  1. Lol let's hope not. They were listed on Craigslist for a month before I noticed them.
  2. Thanks 😊 Well they are here and they are sound fantastic. They have the b2 crossovers the soldered mid range driver. I got them for 700 and they came with a nice walnut klipsch 10" sub, fairly new Yamaha home theater receiver and Yamaha 5 disc changer. How'd I do?
  3. I'll try to report back later today then if time allows. If you have time, check out my hifi playlist. Been working on it off and on for several months. https://tidal.com/browse/playlist/e3acdcad-4509-4db5-8f88-1ffc9d16a167
  4. Getting some 1982 Cornwalls tomorrow. My first order of business will be to purchase a crossover upgrade kit from Bob Crites. Can I listen to them in the mean time? Could I damage the speakers/drivers by listening to them with the old capacitors? I'm not going to go crazy with volume. Nothing more than a watt or two. Please advise. Thank you
  5. After reading all the replies and doing many, many, many hours of research on Marantz receivers I've landed on the 2245. There is less than 1 db of difference between 45 watt amp and 52 watt amp. The search is on for a fully refurbished one. Thank you all for your valuable input!
  6. Wow amazing response! Thank you! I have been researching Rock and roll music gear equipment history, but have never seen that pic before. Incredible. Thank you! Goes to show that more really is more! Lol!
  7. Checked it out, nice but way above the point of diminishing returns for my speakers, source, and room. Looking for amp and pre in the $400-500 range and kinda have my heart set on an old Marantz. About to go read your in the 2252b suggested above.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions and the welcome back! It's good to be back and obsessing over the mineutia again lol. My room is only 12x14, so 168 cubic feet. Speaker specs copied from above handling 65 watts maximum continuous (325 watts peak)sensitivity 94dB @ 1watt/1meter I did read the post about having an amp too small, so I'm reserved about cranking my little amp now up to much. Kinda looking for the Goldilocks amp. Not to weak to get into clipping early and not too powerful to blow the tweeters out again. Keep the suggestions coming. 😁
  9. I was an active forum member around 2002-2004. Haven't had a dedicated 2 channel setup in a long time! Got married, started a family, you know. I found a set of kg 3.5 speakers in a pawn shop with blown tweeters and did the crites tweeter upgrade two nights ago. I have a dragonfly red hooked to my computer to steam lossless Tidal. Using a small class t amp for power right now. Probably will put out 10 watts after a few upgrades. So far estatic to have some good tunes. I plan to upgrade to a vintage Marantz 2200b series receiver. My speakers are 65 watts max and in a small room, but I like them loud. I'm wondering how many watts of amp power I should get to match those speakers well and not run the risk of blowing them. I play loud electric guitar and will use the Klipsch as my backup band, so it's gonna be loud! What do you recommend? Thank you and good to be back!
  10. I just added new Hi-res pictures for anyone interested.
  11. Yeah, I still have my klipsch speakers, and nice HT reciever, so its not a total loss. I'm hoping for a seperate tube system one day. When i have a bigger house. Maybe some klipsch horns & SET's.... *dreams* Thanks Everyone!
  12. Hi everyone, I'm a long time reader / lurker and I have to sell my gear. All of which I aquired in this forum. It was all rebuilt by NOSValves from this forum. He did an awesome job because it sounds beautiful and works perfectly. I have to sell because I need money. I took pefect care of my gear and I'm hoping someone here will pick it up so it would goto a loving home (with klipsch speakers) Dynaco St-70 rebuilt + mods + Cat5 Speaker Cables http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?ampstube&1160701391 Mapletree Ultra 4A SE rebuilt + mods http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?preatube&1160702023
  13. I have 2 rf-5s for sale for $1100.00 Mint Condition, spikes, paperwork. Still have everything for these. About 1 year old, with maybe 100 hours on them. No excessive volume, everything in perfect condition. I live close to Lake Charles, Louisiana.
  14. It was around 80 bucks for the banana plugs that crimp on that many strands of wire if I remember correctly. It was more expensive for cat5 with teflon insulators instead of plastic.
  15. mapletree ultra 4A (PRE)$550 +$20 shipping dec-685 Cd Player $550 +$30 shipping dynaco st-70 $600 +$40 shipping The ST70 is completely rebuilt and redesigned with the Curcio board, upgraded power supply, and Auricaps. I have an extra rectifier tube, which I'm throwing in with it. The Mapletree Ultra 4A SE is the very first SE that NosValves designed from Mapletree standard 4A product. It has Auricaps and upgraded power supply. If I remember correctly the preamp has dual outputs to hook to 2 amps. The middle two tubes on the preamp are metal instead of glass, have a grounding wire attached to them & an o-ring around them, which makes the sound clearer. Dec-685 comes with NOS Tube & standard ruby tube. Retails for $700, mines about 7 months old, sounds great. Perfect condition! The entire system sounds awesome! I love hifi audio, I just don't listen to it much, because theres no one around here who enjoys listening to it with me. And I don't like listening by myself. I bought the system around last july/septemeber. I've listened to it for maybe 50-60 hours. I'm going to reinvest the money into a home theater *sigh*. I have people that I can enjoy that with. I've put this moment off for months, because I love it so much. I also started making some cat5 speaker cables http://www.venhaus1.com/diycatfivecables.html I braided two, which took about 12 hours. Each cable is about 6 foot in length. All that needs to be done is strip the ends off & crimp on the connectors. I will sell them for $100 bucks, which less than what I paid for the materials if I remember correctly. I'll sell the system as a whole or individually. I'm hoping someone will buy it all from me at once, but if that doesn't happen in a couple days, I'll part it out. I wrote down all the tubes in the system just in case anyone is curious. The Dynaco has well over $200 dollars worth of tubes in it Sorry for posting on a forum not for sale items, but this is the only place I've ever gone for hifi stuff & where I bought both of the amp & preamp from.
  16. Klipsh shipped them to me. $5.82 for both speakers $5.00 for shipping. I figured they would overcharge. Klipsch rocks!
  17. I will contact my local klipsch vendor, and I couldn't find them on the solen page, am I missing something? If I don't have any luck with those two, I will get the home made ones from you if you dont mind, THanks! -Justin
  18. Used to Have my speakers bi-wired, but no longer. Lost my speaker terminal jumpers in the move to my new house Right now I made some jumpers out of speaker wire, but with them and the amp wires both going to one teminal, they don't connect so well. I know there are some people here that aren't using theirs, wanna sell all four? Thanks
  19. Do the rubber feet take much away from sound of reference series speakers. Or should I continue with spikes on top of quarters?
  20. So aside from the flame bait, which speaker cable do you think would be better, the cat 5 speaker cables I posted below http://www.venhaus1.com/diycatfivecables.html or the original link http://www.audiosold.com/articles/specables.htm Alot of the high end speaker cables I see are thin copper like the original link. If anyone recalls the system that guy sold all at once, that had tons of tweaks and isolation sandboxes, etc... he used this same kind of speaker wire. Anyone?
  21. what about these? http://www.venhaus1.com/diycatfivecables.html
  22. The DAC in your reciever might suck. What kind of reciever is it? Try using that analog outputs of your cd player. It seems I read somewhere that coax digital is supposed to sound a little better than optical. I know that is flame bait, I've never tried it. But just read it somewhere for those two cents.
  23. Sure, whenever you have the get together I'll bring the DEC up there I tried everything with the volume control, it even distorts when you can barely hear it over the speakers. I sent emails to both the preamp designer and steve at decware. I sent steve all the preamp specs and he said the impedences were all okay. The preamp guy said it wouldn't damage the preamp, but he would rather see 2.0v than 3.5v at it. on Steves outputs there is no volume control, it's balls to the wall all the time =) at 3.5v the cd player is almost putting out a full watt. (at least that is what the preamp manufacturer said) Maybe I should hook the rcas up to my speakers
