  1. my promedia v2 400 also got this nasty buzzing and hissing recently, after 23 years of use. two bad 47uf capacitors that both lost 80% capacitance, replaced with panasonic 105c caps. They use the cheapest caps in these amps.
  2. spoke too soon. the buzzing is back. there must be an issue with the amp
  3. the problem was electrical interference when I changed the position of the subwoofer. the back of the sub was facing a surge protector. when i changed the position of the sub back to what it was before, the constant buzzing went away.

What can cause this noise? the noise is not constant. it comes in spurts. this is the buzzing noise when speaker is idle, even when it isn't plugged into any audio source. If this were ground loop interference, I'd expect it to be constant. This only started recently. These speakers are 22 years old. I hope someone here knows this noise and how to fix.
