  1. I actually admire the OP's persistence. That's what it takes to fix a problem like this. I went through a similar thing last fall that spanned about 2 weeks. I finally Killed all of the hum/noise from my system. (I had to, because I went to 114 db Horns). And the addition of 2 more Amps for Bi-amping. I dismantled my entire system, as well as all the electrical work behind the system. I routed one simple dedicated A/C line into a sub-panel. And then hooked all of my gear into 1 outlet via a much quieter Power Strip than I had before. I eliminated 100s of feet of interconnect by removing components that I never use any more (Tuners).... removed RCA interconnects to the TV in favor of Optical into the DAC. My system is as quiet as a mouse now, until those big Oris Horns Explode with a Full Orchestra. I never add anything to my system now, without a thorough evaluation of what noise I'm introducing. Don't give up. In the end it is worth it. You will succeed eventually.
  2. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the main solution to my Ground Loop Problem was to have both Monoblocks Plugged into the same outlet, not the same circuit. Even though I had a completely separate dedicated circuit. I would get a ground loop hum with the amps plugged into different outlets. All it takes is a couple milivolts of different potential between outlets and that is enough to magnify and pass it on to your speakers. The monoblocks were 12 feet apart, so what I did was run an extension cord to plug the other amp into the same outlet. Luckily I built cabinets along a wall where I could hide the cord under a false bottom of the cabinets. I'll attach a picture of my room, where you can see how far apart the Monoblocks are. The base of the wall cabinet is open for running cables etc.

  4. He joined yesterday and wants to buy my Altec Horns and Drivers. I get this feeling he might be from Nigeria. Shipping would be very expensive.
  5. Speakon connectors have a twistlock action. As long as the cable was terminated correctly in the Speakon, you would be good.Bruce Agreed, I meant less chance of pulling out than a Banana Plug.
  6. I used 5 way binding posts, as it is more standard connection. Also, as explained to me by a WBT salesman.. The best connector is no connector. So, you can take your speaker wire and connect it directly to the 5 way binding posts and eliminate 1 connector. Also it will have less chance of pulling out as the connector crimps down on the wire.I have done this in my system now, eliminating every connector that I can, in favor of sticking the copper wire directly to what I am connecting to.
  7. Altec Horn System – Transform your Klipschorns Complete Midrange Swap for Klipschorn. Biggest Improvement I made in Audio in over 30 years when I Installed these. $1700 Firm takes all. The Horns alone have been selling up around $1300 a pair on E-Bay, without the $500 Custom Paint Job these have. I have put a lot of Labor into this System. See this E-bay Listing for just the Horns, no Compression Drivers! Sold for $1381. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Altec-1005B-horns-mint-A5-parting-out-/141150480318?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item20dd3967be What’s included. Pair of Altec 1005b Horns with Throats and $500 Custom Paint Job from an award winning Custom Motorcycle Paint Shop. (Not a do it yourself Spray Job!) Mount the Altec Horns and Khorn Tweeter on a new board and tweeter frame. Then Hook up the Crossover and Plug in your Amp. Picture below (Before Horns were Painted Gold) showing how Stands support Driver and Horn. I am only selling this Altec System, because I have ‘upgraded’ to an Oris Horn System that cost me about $6 Grand. I happily lived with the Altec Horn Midrange for 8 years. I would prefer local pickup, as I do not have any shipping materials for this system. But if someone is willing to pay for Professional Packing and Shipping at a UPS store, I will ship to the U.S. or Canada. The Drivers are Massive weighing in at 30 pounds apiece! I am located in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area of Minnesota.
  8. SOLD !! --- NBS Linestage - No Phono Section $1500, plus shipping. Save a few hundred Bucks and get one immediately. I ordered this preamp last fall from Craig, when I was tracking down a noise issue in my system. I suspected that my Welborne Preamp was causing the extra hum. It turned out that I had a lot of ground loops, that I managed to cure. I was inclined to cancel my order, but did not want to put Craig out, as he had to order new front plates for the NBS for a Linestage only and No Phono Section. Craig has had enough problems in the last year and I did not want to add to them. Craig wanted me to audition this preamp in my system as long as I was getting it shipped to me. I received this preamp on Friday, March 14, 2014. I placed this ad on March 17, 2014. I spent the entire past weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday listening to the NBS, my Welborne and No preamp at all with just my DAC hooked directly to the amps. They all sounded great. Now that I have started Bi-amping the extra gain offered by a preamp is not needed in my system. And I only use my DAC as a source. The NBS went from the Box to on top of my Cabinet and back into the Box in one weekend. This is a great preamp, as the reviews have said. I simply don't need it.
  9. Wrong !..... Have you ever heard of Bi-Amping ? I have 600 watt per channel amps on my Bass Bins. And 1.8 watts of 45 SET amps on my Horns and Tweeters.
  10. If you could only Have One Tube Device, I would pick a SET tube Amplifier. I can run it without a preamp at all. However if you were to choose a tube preamp, you could not listen to music at all without an amplifier. I've seen plenty of system that run without a preamp, but none that run without an amplifier.
  11. Spotify is $120 a year. I used to spend 4X that on music. Now with SPotify my Music Library is over 20 Million tracks. The $10 a month also gets you a much better sound quality. I'm saving money. How much do you spend on music per year?
  12. $10 a month for basically unlimted music is pretty cheap. I belive that you also get higher quality streaming with Premium. And no Ads! I am starting to wonder how music artists will get paid for what they do with these streaming services.
  13. I like this suggestion, thanks! Free, OK quality, simple to join. Yes, if you don't mind poorer sound quality and Ads.
  14. Here are how many tracks each streaming service has. 1.) Spotify ------ 20,000,000 2.) Deezer ------ 20,000,000 3.) Last.FM ----- 18,000,000 4.) rdio ----- 18.000,000 5.) MOG ------ 16,000,000 6.) Grooveshark -- 15,000,000 7.) Slacker radio - 13,000,000 8.) Rhapsody ----- 11,000,000 9.) Pandora ------ 800,000
  15. I am like you dtel, I get tired of one artist and like the variety on Pandora. I guess there is Spotify, Mog and others to suit an individuals taste. Not hard to do with Spotify at all..... The audio quality of Pandora and Track selection is very poor.
  16. Was with MOG then Pandora and now trying Spotify. The first thing was what you said, I am use to the variety after having Pandora and don't want to hear just one artist or sit there and change it myself. Just started with it today so I guess I need to figure it out ? Not giving up Pandora yet, probably keep both around. Pandora does have better quality but only for businesses, home subscription quality is the same, kind of dumb. With a SB touch and Triode's custom Plugin with Spotify, it will do the 'variety thing' Just like MOG did it !
  17. I was also a MOG user and liked the interface with my SB Touch. There is a user named TRIODE that has created a custom Plugin for Spotify to the SB Touch with a lot of MOG like features. This is now what I use.
  18. Skip Pandora. Their Music Library has about 1 Million Tracks. Get Spotify, it has over 20 Million tracks. And most important to an Audiophile Pandora streams at 128 KBps. Spotify Streams at 320 KBPS. It is easy to hear the difference.
  19. Mostly it is exaggeration. I heard a few people I know say that a certain brand of beer 'sucks and is pisswater'. I've seen those same folks grab one iced out of a cooler on a hot day and quaff it with the greatest of joy. It's all relative.
  20. I also very much value your opinion Joe..... I know how much gear you've been through. I may have to try a pair of these. I know how good my Tektons sound and these are small enough to travel with!
