Sure there is a Big Benefit to Bi-amping. I use a 45 SET tube Amplifier on the Mid Range and Tweeters and have 500 watt per channel amp on my Khorn Bass BIn. Without Bi-amping I would not have enough Oomph for my Bass and my Amplifier would clip... Choosing a less pleasing amplifier for my Oris Horns is not an option I would like to take, So, the Bi-amping has a HUGE Benefit for me.

Too many Variables to compare. ..... The difference between 3.5 watts and 35 watts is not as much as you would think... Then there is room size, Pre-amp, and listener preferences and on and on....

Just to be Clear .... the Tube Amp that you bought is NOT a SET amp..... A SET amp stands for Single Ended Triode .... Which is usually a 45, 2a3 or a 300b Tube.... Yours is powered by an EL84 Tube, which is a Pentode.... It is for sure a Step up from the NAD Receiver...... With that said a True SET amp would be even more of an improvement. I own all Configurations and the SET amp remains King. From your initial post I had thought you were purchasing a 2a3 SET amp (since it was 3.5 watts per channel)..... Which would have made the Fortes really sing.

I briefly looked at the Forte's Specs and it appears that they are 98db..... I think the 3.5 watt SET amp would work quite well actually. It would be probably be a large step up from the NAD receiver as well.

With Khorns the Shipping is the Main Problem.... I looked for a pair of Khorns for about 8 months - 13 years ago and none were available in my 7 state area. I'm from Minneapolis.... After 8 months a pair came along in Milwaukee about 6 hours each way. They were Oak and in Super Excellent Condition (Not a mar on them). I drove 12 hours round trip and paid $2500 for them.... If I wanted a pair today, and they were in Excellent Condition and Local, I would have no trouble paying $5 Grand for them... Maybe more.

Understand that I am not using a Klipschorn.... I am just using the Bass Bin of a Klipschorn. From another thread on this forum, the Khorn Bass bin can handle peaks of 600 watts... I rarely approach 95db in my listening room, but that alone does not necessarily eliminate the need for Power. I have had the 500 watt per channel Bass Amps on the Khorn Bass Bins for over 4 years, and that alone did not provide satisfactory Bass. And I never had a Problem with Bass 'Volume'... It was quality of Bass that my original post was about. I now have that Bass Quality that I was seeking, but it has been due to the removing of 'tweaks' that I had applied to the Bass Bins and nothing to do with the Electronics Involved.

I found a picture on the Klipsch site of what my TOP Hats basically look like. I just modeled a similar Plate to mount my Horns on.... You can see how the Top Hat extends further than the Vertical Back Plate... Mine is similar to the bottom Plate of the Top Hat.

Except that the sides of the Khorn Bass Bin hit the Walls first and prevent the Bass Bin from going any further into the corner, long before the pointed back. Even in your picture, you see that you have room for the pointed surface. And remember that my Khorn Bass Bins sound fine currently with the back piece. So, I'm not changing it now for sure!

Yes, I had to make the top of the Bass Bin, because remember, I do not have the TOP hat on which has the back piece to fit in the corner... But you may be on to something. The back piece of the TOP Hat also fits directly in the corner, and I modeled my 'Top Hat' exactly after that.

The vertical flat back plate can NOT be against the wall, because it is a corner.... So the corners of the flat back plate sit up against both side walls near the back... that is where I had the pipe insulation ---- you can see the gray stripes running down the sides of the tailboard and that is where the pipe insulation was.

When looking for Pictures of the Backs, I discovered some pictures of the Brackets that I put on my Khorns, that I attached the Backs to. So, I guess I am mistaken, I do not have Stock Bass Bins. I have added four Braces to each Khorn. Maybe I discovered a New Tweak after all???? So, I left the brackets on. They are solid Oak Strips. Anyway, I'm not changing nothin with the Bass, as they are the best they've sounded in 13 years !

Except the Crossovers were not changed at all..... Like I said, Maybe I had the Insulation on wrong ???? ... Removing the Plywood Backs on Bass Bins were also a Factor.... Anyway I'm back to Stock Khorn Bass Bins..... Using my own Crossovers - 1 Passive for the Midrange > Tweeter and 1 Active for the Woofer.

I do have Stock Khorn Bass Bins and the Orphean Oris Horn on Top. And it is bi-amped, but it is a 3 Way. It is a 3 way System..... The Oris Horn has a Compression Midrange Driver with a Coaxial Tweeter.... It uses a Passive Crossover from Oris. The Midrange goes from 270 Hz to 7K Hz and the Tweeter takes over from there. The Khorn Bass Bins are Powered by Hypex Bass Amps with a built in Active Crossover, that I have set at 270 Hz. So, I have 2 Crossovers, 1 Passive and 1 Active.

I have had Khorns for about 13 years now and have never really been satisfied with the Bass on them... I really only use the Khorn Bass Bins and when I first got the Khorns, I replaced the Khorn Midrange with Altec Multicell Horns. When I first got the Khorns I started tweaking the Bass Bins with Pipe Insulation on the Backs of them, so that they would 'seal' into the corners. Maybe I didn't do it right, but I was never satisfied with the Bass. About 5 years ago I upgraded to Oris Horns atop of my Khorn Bass Bins. Everything is pretty much Perfect with the Oris Horns, but the Bass was still not Doing it for me'. So, I installed Baltic Birch Plywood Backs on the Khorn Bass Bins.... Quite a Project.... Was not sure whether it helped or hurt. About a month ago, I decide to go back to the Stock Bass Bins and see what they sounded like, and then maybe start adding tweaks 1 at a time.... So I stripped off the Back Panels... The pipe insulation was already gone to facilitate the Back panels. I pushed the Khorn Bass Bins back into my Corners and fired up the tube Amps.... Holy Moly, I've got Bass Now !! Sat down and listened to a variety of Tracks and everything 'came to life'... Bass I had never heard out these Khorns before! .... I had 2 audiophile friends over and they were as blown away, as I was. I put on the Track of 'Fanfare for the common Man' by Copeland and we could not believe our ears. No need to add any tweaks or fool with the PWK Bass Design... I do have great corners with Solid Block walls one one side and 6 inch Thick MDF Panels on the other side to brace the corners....These are really quite perfect for me now.... Tweaks don't always make things better... Not for me anyway.

You can get a New pair of Oris Horns direct from the Manufacturer in the Netherlands..... That's where I bought mine. I don't understand why you can't Bi-amp now.... What would you do with an 8" driver? ?????

Joe, we have been down similar paths.... I have found Nirvana ... Still use a 45 SET, but Bi-amp with an 500 Watt/per channel Class D amps on my Khorn Bass Bins.... Oris Horns on the Top driven by 45 amps, or 2a3 or 300b .....

Yes, you repeated the Specs of the Entire Khorn, which I suspect the tweeter is the weak link in the chain. However, I was asking only about the Bass Bin and the 15 inch woofer. Please try again.

I am only using the KHorn Bass Bin with Oris Horns on the Top End. The Specs on the KHorn indicate that peak power is 400 Watts. But, I am guessing that the Limiting Component here would be the Tweeter and Mid-range. Does anyone here know what the peak power handling is for the Khorn Bass Bin itself? - No Crossover - Just hooked to the Bass Bin?
