  1. Lorenzo, excuse my late answer to your above mentioned question about the right distance of the SM120's horn mouth to the basshorn's front. I've been reading your threat the first time. I'm here not very often. When I installed first my SM120 horns, I placed the horn's mouth that it finished with the front panel of the bass bin. After a while listening i noticed that the kickdrum came twice - one kick out of the bass and one out of the mid horn. So i moved the mid horn back until I heard the kickdrum at the same time out of both speakers. The mid horn's mouth is now 5 cm behind the front panel.
  2. Maybe i passed a discussion about the development of DM's horns and now i spend words, but i assume, DM folded the horn path about the triangular doghouse. Starting like the original Klipschorn but the first expansion is rotated at 90° then back in the corner and at least along the walls out of the corner - a double Z-Profile. With a horn simulation software you can start to build your own prototypes without having the exact plans. But that's more expensive like having the plan Bernd
  3. Dear Frans, Crossoverparts near Belgium, exactly in Germany, are available from www.intertechnik.de or www.lsv-achenbach.de. Probably not Hovland or Solen, but Intertechnik and Mundorf are certainly manufacturers of comparable high quality parts. And by EU-law you can send the parts back until 14 days after receiving them. Bernd
  4. Elimination and reinforcement of bass at different room position is not my biggest problem, because ususally i sit during listening. There is another thing that gets on my nerves. In the frequency range somewhere between 100 to 150 Hz seems to be a strong resonance. When the bass player holds a bass note at this frequency a little bit longer, it booms. Then it sounds like an organ pipe. Anyone else with this problem? Bernd
  5. Rudy 81, You must have had a really big leak. In my home each klipschorn has a leak of about a quarter inch at the front of one side. This is because the corner angle is not perfect 90°. My klipschorns have no rubber seal. And i have no lack of bass, absolutly not. Bernd
  6. Hello D-Man, I used the EM15-300 with the 3x13" opening, when i bought the Klipschorns five years ago. About things like throat opening i had no clue. But maybe that would have been the trick. During this time i never felt, that the bass would punch out the mids and highs. I remember the day, when i screwed in my K-33 and did the first test: My son came out of his room and said "now we have bass". But firing 30 Watts into the Klipschorn Bernd
  7. Hello D-Man, The Kappa 15 is a mid-bass-speaker, see the x-max 1,6 mm. The Kappa 15 LF is the better bass speaker (LF for low frequency). Don't believe the high sensitivity of 103 or 101 db/1W/1m. See the following page for the sensitivity versus frequency for Eminence speakers: http://editweb.iglou.com/eminence/eminence/pages/resources02/sensitivity.htm As you can see, your posted sensititivy is reached in a frequency range, one would never use a bass speaker. A bassbin for the Kappa 15 LF would have a volume of 150 liter and 4 bass reflex ports with a diameter of 11 cm and a length of 20 cm and would so tuned at about 45 Hz. Another interesting design used for semi-pro applications can you find here: http://www.aw-audio.kaigerner.de/subs/15arls.html But both speakers are bass speakers, not recommended for sub bass applications. I wouldn't use none of these speakers in the klipschorn. My experience with the Eminence EM 15-300, the precedessor of the Kappa 15, in my klipschorns was really bad - very bass shy. But i had the 8 Ohm version. After i changed them against the K-33, i realized what klipschorns can sound really. Bernd
  8. That's right. The SM-120A is made of polymer. This can swell up when it comes in contact with solvents or lacquer. The other thing is adhesion of the lacquer and the possibility of forming tears. Each sort of polymer behaves different in that. When the polymer is unknown, always do a test. Bernd
  9. As Tom Brennan said, these are constant directivity horns from EV. They are from the HR-series, which appeared later as the SM-120 horn. If you want a spec sheet, give me a note. Bernd
  10. "The worse thing in the heritage line is the stock midrange horn. IMHO...." Correct! Bernd
  11. Maron, Did you heard the ST-350 baby cheek in comparison with the K-77 / T-35? Is there a big difference in sound, not only efficiency? Bernd
  12. I have a source for a EV-ST 350. Would it be a good replacement for the K-77? Bernd
  13. @JMON from what i know, these horns are made from a plastic material called ABS (Acryl-Butadien-Styrol). Bernd
  14. @Frans Since i have these horns for more than a year with the modded crossover, i can't exactly remember why these mod is recommendable. I mean, that the tonal balance, the transition from bass to mid, was effected in a positive way?! Try it, the parts are cheap, so why not. @JMON I cannot locate side wall reflections at my listening position. I have a living room 18' x 24' tall, the Klipschorns are in the corners of the short wall, i sit about 10' away from this wall. When i go back, about more than 15' away from the source, the sound becomes worse, somehow blown and washed, probably from room reflections, standings waves and other influences. But i had this phenomen with the K-400 too. Bernd
  15. Frans, nice to hear that you have the same impression of these horns. Today i can answer your first question, if there is a notable difference when they are mounted on a baffle or not: I say no! See my pic with the new top section how they can look. I really recommend the crossover modification, which i received from DJK. I gave you the link in my first contribution in this thread. Bernd
