  1. Try the Truth from the Horn Shoppe, it is an active pre, possible the best any where. hard to beat. Funny volume, but the remote is the bomb. it should be called the naked truth.
  2. Yes by all means. But the khorns have a funny lense opening to the bass bins. You can have the cabinets sit off the wall as well. You do need to add a small triangle to the wall surface. So that they now resemble the The Klipsch TSCM Professional. This is the final Khorn vesion, which exceeds the origional by leaps and bounds. http://www.itishifi.com/2012/08/klipsch-tscm.html.
  3. The way Klipschorns were intended... The pro Version. These aren't your typical Khorns. They are MONSTERS.
  4. With changing the mouth opening to the Front of the Klipschorn cabinet, I resolved a feedback issue. Which turned out to be the lowest note I have ever heard. This seems to transform the khorns into MONSTERS madness; Details and information that will change you version of reality for ever. ....... under no circumstances should you EVER try this configuration . Don't do it.

  6. thanks for the TSCM link That was exactly why they did not market them... Khorns very sexy, TSCM a little awkward looking to say the least. Try the 13 by 13 inch triangles, put a nail in the wall to and the triangle will sit on it. The other issue with the Khorns was that with both sitting flat on the wall may create standing waves.. Either way. This configuration rocks..
  7. Thanks oh so much with my question about Khorn mouth volume... Allot of persons way smarter than me. Technically. This is the real question or theorem. I contend that Paul Klipsch created a bass bin that will sit independent of the wall like all of his other Product. I have a big problem with the way the mouth opening and the wall intersect. The sound wave radiates forward and streight up, wierd. I have seen allot of bass bins. None that interacts quite like this. I believe Paul wanted to use the room as support, but not as an integral element in his wave design theory and application. If you use the front of the Klipschorn cabinet and draw a straight line to intersect the wall, a 13 by 13 inch triangle will complete the top to create a location for the horn opening. See Pics. A bass bin complete . That radiates off the front, This resembles every bass bin that I have ever seen. and thusly can be placed any where in the room like all of the other products Paul Klipsch created. I had a standing wave problem for years, of which I would call the note of Terror. Well the note of Terror happened to be the Lowest note I have ever heard, after I picked my jaw off the floor, I heard it two more times. Now I have perfectly articulated bass notes, passages, crystal clarity. top to bottom... first impression Coherency that seem to extend to upper mids. I have never seen this configuration... Khorns like you have never heard. try it . enjoy.
  8. I need the volume from the math. of the mouth of the expansion wave... thusly creating a quarter wave.... for Klipschorns. I need Total volume of the mouth opening ... which is right opening plus left opening size = a Volume... something please someone help me with this This is history in the making klipsch
  9. Damping shmamping. .5 to 7 .5 watts ..... what ever. this is way too heady. My speaker are 13 feet across.. I sit 11 feet back. Using a Korneff amp 1.8 watts. The preamp dosn't get past 1 oclock on the dial.. It is very loud! Set amps don't have allot of bass. I have recently biamped the Khorns using a Sonic Impact T-amp, and a 500hz harrison Fmod active filter. This is a really nice combo. The bass is glorious, and integrates seamlessly with the whole tonal palet. The T-amp has a gain switch, of which I can only go 75% or there is too much bass. I have recently purchased Mullard cv181 imput tubes, Premium NOS input tube are worth every overly high priced dollar. I also have a pair of 1944 Slyvania 6sn7w input tubes. Using these Premium NOS input tubes have made a massively huge improvement, a sonic revelation. You can hear the vibration of one instrument, and how it's tone blends with the other instuments creating harmonics and overtones. You can hear the note hang that then decay. Really really low level details. Minute nuances. Shimmering sizzling symbols. I heard a bass wave pulse. A standup bass make a envelope which expanded and balooned and then decayed. Dynamic explosions. Discrete placement. When I play Ornet Coleman and Jack Dejohnette, it all makes sence. You can hear them standing on opposite sides of the stage. And they are blatting nonesence.. Well they are sending out notes and the other one is finishing the note. Bouncing tone off each other. Like tonal pingpong. But now I can see the notes and how they are blending when they get answered on the other side. I hate the term Gob smacked... After about two album sides the system transported to aural wonderland. I am not sure what the last guy ment about his ASL amps. my Korneff is Astonishingly good. .5 damping from where I am sitting is way cool.
  10. Khorns should be xover at apr 400 htz .. Fmods have a 500 low pass filter. I am using a Sonic Impact T-amp 10 watts SS amp - $39.00 with the 500 htz Harrison Fmod active filter with very good results, using my Korneff 1.8 watt amp. The bass is much inhansed. Actually with full battery charge, I have to turn down the bass. The T-amp has a gain switch. The reviews are impressive.
  11. I have been trying to get more bass from my khorns using set amps. I am using the Sonic Impact T-amp biamped with a Jeff Korneff 45 amp with the Harrison Fmod 500 htz active lowpass filter with good results. For the first time I have to turn down the bass, so that is a good sign. The T-amp has variable gain, puts out 10 watts of class D power. The T-amp integrates very well, filling out the bottom without drawing attention to it's self. For Jazz and acoustic rock it sounds very natural. It is still breaking in so I would image a continual improvement. Check the reviews at www.si-5.com. Enjoythemusic 2005 award list the ACI Titan sub woofer also as a very good match with the Khorns.. Just Imagine 2 Titan sitting behind Khorns... A far cry from the $60 for the T-amp / Fmod combo. Enjoy
  12. I am asking the same question. I have two amps a GTA 300B and a Jeff Korneff 45. With my system the Khorns lower end lacks impact ? Period. The mid and high end are incredible. My set amps don't have enough balls to fill in the lower registers. 1. Hense swithching preamps to one with massive storage - really stong bass. 2. A sub woofer / or two / to fill in were the Khorns wash out. 3. Biamped situation with active xover- not ideal. 4. Running 4way 5. Something else? IF the lower register was augmented with more presence and impact my sytem would be over the top.
  13. I have a pair of fully modified Golden Tube Audio 300B's http://www.high-endaudio.com/RC-Amplifiers.html I recently purchased a Jeff Korneff 45 amp. I am using a set of Klipschorns/alk's The 45 has more than enough to power the Khorns. The Korneff amp is a superb amp. I have been rolling tubes, this amp continues to amaze. This is a really fine amp, and spends most of the time hooked up... For large orchestral or Big band Jazz the GTA rocks... for 1.8 watts Seriously the Korneff is not far behind. Don't let the wattage fool you the bass power comming from the 45 tube is HUGE.. the midrange is beyond reproach and the high end is incredible. 45' amps and Klipsch speakers .. incredible affordable high end audio.. forever ...........................
  14. Jeff Korneffs' latest creation http://groups.msn.com/korneffvacuumtube/shoebox.msnw
  15. I have no experience with the 6BQ5 amp.. this was Jeff's earlier design. I have a pair of Klipschorns /alk's. The 2a3 amps are extremely popular with the Khorns.... but a recurring thread at the audioasylum keeps mentioning about 45 based amps being even more stunning than the more powerful 2a3's. Almost everyone that owns a 2a3 and tries a 45 is an instant convert..... well after reading a million posts. Jeff Korneff's 45 are always described as a very fine amp, and many owners that have swopped back and forth end up owning another Korneff.... So I have taken the plunge and ordered one of his newest amps, with the full set of NOS tubes. Jeff says that the 45 is the only amp he listens to now. I can hardly wait... I own an upgraded Golden Tube Audio 300B se which is same amp that is highly acclaimed by Author Salvatore at www.high-endaudio.com. I should be fun comparing are really good 300B with the highly recommended Korneff 45. I met a guy at the local used record shop that owns a Korneff 45, he said that when the needle drops the performers step right into the living room the level of realism is well 'Spooky'. 1.8 watts and only 2 weeks to go. ohweebaby
  16. I have a pair of modified GTA SE 300B's using KR300XLS tubes... all the internal parts have been upgraded by Isleal Blume of Coincident Speakers CA ... when upgraded these are one of the finest 300B's on the planet. The upgrade is highly recommended.
  17. I have used 18" spiked pattio stones every where.. The spikes are machine threads into nylon anchors-set in to pattio stones, the spike end is normal looking wood screw. $5.00 for Tweak.. This gets everything off the rug and spiked to the cement floor. Speakers amps, and Turn Table. Inert is good.. Inert is very good. Then I took chimney flues... 8" by 12" by 24" Plumber Puttied to the stones filled them with sand and set my Book Shelf speakers on top stuck again with Plumbers Putty. eg. http://www.audiophilia.com/hardware/diyttstand.htm. The effect was HUGE UNBELIEVABLE. I set the amp on Tennis Balls cut in half/cup side up. I had done this to my 2 channel, and decided to apply the pattio stone to my surround sound... I hardly turn the TV on at all... 3-4 days had passed I turned the TV on ... HOLLY COW what the heck!! Where is all the sound comming from.. It was like adding a $1000 upgrade to my system.... Definition impact.. Imaging. and BASS. To think the Sub woofer was turned off...
