  1. I think that quote says it all - listening to equipment vs. music. Very few people are capable of reliably telling the difference when between 320kbps vs. FLAC. High res audio appears to be a marketing ploy.
  2. I'm unfamiliar with "streamers." What does a streamer do that a mac mini powering spotify & personal collection (hard drives) achieves for me already?
  3. no debate- just confirming the that monoblocks provide no sonic advantage if you are listening to mono recordings, which I assumed, but wanted to confirm with someone who knows way more vs. me.
  4. Thank you for your generous reply. You make light of something interesting: How a good (jazz) mono record vs. a stereo record is more desirable objectively..... but then, you listen to a sample such as early columbia / teo macero produced stereo recordings - possibly 1st 200 recordings that were released. They sound pretty amazing - example dave brubeck: Time out 1959. I agree with you for certain, but some of these early ones are impressive to my ears despite the limitation of a record vs. digital.
  5. I'm familiar with the design advantages of monoblocks for 2 channel/stereo recordings, however, how does that translate to someone who listens to say 50% mono recordings. Is channel separation irrelevant then? The larger question is: Is there value in monoblocks for someone who listens to recordings circa <1959 ? wondering if there's something i don't understand....or is it obvious....
  6. I think the autoformer on a Heresy 2 is adjusted for -10db for midrange? is that correct & if so, how does that compare to the original 1 vs. 3 & 4?
  7. I want to experiment with conservative room correction. The (2) goals are: - refining bass <250hz (happy to first experiment without a subwoofer, however i do seem to think my subwoofer is additive to the experience- comparing the 2 would be interesting - Time alignment - i know very little about this parameter, but if there are cheap tools to achieve, i'm interested. I'm also interested to learn if applying bass correction should be limited to the crossover point and below vs. applying to the mains AND the subwoofer.....? i know nothing so....just thinking out loud Simply my idiot mind thinks I can run a manual frequency sweep using my phone & plot/chart the response, and use a free equalizer available online to correct the obvious flaws. Am I out of my league in my idea? I have no understanding of any free tools to correct for time alignment, but am game for learning more about this..... thanks to those who know & can share.....conservative room correction is what I'm interested in experimenting with - on the cheap.....
  8. Hi, I cannot locate the info that I thought I read in here about the outline of how to go about protecting unfinished cabinets using danish oil, steel wool and wax. Can someone please tell me the outline of how to do this? Thank you !!!
  9. Prior to applying a coat or 2 of clear coat - what grade of sandpaper should I use to clean up the unfinished birch cabinets? Or is there another way of finishing these you would recommend? thanks.
  10. I see the 2 nuts under the board, but I don't think they actually fasten the speaker terminals??? thank you!
  11. Thank you! You gave exactly what I was looking for. baseline and adjust from there. I really have no experience with this stuff, but my ears are in pursuit of optimizing the mid range for low volume listening. If this crossover does that (magically)I will be very happy. Only one way to find out, which is why i thought this crossover offers something thoughtful that could be valuable.
  12. i do not have a schematic & I think the autoformer settings adjust the db levels? please advise.
  13. i understand that you can attenuate (is that the correct word?) the squak / tweeter. That seems very interesting to me, especially in terms of optimizing the balance at lower listening levels, but i guess no one thinks the way i do, and has little explore/discover with this flexible crossover. Hooray for Heresys!!
  14. I talked to him before I posted here. I'm more interested in what the experience of the end users vs. the engineer.
  15. I'm feeling committed to this pair of Heresy II's i found used recently. For those that have experience with the ALK universal economy crossover upgrade - does anyone have some guidance to share that will help me optimize / tune these? How have you specifically tuned the crossover & what was the sonic difference?? I'm holed up all winter, so would like some guidance as I play with these. Thank you & Happy New Year!
