  1. I kept the speaker and modified it to my satisfaction.
  2. All the batteries are good Peg insists
  3. Yeah I just put a blanket on top of my mid range horn and could feel the difference way less vibration but the 848 is a fiberglass horn and it doesn't take much to get it vibrating. The dynamat on the interior bass cabinet made it stop vibrating 90% which helped the mid range horn too, probably even more than the blanket and the base is way tighter. deeper! which totally shocked me I had no hope even of that happening.
  4. Yeah battery good, 5th meter was the charm, and was checked on a known resistance and was accurate to 0.1 ohm. Drum roll......3.4 ohm dcr. Let that be a lesson to me about all the things i hear, One fellow even told me he worked on a dozen of them and they were all close to 16 ohm! The plate was missing from the back of the woofer,
  5. That is accurate. I've heard a lot of people say something different let that be a lesson to me. my fifth ohm meter was the charm and it read 3.4 ohm DC resistance. And I checked it on a known resistance and it was accurate to 0.1 ohm. The badge on the back of the woofer was missing.
  6. Ok, i Need an accurate ohm meter , have discovered it does that on every driver that I check, now I have a collection of 3 ohm meters that don't work,
  7. That's a great question hanksjim1, maybe you can help me find the answer when I measure the DC resistance of the woofer the digital meter swings rapidly between about two and six ohms. The meter was stable when measuring my eight ohm resistors accurately. All the best.....
  8. Sorry for the late reply I don't get notifications even though I'm signed up for them . I'm 90 miles from LA, 93013. I was trying to take a reading of the DC resistance on the woofer and The meter swings between two and six ohms, i'm not sure what that means maybe somebody could help me out here it's been a long time since I messed with any of this stuff and I forgot, but at my age I forget most everything anyways
  9. 93013, I lined The inner bass cabinet with sound deadening and decoupled the horn with closed cell foam. Tighter, deeper louder bass, cleaner mid, it is amazing how vibration can cause such sonic degradation. This image uploader never works right. jahwind@icloud.com for pics.
  10. I had great results, tighter and was huge for the mid range all that vibration is really bad for it. Also removed the rear brackets from mid, decoupled from cabinet with close cell foam . Image upload here is not working. Email for pictures, jahwind@icloud.com
  11. I was thinking of using dynamat on the outside of the bass bin, anyone ever try that? Cheers
  12. I have a Georgian and it definitely has a 15 W woofer which is extremely articulate and doesn't roll off until 40 HZ. On the evening show on KUSC he played a 1954 symphonic recording, the sound through the ST 70 and Georgian was the most amazing experience. Dijitteral and odd order harmonics were huge steps backwards. my Georgian is in as close to perfect condition as you could ever imagine I strongly suspect it was assembled professionally I found that a Brad nailer had been used. I need to let it go if anybody is interested. 93013 zip.
  13. Long story some tragedy but a lot of joy with the speaker it's like it dropped down out of the time machine it's as close to perfect as you can get I suspect it was built by a professional I see they used a Brad nailer and I believe in the 50s they didn't have electric ones so it was somebody with pneumatic tools. Joints are all perfect. If somebody here would like it I need to pass it on. I paid $850 for it I've never seen one even close to this condition for 30 years. 848HF compound coaxial, 15W, T35, X336. More pics on request. Never let your vinyl go, dijitteral is just that.
