  1. I'm thinking of hanging my plasma TV on the wall behind it, is that a viable option for you? Would it help your space situation, or am I asking a dumb question....
  2. You are attached to your KG4's for the same reason I am to mine, they are great! They are not too picky about what drives them, but a crappy amp will still sound like crap. After two years with my KG4's here in Korea, I bought a pair of ChorusII's in '04 (after 8 years of searching) and temporarily retired my KG's because I was still "2-channel". Then, after a move in '05, I finally bought a 7.1 Yammie HT receiver. What to do, especially in my dinky apartment? Hook everything up, of course! The ChorusII front channel and the KG4's in the rear works great! Above about -15db on the Yammie's dial, the combination literally shakes the floor. Five appearances by the Korean National Police so far. Even though they were never intended to work together on the same system, they really complement each other well in my room. I stopped considering a subwoofer for this setup, one of my friends with 4 ForteII's tried and he lost bass! I've got plenty, just ask the cops! Might want a center channel someday, though. No rush. For me, going HT has NOT been a reason to part with my KG's, they aren't going anywhere! In your situation, where I would place the KG's would depend on what other KLIPSCH speakers you plan to use with them. For instance, if you picked up a cheap pair of KG2's, try the smaller speakers in the rear. If you invested in some Fortes or Chorus, move the KG4's to the rear.
  3. Only upgrade I've done to my ChorusII's so far has been the two 2uf tweeter caps, but it was definitely worthwhile. Used two pair of Mil-Spec 1% (US made) poly foil caps I bought off of ebay. Cramped but doable. Used "Shoe-Goo" (not for any particular reason) instead of hot melt to stabilize the install. I agree with the others here who have posted that the tweeter and midrange caps are the first place to attack in the CII crossover.
  4. I agree with Scoot, stay with Heresy's and if you need more bass, buy a Subwoofer. However, if you DO have the floorspace, bigger Heritage up front, i.e. Cornwalls, LaScalas or even Klipschorns and moving the Heresys to the rear should give you impressive HT! I'm using ChorusIIs up front and kg4s for the rear. My setup isn't supposed to sound good, but it does!
  5. Hi Michael! How ya doin' these days? Had a couple of visitors over, fired up the Klipsches for "Swimming with Sharks", for them. They were ne'erdowell's though. Oh, well, as long as the regular gf don't find out. I am close to the DMZ here, but the most dangerous thing about Korea these days is driving (or crossing) on the roads. Being a pedestrian ain't so safe either (did I mention that motorcycles use the sidewalks here!) I should make a streetscene video! I guess other than the backstabbing, cockblocking, doubledealing and general ingratitude from the locals (I'm not Korean) it ain't so bad! One nice (or not so nice) thing about this place is a bar or pub is never more than a short walk away. I could use a Long Island Ice Tea right now! Aw crap, I"m working!
  6. Thanks for being here for us, too, Michael! There are certainly worse ways to spend $7000!
  7. The Shining indeed. It ain't just Jack, it's Jack directed by the Maestro himself: Stanley Kubrick!
  8. Yamaha works, I have succeeded in procuring three appearances by the Korean National Police at my front door for "Turn Down!." Happy Birthday Michael, I'll send her right up! While we're OT, if a 20yo gal asks you for a pair of your "worn" boxer shorts, is that a sign she likes you? Just wondering.....
  9. I like my Yammie RXV-2400, even though I'm a Marantz fan.
  10. Operate and sometimes maintain a Biological Warfare warning system. Previously, for 20 years in the USAF, I fixed jet aircraft.
  11. Used a Marantz 2385 receiver with my system for a while, nice sound, authoratative bass. Realize it's a receiver, not an amp, but they made those, too. About $300.
  12. In addition to Dr. Dezibel's links, here's a link to some Marantz on Ebay Germany. If you don't have a German girlfriend yet, could be a good opening line... http://search.ebay.de/marantz_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8 When looking through these listings for something of interest to you, I noted that NONE of what I found openly sported 220 volt capability. Apparently, the Germans who've owned these pieces appreciated their sound enough to run them with a transformer. I was stationed in Germany 7 years myself, so I've got an idea what that can cost!
