  1. One set of Heathkit SS-1B speakers.  Large and in charge.  Bought with a big lot of stereo gear and thought this group might appreciate these.  The raw colored one I opened up (two partially backed out screws made me curious) and has drivers but nothing hooked up.  Haven’t looked into the others.  Asking $600 as is before I pull out the drivers and junk the cabinets due to size.  Located in Monkton, Maryland 21111.  Willing to discuss pulling out drivers as well.  Cheers!

  2. Hello, I just picked up The Fisher X-101-C from a friend of mine, and would like to have it checked over and repaired where necessary.  This is my first tube amp.  Who should I have look at it?  I am in Maryland.  Thanks!

  3. Sorry for the lapse in response!  The place is called MD Architectural Salvage, they have a website and facebook site.  He clears out old mostly industrial buildings.  As @Godataloss stated, they have awesome stuff.  I bought a table used in an old foundry from the ‘30s with a wonderfully aged wooden top and a cut down porcelain Firestone sign, a cool early Art Deco Westinghouse fan, and a few other odds and ends.  @Guest Vahorns it was where the Wizards play so indoor, my bad I am not a sports guy.  I would suggest contacting him through facebook.  I told him I would post them in this forum and maybe help him out selling them.

  4. Not mine, but for sale.  I was in an architectural salvage building over the weekend and ran across a few massive horns.  They were removed from Capitol One Stadium in Washington DC.  Also a handful of Electrovoice FRI+122/64, and two JBL AS2210-STD.  I know this is a Klipsch site but I know the group likes big horns.  They are located in Baltimore, MD.

I have a Scott 299b partially restored, got it out the other day thinking I might list it for sale. After a warmup from sitting unused for about 2 years I remembered why I love el84 amps. I don’t have an opinion on the fisher as I’ve never owned one and have only heard them a few times. As others have said you really can’t go wrong with either of they’ve been properly serviced or better yet restored. Can you take your speakers and go have a listen to them both?

Not exactly, my speakers are KPT-904’s and he is two hours away.

I've had both Scott, Fishers, and Sherwoods but my preference is Fishers. That being said you couldn't go wrong with either choice and that is a good place to be 8-)

Excellent! I believe we are making a swap for the Scott in the next week or two.

Can you find out who did the servicing and exactly what was done?  Owning vintage gear can be costly if critical components were not replaced resulting in failure.

Yes, he has receipts for both.  It would not be my first piece of vintage gear, I have had a dozen or so amps in various states of repair.

  9. Good morning folks!  I have never owned a tube amplifier before.  I have an opportunity to trade an existing amp for either a Fisher 500b or a Scott 299b, both have been serviced, both are within spitting distance price wise.  I like the look of both, I don’t need the tuning capabilities of the Fisher, and having the Scott integrated would be beneficial to me.  What are the thoughts of other owners?  Thanks!

I have a single I was using as a center but no longer need it.

I replaced the AL with a AA recapped by crites, I also replaced the tweeter with Crites 120 and replaced mid driver with K55 dual phase with soldered terminals.  Original owner stained a dark brown but can be removed if wanted and a small chip or two.  I still have the original AL but not the tweeter or mid.

    I send pics if interested

Where are you located with the single?

But unlike old cars the market niche specifically for vintage klipsch is very tiny.

You can not have supply and demand without the 'demand' part...

I agree it is a niche market, however I would say demand is pretty good, evidenced by the speed at which vintage klipsch sells.  Based on my own observations watching my local facebook marketplace, Craigslist, garage sale area, etc.  Even if there is no outside demand, I think there are enough of us Klipsch nuts who don’t mind having extra stuff around!

I bought a pristine set of piezo MCM-1900 tweets a few years back just because they were there with other gear I was getting. They went to a guy from Dallas who was putting together a set and that was all he lacked. I get things like that because I want those Klipsch sets restored and put to good use by somebody.

Agreed.  Like old cars, this stuff is only getting more scarce, and anytime something can be put back original I think it should be.  Good on you for getting them to a worthy home.

Rule #1. Klipsch gear is almost never next to you for pickup.    Like all things MCM 1900 if you search for a year or two tweeters will show up or you can rig something up.

You can say that again!  I try to pick up “odd” klipsch stuff whenever I find it, whether I need it or not.  It all comes around sometime

Well, I have em, they are in pristine condition too!  The gentleman that was selling was interested in some Forte IVs for his pool table area.

Within minutes of getting them home i ran into one unintended consequence,  namely the corollary to WAF: CAF.  Cat Attraction Factor.  The fur covering is like a magnet and so far the only solution has been AC/DC.  (Music, not electric shock)  If I can't remedy this I may have to head to the Garage Sale area. 😕

WAF rating so far is not zero, but hovering around a 2 on a scale of 0 to 10.  I'll have to start a new thread around these in the modifications area.  I think LPad'ing the mid and tweeter are going to be necessary to bring out the bass from these.  I really don't mind sacrificing a few DB if it brings them into balance.  First things first though, measurements in the morning when everyone is out of the house.

Cool!! So glad you got them, they were a great looking set.  My HII’s are pretty cat proof…

  15. I’ll admit, the rat fur even gave me pause, but hell I don’t have a wife.  They do look in nice condition, though.  The Crites parts are a nice touch but they don’t add much for me, I’d almost rather if they were just Klipsch.

my HII’s are sonically in great shape, the cabinets need a bit of love, a few bruises on the corners and edges.  I bought them & planned to re veneer, but I plugged them in and they sounded so good that project got put on a way back burner.  Great candidates if you like to tinker.  I can send you some pictures if you’d like.

🙂 I have my eyes on some KP2500s,  going to Baltimore on Thursday to check them out.  There's a fair chance I rework them too.

I'd have to go back and check, but I don't think I spent more than $50 per crossover, but I reused inductors from the original and sourced the others from another project's leftover parts.  The bass was much more evident and the horn was tamed nicely.  It's possible that change was mostly affected by the addition of the L-Pad, I wasn't able to discretely test each additional component to the XOver.  (e.g. notch filter & zobel)

I was tempted on that set (if you’re referring to the 2500s I think you are).  If you get them, and are interested in working a trade on them and any of the following: Heresy II’s, KG4’s, KG1’s or a single KP-250, let me know!  I like the pro stuff better.  Also picked up 3 Academy centers today, they sound great.
