  1. Thanks! Yes, it is strange. I was kinda bummed when we rearranged everything and found this out. Still haven't tracked down the source, though it is not related to my home's power, at least as far as I can tell. I killed the power at the breaker and was still getting this interference. I live in an attached rowhouse so it might be something coming from a neighbor. Anyway, since it doesn't really happen when I'm playing music it is not a huge deal, as long as I don't have to listen to it when I'm working.
  2. Been lurking forever but finally have a question in need of an answer... In a recent re-arrangement of my listening space, my Fortes started picking up some type of interference. It's kind of like a transformer hum, and it's coming out of the midrange horns on both speakers. The hum's only present when the system is powered down (it disappears when I apply power via the McIntosh MC30s connected to them). The hum also happens when the speakers are completely unplugged from the system. By shorting the speaker terminals, I have discovered that the hum seems to be most coming from the inductor coils in the crossovers, at least that is my theory. Maybe EM intereference? I have read on these forums that people experience this buzz with their high-sensitivity Klipsch speakers. I can reduce the hum by moving the speakers out of whatever field is affecting them, but this is not a workable longterm solution. And the hum doesn't affect listening to these puppies. Shorting the speaker terminals completely kills the hum. My question is: can I short the speaker terminals when these are not in use and will this present any danger of damaging the speakers? I would probably fashion some type of wire with banana plugs at both ends and just plug them into each terminal. That would make it impossible to apply power to them since I'd have to unplug the speakers each time I shorted them. The hum is loud enough that I can hear it 15 feet away. It drives me crazy since I have to work from home in the same room as these!
