  1. I have a pair of Monitor 10's that I bought in 1988 and they are still alive and kicking. They were outstanding speakers for their time period and they've stood the test of time. They are currently my surround speakers along with my RF7's, RC7 and RSW15 (yes, I know, kinda big for surround speakers, but I could not let go of them!). I can't compare them to the other but can say that I really have enjoyed mine since college! Good luck.
  2. Just more clarification on the Sony ES and Soundcity. You won't find this and their other high-end products displayed on their website - you have to call and ask what's available. Also got a $700 400-disc Sony ES CD changer for about 40% off (same 5-yr warranty) and other high-end components. Call Joe Sanginari at x708 and let him know a repeat customer in Texas said you'd get a screamin' deal! Ask him to verbally give you a price on ANY product you desire; I'll bet they will beat your best price and it will be factory authorized, new and warrantable. Happy hunting!
  3. I noticed that one of the folks that responded to your post has a Sony ES receiver, Sony STR-DA5ES. I've got that unit and it is great - the ES line comes with a 5-yr. warranty. Best part is that I got if from an authorized dealer for 50% off retail ($750 vs. $1,500). Six channel @ 120W per channel Call soundcity.com and ask for Joe Sanginary at x708. You'll get a better price by calling. If $750 is too much, ask what Joe can get you that he recommends. You'll not be disappointed.
  4. call soundcity.com and ask for Joe Sanginari at x708. You may do much better (I did).
  5. I'd suggest going to Soundcity.com's website, getting their 1-800 number, calling them and choose x708 for Joe Sanginari. Find out if they carry this product but don't advertise it on their website. Give him your "best price" and ask him to beat it. Confirm this on your own, but you'll get the factory warranty if you buy from this vendor. I've purchased my entire system from them. Happy hunting. JP
  6. SACD.... Sony DVP-NS755V. Mixed emotions on this $200 CD/DVD/SACD player... great features and price; poor reliability. Have replaced my unit twice under warranty. As for the format, I can't speak to DVD-A yet, but in hindsight I've seen more music that I like in this format than in SACD. With the power of Sony and Phillips behind SACD, I expect this gap to close and for both formats to be strong into the future. Just waiting on a REASONABLY priced SACD/DVD-A player (any manufacturers reading?) $1,200? Get real. John
  7. I have this DVD/SACD player and I'd like to tell you I'm pleased, but I'm only partially pleased - features are there, but poor reliability. I'm actually on my third unit. First unit was dead out of the box purchased on-line directly from Sony. Paid $200 and received 5 DVD's and 3 magazine subscriptions for free. Returned dead unit within 30 days to Sony and got a complete refund, no questions asked. No left channel audio output. Purchased the second unit from soundcity.com for $185 plus $15 shipping. Unit was dead out of the box. No Subwoofer 5.1 analog output. Thought about trying a different make or model, but this unit was so fully loaded with features (including SACD format) for the price that I let soundcity.com replace it. They covered all the cost of shipping the new unit/returning the old unit. Sonically, this is an outstanding unit... again, it is unbelievably loaded for $200. It works well with my other Sony components (much more reliable Sony ES top-of-the-line receiver and Sony ES 400 disc CD changer). Am hoping it will hold up. Short version: Outstanding value and features; less than desirable reliability. Buy at your own risk!

  9. Hey Gang... simple question. I've got a set of RF7's that the rubber floor studs have broken off of... I'm now using the spikes on carpet. Over the course of the next month I'm putting down porcelain tile and laminate (pergo stuff) flooring... one RF7 due to placement will now be on tile; one one laminate. Seems like I've heard that to protect floors with the use of spikes I should place pennies under each spike for each speaker... is this legit? What options are you using to protect your non-carpet floors? Mucho thanx. John
  10. This is a fantastic product. Got mine a few months ago from soundcity.com for slightly better than this... I think Sony may be closing out the high-end ES line, but I don't think you'll ever find better bang for the buck. You got a fantastic deal on a great piece of equipment. JP
  11. Joe - I came close to buying this unit as well, but opted for the same 400-disc changer in Sony's ES line.... Sony may be discontinuing this upscale line, but if you can still get one of these units you will be pleased. 5-yr factory warranty. I ended up getting the unit for $450 shipped from Soundcity.com; call them directly and speak with Joe at x708. They will give you a great deal on anything you decide to go with, but call them directly as you may get better pricing than appears on the web. Happy Hunting. John
  12. Sounds like someone needs to step up the the plate and rock your world! I recently purchased a Sony ES receiver, STRDA5ES. Retailed for $1,500 from Sony; bought it from Soundcity.com for $748 shipped. Unit is new with a 5-yr warranty; 6.1 w/ PLII, DTS-ES and DTS Neo 6. I have not seen any of the ES line advertised by Sony in the last couple of months so I fear they are dropping their high-end line. Talk with Joe at x708 to see if he can still get this model for you. Sounds superb. John
