemingly identical K-64-KN drivers (with my example, the back metal are different colors and one has a screen, another doesn’t), and the XOs are the same save for one cap’s size and color on the board varying by years ‘95 and ‘96 (KV4’s board is marked Epic CF2). I’m going to update another epic driver thread with this info for more context, and hope it creates more answers than questions.
  9. Looking at possibly just swapping out the KV4’s damaged crossover for another and eventually sending it for repair. It’s clearly marked as an Epic CF2 XO, but one capacitor on the board varied from ‘95 to ‘96 it looks. The only difference is on mine, one cap is short, fat and orange. On another, it’s tall, slim and purple, also marked C1 on the board. Would these still sonically be the same?
  10. It’s to replace the UPS-demolished horn of my KV4.
  11. Owner sent me some pics. I’ll post here. Of course crooked. They were upright when saved from email but site loves flipping pics around.

  13. That’s hilarious. I literally just found and messaged this guy. You and I must’ve seen at the same time. I’m sure it’s gone with the wind, being a year old listing but we’ll see!
  14. Any CF2 owners able to measure their horn height and length by chance? 10” x 6 3/4” hopefully?
  15. Yeah ultimately if I can source this horn and if it’s indeed the same size as the CF2, I might be in luck. In the end the only thing that would remain to remind of the travesty is that crack on the top of the bezel. I found the little chip off the corner and can glue it back on to look pretty seamless.
  16. 2in. The driver’s positive post is damaged but confirmed functional. I believe a dollop of solder reconnecting the post and spade simultaneously would do the trick. Further inspection revealed XO damage from the heavy driver flying around inside. The little wire I’m sure was connected to that black module. And some of the sheathing was smashed open on several of the wires. This could maybe be fixed by Crites perhaps. There also is a CF2 XO for sale that is a direct replacement. Correct me if I’m wrong as maybe the tuning was different? They both look identical and the KV4 XO actually says Epic CF2 on it. Then there’s the actual horn—destroyed. This would have to be outright replaced as it’s beyond repair. Let’s not forget the aesthetic slap to the face of the enclosure itself.
  17. Yes of course. Thanks for that. Perturbed over here... ha 10” L x “6 3/4” W
  18. Hoping you guys can help out on an issue here... So, upon receiving my much-anticipated KV4 from UPS, I found they damaged it. The horn is cracked and the diaphragm/ tweeter is cracked off the horn and loose in the cabinet. I've already started a claim but I'm already preparing for a garbage outcome. From the research I did, these Tractrix horns are in quite a few speakers, but vary in detail and size. The KV4 has an opening with a mesh grille proud of the tweeter as found in the CF line. KLF 10 and 20 have a type of directional "reticle" if you will, built in. KLF 30 a clear hole with no mesh, but I'm thinking the KLF 30's is too big. So I'm thinking for a direct replacement it'd have to be from possibly a CF1 or CF2, or obviously from another KV4. Or... this same size horn with an open hole and re-using the mesh? Any help or leads is much appreciated...
  19. Whoops, glazed over that fact simply reading others calling them the IIs. Carry on...
  20. I wanna say those Chorus IIs need some more space away from the wall too, if I remember correctly. My uncle has a mint pair bought new and I believe he said that about their placement. At any rate, they’re too, awesome loudspeakers.
  21. Can grab a few of these from your local hardware store too if you don’t wanna do any cutting. Prop your Epics up in style with decorative, pre-cut wood trim corners! 😜
  22. Excellent to hear. I owe @wvu80a beer for calling out a rattle issue. At high volume on some low hz stuff, I was getting a slight rattle sound out of 1 woofer. He said to someone else, maybe you, that it could be a wayward dust cap. Low and behind upon close inspection, the bottom left portion of the dust cap is separating from the woofer. When I find some time I’ll look up the best adhesive and methodology to use and go about fixing that.
  23. Welcome to the club brotha. You’re gonna love it.
  24. Ugh, ain’t that the brakes? Granted I think @bpplaysguitarended up with the best of both. This guy he bought it from who’s local to me, seems to have a lot of desirable stuff in crazy mint condition. If there was no sentimental value attached to these CF4s I have in particular, I would’ve bought that guy’s and sold mine a week ago. The black satin grew on me quickly and they would’ve been an immediate aesthetic upgrade with the spread in cost being less than or equal to a refinish of mine. My best balance is probably either being content with my ~6.5-7/10 condition of mine (which I pretty much am) or having them refinished. In my next home which will be bigger, I’ll probably turn into a CF4 predator, owning an example in every Klipsch color 🤪
  25. Sorry for no input on your current issue. I’m contending with a purely aesthetic issue myself and have already harassed a member in private about it lol
