  1. Thanks, I may take you up on that.
  2. I can't get an OSD unless I hook up my monitor out on the receiver with a video cable to a video input on the tv. I don't think that this is right especially if you can access the osd through any component. Also, what are the pros/cons of not running and not running the video through the receiver (audio only). Fewer cords, easier hookup? I'm pretty new at this stuff and want to hear both sides.
  3. I finally got my new Pioneer Elite VSX-47TX. I had a Denon Avr 3803, but it was defective. I see now how much video upconversion means. It was a big help with the Denon. I'm not sure I like the Pioneer yet. I am having problems getting everything hooked up. My DVD, VCR and TV works, but I dont know if it is just right. I would appreciate any PATIENT person to read this and give advice: Receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX-47TX TV: Hitachi 43in. with 2 component inputs, 2 standard a/v inputs, 1 monitor out with s video and standard a/v output, and a separate place to hook up audio the TV DVD: 1 component, 1 s-video, 1 coax., 1 opt, and standard a/v in and out. VCR: Standard A/V in and out. Cable Box: Standard Audio in and Standard A/V out. Everything works, but when watching TV, I have to crank up the volume on the receiver to +10 to hear it , but there is alot of hissing. Also, I have to switch to a separate input to access the onscreen display no matter if I am watching tv,dvd or vhs. With the Denon, no matter what I was watching, the OSD was available at the pust of one button on the receiver's remote. Not so with the Pioneer. Also, I dont think the Pioneer will memorize my favorite speaker settings for each of the different modes. Any advice is welcome.
  4. Well, I did it. I ordered the 47TX. Here is the full story. I got one of the first Denon AVR 3803s off the dock. I received it on 11/15 at my home and paid 1099 for it. I liked it for the 2 weeks UNTIL.... something happened to the decoding. I talked to Denon told them the problems that I was having and they agreed that it was defective. I called the online dealer that I bought it from. They went over the same stuff trying to tell me that I had it setup wrong, then they offered me a new one. I thought that was great. They told me to package it up and they would send for a pickup from UPSin a couple of days and send me a new one when they received the defective one. Eagerly I packaged it up and put it in the corner of the room where it sat for 3 weeks. I called every other day for those 4 weeks and they told me "in a couple of days". Finally after talking to someone else, they picked it up on Christmas Eve. (After the first 2 weeks I told them to charge me for a new one, credit my account later and send it to me so I could have it b4 Christmas. Its been over 2 weeks since I ordered the other Denon 3803 and I still havent gotten it. I call them and they tell me that it is now on backorder. So.... here we are today. I created this post yesterday because I decided I didn't want to wait on another Denon that could possibly be defective. I started looking at the 4802, but the Elite series caught my eye. I read about the acoustic calibration and so on. After reading some of the previous replies to my post, I did decide to get the 49tx. I called a different dealer and got a price on the 47, 49 and 49TXi. Then I called the dealer I got my receiver from and got a price. At first he was higher. I asked if he would match and he said yes if it is an "Authorized Dealer", I said yes and told him $2799 for TXi and $1850 for the 47TX at the other place, and he started backing down. Then he put me on hold and came back to tell me he was out of stock on the 49 and the 49txi, but he could sell me the 47tx for 1850 plus 30.00 for shipping. He told me that it would be a longer wait for the pioneer than the denon if I wanted the 49. So, I decided to save a little cash and get the 47 and have it by monday. I really wanted the 49txi, but I will settle for the 47. I hope that I have not made a mistake by not going back with the Denon. The 3803 has video upconversion. I dont think the 47tx has it, but is it really that big a deal?? Thanks to all for the replies.
  5. Of these two receivers, which is better? 1. Pioneer Elite VSX47TX 2. Denon AVR 4802 Any replies welcome. Other brands in the same price range?
  6. Hey guys, I really appreciate all the replies. You have all been a great help. However, the guys from Denon and I have come to the conclusion that I have a defective receiver. Evidently, the receiver is not detecting DD 5.1 or DTS when I put the different disks in. I tried several different disks and nothing. The salesman at 6ave.com was very helpful and is going to replace the receiver at no cost to me for the shipping. He even offered me a different brand receiver if I wanted it. The Denon has an indicator light on the front that detects DD, another that detects DTS. The only down to the whole thing is that I will be without a receiver for about 2 weeks. Thanks again for all the help.
  7. This may be a dumb question (Im new to this stuff)but how do I turn the PL off?
  8. OK, you said the PLII was for 2 channel only. I have had the system for 2 weeks and I have been watching all movies in Dolby PLII Cinema surround mode. I have been getting plenty of bass. Now when I play dvds I get no bass, in this mode. I have changed no settings. I thought this setting sounded best for dvd. My sub is enabled in all modes. It is almost like my receiver is not sending any signal to the sub. The red indicator light on the sub stays on now when previously it turned green when playing dvds in this mode. What channel do you watch movies in?
  9. Well, I put in Star Wars with DD Pro Logic II---nothing. Put in DMX in the same DVD player in DD pro logic--nothing. Then switch to pure direct on my receiver and BOOM! I am picking Christmas ornaments up out of the floor from all the bass??? If I change channels to Stereo in the DVD while playing the movie, I get bass. Go figure.
  10. Yesterday I was giving a demo of my new home theater system and something sounded strange. I am not getting any sound out of my sub. I have RF3-II complete system with RSW-12 sub. I have a Denon AVR 3803 receiver. I get sound with test tones, but when I was showing my neighbor what he had been hearing, nothing. The "Arena" scene in Star Wars Episode II when all the creatures were trying to kill the Jedi, no bass. Pleas help if you can. I have power at the sub, and all connections are correct. It was working fine 2 days ago with very deep bass.
  11. Are most of you who bi-wire their front speakers also bi-wiring the CC? I have been to several stores today and several websites, and I am having problems finding a Monster M Series biwire for the CC. They show it on the website, but nobody has it in stock, they have to order it. Will the CC being bi-wired really make a noticeable difference.
  12. Call me stupid, or whatever else, (I'm willing to take it for now!), but what is bi-wire. I think I know, but lemme hear it to confirm. I have DVD, VHS, and will add receiver and speakers when they come in. What do I need? 1. Speaker wire--At least 16 or 14 ga. (for fl,fr, cc, ls,rs. 2. Wire for RSW-12 (is it same as above? or does it require a special wire--Monster Cable I201 8 Meter or Monster Cable MSB550SW 18 Feet, etc. 3. Do I hook up my dvd and vcr to the receiver (if so, what types of cables are necessary) 4. Or do I only hook up the receiver to the tv? Again, I apologize for the stupidity (I'm just new). My speakers will be here tomorrow (Tuesday), not sure about my receiver. It is supposed to be here sometime this week. I just want to get as much wiring and cable buying out of the way as I can so that I will be able to concentrate on getting everything hooked up when it comes in and not running to Bestbuy, every couple of hours. Thanks for all the replies and thanks ahead for future replies!
  13. Yes, the whole 9 yards. RF-3II, RS-3II, RC-3II, and RSW-12 to top it off. Also, what are some good wall mounting brackets for the RS-3s? Or do I need to build some small shelves?
  14. I have ordered my Klipsch RF-3 home theater package and I have pre-ordered my Denon avr 3803. Now, I need help from you A/V gurus. I have a dvd, vcr, and a big screen tv. What is the best way to hook all this stuff up? Any suggestions welcome. (I am new to this AV stuff) I currently use component video for dvd and standard a/v for vcr. I got the Denon for 1099. Most places are asking 1199. is this ok? Thanks, Spin
  15. Thanks guys, I just like the way the 3802 sounded with the RF-3 setup and thats all I have to go on. I am certain that all the above mentioned brands are very good, but I will have to go with what I have heard with theRF-3s.
