  1. Thank you. I have a pair of subwoofer speakers without the electronics. I also have a pair of RF3 IIs which are nice, but I'm willing to experiment with them. The RF3 II's need bass. So I was exploring whether I could marry these two. Obviously I'd need an appropriate filter. If normal woofer frequencies are sent through a speaker with greater excursion, will it sound much different than one with less excursion?
  2. I'm asking a question because I don't know the answer. I know that there are woofers and subwoofers with the latter having a lower range. Suppose you have the speakers side by side... A Klipsch 10" woofer and a Klipsch 10" subwoofer. I assume that they're made differently and that they don't differ only by their respective crossovers sending signals to each. If they are different, how so?

I do the work on my own BMW which I paid for in cash while my son has a Honda Accord we bought him that way. On the balance aftermarket part prices for the Honda are roughly 1/2 to 1/3 of what they are for the BMW. I was sent the wrong upper boot (duct) going from the mass air flow sensor to the block, which is a common source of extra air in the system causing lean codes. It was the analogous Mini part, and it was twice what my part was. Yes, they agreed to pay shipping back. Honda thermostat is $8. BMW requires an assembly that at the cheapest runs $25 with most being higher. I've seen similar with control arms and other parts. He absolutely has to consider mileage and big maintenance issues, especially timing belt replacement for many models because that going out will brick an interference engine. I hate seeing kids get behind early.

Man, I don't want to know your details & I'm not fishing for them. One word of advice. I represent a nationwide subprime lender for automobiles. Do NOT go that route if you're considering it. The interest rates are too high. Their dealers have prices the uninitiated should never pay. There's always some additional cost. The extended warranties are a bit*% to collect on. A Mini is a BMW. They're costly to have repaired. My advice -- Save, pay cash for a Honda or Toyota & learn how to fix your car. Let the cost of your repairs be your financing.

Since we're in a Klipsch forum... I've dropped Klipsch woofers into the rear deck of my e46 BMW & figured out how to put other Kilpsch speakersin the doors without cutting metal. The only thing I wish Klipsch made is a 2.75" midrange speaker. This is only the rear speakers before the doors were installed and the head unit really needs to be replaced. It sounds flat to me.
  6. That is great news! The secret to making these car stereo speakers is to carefully remove the casing which will probably separate from the magnet, then remove the magnet. That's not so easy. I ended up getting a metal cutter and putting two lines through the magnet then took a big screwdriver and twisted. One side of the magnet pop off easily. The other side needed some coaxing.
  7. Call me hellbent on modifying my old BMWs car stereo system to use Klipsch speakers. But this is more of a technical question. Here's a 5.25" KV2 Woofer KV-1016-SV. What are the effects on the speaker when the rear magnet is removed? What changes? Sound range? Do ohms change? Etc. If you're curious, with a small amount of non-visible modifications to the car & connection, I've dropped a pair of unmodified K-1078-SB 6" woofers in the back deck. They sound great now but will sound better when I replace the radio. Separately, it looks like Klipsch makes few midrange speakers. Is there that much of a sound range that they don't need the midrange so that they have tweeter / woofer combinations? Or am I simply missing them?
  8. For some time, I've been looking at putting Klipsch speakers of some sort in my BMW 325xi. Find the information necessary to make sure that something has a possibility working is a chore. I wanted to start with the mid-range speakers, and Klipsch doesn't have a lot of those it doesn't seem. But doors, especially on a BMW don't have a lot of room. Depth of the speaker? I ended up asking a couple of different eBay sellers if they would be time enough to measure the distance from plane of the comb to the back. The speakers are running about 2.75" deep, or so I'm told. I then finally ran across a post where someone had investigated it before without taking my door panels off again. http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e46/stereo/jesse/audio_4.html I bought a pair of 5.25" Klipsch Quintet II Satellite Replacement Center Speakers for $40 eBay, and I'm going to try to give them a shot.
  9. In my topic looking for the depth of speakers, I thought to look the patents up since they usually have diagrams. I thought they might have a broader interest here than that post with words like "crossover." Hence this post. Diagrams are found in the image Link at the bottom of the USPTO page. The link below is only a search for patents which were assigned to "Klipsch" since 1976. I did a separate one by inventor & found 4 which Paul Klipsch owned himself after that time. I own a pair of the Klipsch earbuds and was glad to find that they own a number of patents on them, and it's not a bought & branded design. While I feel like I've missed some, I'm not certain of that. Please feel free to comment with others you find. https://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-adv.htm&r=0&f=S&l=50&d=PTXT&RS=(AC%2Fhope+AND+AS%2FAR)&Refine=Refine+Search&Query=AN%2FKlipsch
  10. Thank you for the reply. The fact that you just replied got me thinking. Sometimes that's all I need or sometimes it's dangerous. I'm sure Klipsch has patents on components to speakers since, as I understand, the company's been driven by innovation. I think I'll take a look and see if they have patented speaker assemblies. If there is such a thing then maybe it has a schematic saying the depth. I had occasion to wonder whether or not there was an owner's manual to a shopping cart used by a major hardware store chain. I'd never really thought about it until it tipped (tumped in Arkansas) over & broke both bones above a client's ankle. Sure 'nuff. I started hunting & found one. You interested in any particular speaker if i find schematics?
  11. I know I'm not the first to want Klipsch speakers in my car. I'll worry about the conversion etc. Is there a resource which tells me how deep a speaker is from the plane of the cone to the back of the driver? The width of the speakers is published it seems. I'm trying to avoid simply buying used speakers to figure out how deep they really sit in a cabinet.
  12. I searched the forums first because there's no place better to go for Klipsch than here. Where can I find the dimensions (diameter & depth) / specs of Klipsch speakers across various models and platforms? Ideally I'm looking for (2) 5.25" midrange & (2) 5.25" woofers & (4) 1" tweeters. They could be bookshelf, outdoor, computer, etc. The speakers are coming out of the cabinets. I want Klipsch speakers in my car. While I've had this BMW 3 series, in a way it's a reflection of me. I've learned the numerous repairs as I went. The speakers are next & Klipsch is what I want. Will they sound exactly as intended? No. But I have faith in them & me that my home-state speakers will sound great. I'll worry about the conversion & mounting (although suggestions would be welcome.)
