  1. Yes, I guess putting back the screws would be the easiest. I was originally worried they wouldn't look great, but I guess it is pretty easy to spray paint them brown and they will blend well enough with the wood veneer. Thanks
  2. I have Klipsch Quartet speakers aligned horizontally on a shelf in my family room (see photo). In this configuration, there are 4 screw holes where the risers used to be attached. I am concerned that the cabinet is no longer air-tight, and may be affecting the bass or otherwise. The speakers sound great; I just want to optimize. 1. Should I bother plugging the screw holes? 2. If so, what is the best way to plug? I envision having these quartets in place for a long time. So a permanent plug is okay, but you never know if there is a temporary solution should I decide I want to re-attach the risers as some point. Since the Quartets are horizontal, the plugs will be slightly visible. So I'm also looking for a aesthetically pleasing solution. Thanks in advance for the advice! IMG_8722.HEIC IMG_8722.HEIC
  3. There are so many people in the forums saying how great the RF-5s are... I can't buy anymore speakers right now, but I'm actually tempted to look for another set of RF-3's (so my surround and rear surrounds would match perfectly in the 7.2 setup) and use the RF-5s that i have in a stereo setup in anther room. Just an idea of the future and gives me a reason to keep checking used speakers online, which is always fun haha
  4. Hi all - I am getting this system dialed in... playing around with speaker placement and settings. I definitely need acoustic treatments in the room, but there is nothing i can do about it right now. For those of you who have the RF-7s and matching RC-7, do you have any center gain set to the RC-7 in your processor? I have been playing around with +1-3.5 decibels. +2.5-3.0 seems to be best so far, but different sources seem to yield different results in my mind. The Pioneer Elite MCAAC set it to +1.0 I think, but that didn't seem like enough. Just curious what others are doing. Thanks!
  5. Hi all - just reporting back that I did in fact pick up the RF-3's over break to complete the 7.2 system. I did not mean to ghost you guys...I am just new to the forums and need to set up notifications I guess for replies. I wish I could have found a pair of RF-5s to perfectly match, but these RF-3s were in good shape and at a reasonable price. They did not come with feet however, so now I do have to figure out where to find some feet, which seem to be long out of production from what I can tell online. So I'm using RF-7s upfront, RF-5 for surround (5.1 content) and RF-3's in the rear (for 7.1 content). I will say only about 10% of my movie collection is 7.1, so while another pair of RF-5s would have been nice, it's really not a big deal at all. After having spent about 1.5 weeks with the RF-3s, I would say they blend with the overall system pretty well. I went from a Quintet IV 5.1 system to the current RF-7/5/3 lineup w/ 2x R-115sw...so just overall the sound improvement is huge. I almost have too much sound now and I believe the next step will need to be acoustical treatments, rather than more amps or speakers. I am also planning to build wood bases for the RF-5s and RF-3s, so that all tweeters are at the same height, with the RF-7s being the largest and sitting on the floor.
  6. I am seeing a pair of RF-3 listed for $350. The seller claims they are in very good condition with no dents/creases on the woofers. He is also 2 hours away from me... I might jump on them if they are still available this weekend, as that is the soonest i could make the drive. I'm still debating if I want to be more patient and wait for a pair of RF-5s to come up, so all of my surround speakers match. But the RF-5s seem pretty rare and the asking price is generally pretty high
  7. Zen - What crossover setting do you use for your setup, if you don't mind my asking? My AVR limits me to either 80hz or 50hz for all speakers (no ability to set for individual speakers). I have read 60hz might be the sweet spot, but I don't have that option. I do use the system for music listening, and I am finding after limited trial and error that 50hz seems to sound better for music. For home theater, I can't tell to much of a difference. My only concern is the strain on the AVR running the RF-7s, RC-7 and the RF-5s all together...maybe I don't need to worry too much. My dual R-115SW are only turned up half way on the gain, otherwise they shake my drywall too much.
  8. Thanks for the note. After taking a look at their specs, I will keep these on the watch list as well. I was looking for floor standers, but to your point this is another possibility that could implement well into the system. I also like the front ported design. In the theater, they would likely be on or close to the back wall. I actually do have bookshelves in my main living room, so if I got them I could keep looking for floors and have the ability to repurpose them to the shelves.
  9. awesome you know a lot about this speaker line, appreciate the help! I was having trouble finding reliable info online given their age.
  10. Cool insight on the value...I was a bit uncertain given these speakers are well aged at this point. I don't think this particular guy is coming down. I offered him $600, and his starting price was actually $800, and has since offered $700. I'll honor the $600 if he wants to do a deal, since I already offered it...but yes definitely not going any higher. I'm a patient buyer and can wait
  11. Sounds like a great plan on the Rf-3's. The wife is already not thrilled with the amount of money spent, so if i could snag these for ~$200 to complete the setup, that would help to keep the peace around the house... any concerns with the age of these speakers? I am seeing the RF-3's date back to 2001 or earlier in same cases.
  12. Appreciate the advice - I can add those models to the watch list as well. There is a guy in my city with RF-5s for sale currently for $700...but that seems like way too much for 15+ year-old speakers that will get relegated to surround duty.
  13. I recently purchased used: RF-7(i) (x2) - L/R RC-7 - Center RF-5 (x2) - Surround R-115SW (x2) - Subs Pioneer Elite VSX-54VX - backup amp (not using but included) 12 guage wire and LFE cables included I paid $2k USD for the lot, local pickup, so I'm hoping this was a good deal!?! So far I am loving the setup, but now I am looking for another pair of floor speakers to complete the 7.2 setup as rear speakers. I'm looking thru the used market for floor speakers which should match the RF-5 reasonably well, so all four surround speakers will be balanced. I'm looking through the Klipsch historical lineup: RF-5 > RF-82 > RF-82ii > RP-280F > RP8000F Of these options, are any not comparable to the RF-5s that I just purchased? Are these all basically the same, or is there daylight between the various models, or models to avoid? I am basically looking for the best used deal I can find to round out the set. I'm not sure if I should just wait for another RF-5 set to surface at a reasonable price (they seem to be more rare) so there is a perfect match, or if any of these models will fill in fine. Any help / advice is appreciated.
