  1. In my testings, up to now, I didn't compare single wire with bi-wire with the same cable, so that's not fair. I have tried a single run of Mogami 3082 as single wire or 2 run of Mogami 3082. I need to try 2 run of 3082 in single wire mode to see if it makes a difference or not. I also have a set of 3104 I could try the same with.
  2. English isn't my native langage, can you tell me what you mean?
  3. Yes I prefered the wire to the plate too when I tried both. I've been testing some speaker cables with my setup, still evaluating. It's between the Mogami 3104 and the Mogami 3082. I also tried 2 runs of Mogami 3082 in Bi-Wire but I've yet to try 2 runs of 3082 in single wire or the 3104 in twisted pairs. That's next on my list.
  4. I know about bi-amping but I'm more interested in bi-wiring with the Cornwall IV. Just trying to see if Klipsch designed the speaker in a way that would make Bi-wiring work better or worst than single wire with a jumper, be it a plate or short cable. What is the science behind this? Why would one way work better than the other with the Cornwall?
  5. I was told that some speaker manufacturers put 4 binding post on their speakers mostly to please customers but that they might sound better with a single wire instead of bi-wire. Were the Cornwall IV designed to be used with bi-wire of single wire?
  6. Thank you for your detailed reply, I really appreciate it. I have a good multimeter at home, I'm just not sure exactly how to measure noise floor with it, I will read about it and try it or if you have a second to explain how to do it that'd be great, that's a very good idea! EDIT: I just had a look at my multimeter and unfortunately I don't think it is sensitive enough, I only have 200ACV or 600ACV. I am using the XLR input, the source feeding it is a RME ADI-2 DAC FS. The noise is the same with or without anything plugged into it. Should I still try with a shorted RCA? As for the nature of the noise, it seems to be a 60Hz hum with harmonics, I only hear the low 60hz is I put my head close to the woofer. What I hear from the listening position is mostly midrange "electrical noise" so it might be 120hz. It's a constant buzz, no crackling, no static or anything like that. Comes from both channels equally. If I remove the 12AU7 tubes it dissapears completely. V10 and V13 seem to have the most effect. That leads me to believe the noise comes from the driver stage, not from the power tubes. Thanks again for the very informative post.
  7. Good to know, too bad I recently bought some expensive Furutech bananas and spades... Anyway, I'm still undecided on what to do. I think I'll try them but I have to wait for paypal to unlock my acount, that's another story.
  8. Lol I had to look up WAF. Good one 😃
  9. Ok so no banana plug? Will spades work?
  10. Which amp would you recommend then? As I said earlier I have a Primaluna EVO 400 which is really well reviewed but with my Cornwall IV I find it a bit noisy, I like the sound but I'd prefer something silent in between songs.
  11. Do you consider these Quicksilver amp, especially the horn mono amp, to be good value for the money only or are they up there with more expensive options? I have a Primaluna Evo 400 amp that is a bit too noisy for my taste with my cornwall so the horn mono seems interesting but only if it sounds as good.
  12. Yeah that's the appeal. I just need to decide if I'm willing to drop 400$ just to satisfy my curiosity 😯
  13. Ill keep you cable suggestion in mind. I have a waudio cable coming from amazon because I needed a 10 foot one, if it makes no difference I might return it and try the one you suggested.
  14. The best being the EVO 400 power amp I already own or the Quicksilver? 🤔
  15. Have you heard a PrimaLuna before, or something else to compare to the Horn Mono? Also, can these go loud without efforts? Thanks
  16. Thanks for your opinion! It's pretty tempting to try them with the 10 day return period but it doesn't cover shipping fees and it's quite expensive to have it shipped to Canada. I'd lose about 400$ if I return them... I also have this mental blockage that tells me the primaluna I already own is worth a lot $ and considered to be worth even more than its price, while the QS is a lot cheaper, might have less of an ownership proudness, its a pretty dumb way of thinking I know lol Anyway, how's tube life with the horn mono, how 's reliability / maintenance? Primaluna makes a pretty big deal about it but I wonder how much of it is marketing. I talked to their service by email and their answers were so minimal they were pretty much useless, they wouldn't give me an explanation of what tube does what even though I asked multiple times, that disappointed me quite a bit. So the more simple Horn Mono Amp is appealing because it looks more easy to repair and has a lot less tubes in them. 6 instead of 14, quite cheaper to retube! But the sound has to be on par, that's still my priority. I could shorten my speaker quite a lot with the Horn Mono, that might put them at an advantage... Lots to think about!
  17. I have a primaluna evo 400 paired with my cornwall iv now. It sounds pretty good but i feel like its too much power for the cornwall and I do have a slight hum / buzz that seems to be inevitable with that much power and sensitive speakers. I compared it to my anaview ams1000 class d amp and the primaluna has more depth, more saturated midrange but less low end than the class d. Both are good honestly. I like a good mix of punch and 3D-ness. Anyway, the quicksilver horn mono amp grabbed my attention, I'd really like a similar sound to the primaluna but with less noise and less volume so I can turn up my preamp more. I like the triode mode on the primanula but mostly for jazz, which is not what i listen to the most, I'm more into John Mayer kind of stuff or indie alternative type of music, I like a wide range of stuff and the ultralinear mode works on more material. The maker of the quicksilver told me its an ultra linear design and that he uses his with cornwall too so thats reassuring. Do you think I would like the horn mono amp with the type of music I like.
  18. Hi, I'm new to the forum and recent owner of a pair of Cornwall IV, great speakers! I have a Primaluna EVO 400 now, I like it but I feel like it might be too much amp for these speakers. I get a small buzz and that annoys me even though it's only present when the room is quiet with no music playing. So I'm looking at options but I don't want to spend crazy amount of money just to feel proud if you know what I mean. The Horn Mono Amp seems interesting, has anybody compared it to a Primaluna? What difference could I expect?
