  1. Thanks for the insight. This is the kind of experience I was hoping to hear about. Now I just need to figure out how to use the 12v trigger on the receiver to power up the amp at start up. The amp I plan to use doesnt have a 12v input but my surge protector has several outlets that can be controlled by a 12v trigger. This should work.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  2. I'm debating about hooking up an old amp to my current home theater system and I wanted some opinions as to whether or not I should. Speakers Chorus II - mains Academy - center White KSP S-6 - surrounds Black KSP S-6 - back surrounds (which I'm willing to trade for another white set) SVS PB12- Plus/2 - sub Reciever - Pioneer Elite VSX-55TXi 7 x 100 watts / channel into 8 ohms with THD of .09% Optional Amp - Sony ES TA-N77ES (circa 1990) I've had this amp for a long time but stopped using it a few years ago due to space limits in my equipment stand. I now have more room. 2 channel amp 200 Watts / channel into 8 ohms with THD of .004% 270 Watts / channel into 4 ohms with THD of .006% Notes: Currently I have all of my speakers set to "small" with a crossover of 80hz. My room size is 16x26 but I have the system set up the short way. Everything sounds great up to reference levels and beyond (if you can stand it that loud). Do I stand to benefit at all by adding this amp? Would it make a difference in 2 channel listening situations? Do the Chorus II's need more power given that they are set to "small"? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks Bruce
  3. Thanks for the response. I think i might have to hook the VCR directly to the TV in addition to routing it through the receiver to accomplish what I want. I agree that composite is pretty bad. The only time I even use my VCR is to make a copy of something off of my Tivo for a friend. They can deal with the poor quality if they even notice. I've recently purchased the HD Tivo and a HDTV so I'm lovin' life right now.
  4. I recently bought the 55TXi and i have quick set-up question. Does this reciever have the ability to select what signals are being sent to the record out jacks independant of what source your listening to / watching? It was called a "record out" selector on many previous recievers i've owned. I'm hooking up my VCR to record some things off of my TIVO and I have all the signals routed through the reciever. (I'm using all composte connections) With my old reciever I set the record out as the TIVO and then would select VCR as the source to see what i was recording along with the VCR's on-screen display. I've read the manual but can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. I have one in black that i was thinking of selling on ebay. If you have interest let me know. Bruce
  6. Thanks for the advise. I swapped out the bad midrange with the good and it worked fine so it must be the diaphram.
  7. A related question: I recently moved into a new home and had DirecTV installed. There is a dual run of RG6 coax from the wall to my Audio/Video area for the TIVO and it has a seperate ground wire connencted to it. The incoming Satalite signal has already been grounded so this wire is unused. Rather than pull it off is it possible to use this wire to carry another type of signal? The main reason I am considering this is that I need to push this wire under the baseboard it would be easier to use this wire than to run another one. I was thinking i might be able to attach RCA plugs to it and use it to carry the subwoofer out signal from my reciever to an amplifier in the back room. or alternatively, as the subwoofer cable from an amp to the sub. or from an amp to my base transducers in the couch. Any idea if this would work?
  8. Just moved to a new house and after reconnecting everything I realized that the midrange horn on one of my chorus II's is not woring. I believe I've had problems with this horn coming in and out in the past (not sure if it was this speaker) but this time it's out. What I've done: I took off the passive radiator on the back and checked the wire connections to the horn - all is good - I even removed them and reattached. I also checked the cross-over for anything obvous but didn't find anything. What should I do next? Take in for service? Is there a way to determine if its the horn or cross-over? Any help or advise would be appreciated. Thanks Bruce
  9. I'm new to this forum and after reading a lot of posts it sounds like I'm missing out with my current set-up. I'm currently running a KV-3 with my Chorus II's but i'd like to upgrade to the Academy center. Please let me know if anyone is selling or if there are sites, in addition to ebay, to keep an eye on. Thanks. ------------------ Setup: Chorus II's KV-3 KSP-S6's
  10. I've been the happy owner of a pair of Chorus II's circa 1990. Unfortunately, the midrange horn on one of them will come in and out. Sometimes higher volume levels would kick it back in but it had now been out for quite awhile. Therefore, its time to fix it. As an aside, the speakers have only been used at moderate sound levels since i left college in 1992. I'm wondering if this is a blow horn or some other problem? Crossover? I'm not very technical myself but i'm genrally handy and could perform simple fixes. So i'd like to know if i should take them in for service or buy replacement parts and fix them myself. Any suggestions or ideas will be appreciated. ------------------ Setup: Chorus II's KV-3 KSP-S6's
