If you have to do it in steps due to budget constraints, I would go: 1) front L/Rspeakers (sell the advents to add to the system budget) 2) subwoofer 3) receiver* 4) Bluray player 5) amp for the main speakers. * The sub and receiver could be switched depending on your current receiver's capabilities. If your receiver has a sub out, then I would do the sub first. If it doesn't then maybe do the receiver first or use the speaker connections of the subwoofer until you can get a better receiver. The good thing is you could probably save money by going with a used receiver that's a year or two old to maximize on your budget and still get the features a brand new receiver would have. Even though you didn't mention movie usuage, I mentioned a Bluray player for CD playback plus (obviously) tons of concerts on DVD and Bluray you can enjoy on the new rig as it nears completion. (Like completion ever happens in this hobby LOL!) Hope this helps.

They are very tight on my KG2.5/1.5 speakers. I liked the Silver back much better. They have two set screws in the plug end and you don't have to have the barrel on the plug first. The barrel slides over the plug and then screws in place. If you need a bunch of bananas, the same style is sold on eBay but with Nakamichi labels on the barrels. Another vote for Monoprice. I don't believe in all the mystical voodoo with items like cables and such from brands like Monster. I've bought various connectors, HDMI, and speaker cable from Monoprice and have been very pleased with them.

I have to agree with the above post. I had a pair of KG5.5 and got to demo some H3s a few years ago. The only thing my KGs had was a lower extension, but we all know midrange is where the music's at and the Heresys more than excelled in that department.

I haven't had the chance to compare the newer Synergy line to the newer Reference line, but if they are anything like theri predecessors.... I would much prefer a bookshelf from the Reference line over a tower from the Synergy line as the Reference speakers are going to be more refined due to the better parts used in them. This isn't to say the Synergy line is junk, but that the Reference line is just better. With that said, how about a different option for the Reference setup. Instead of option 2 (US dollars shown): RF41 II - $600pr RC-42 II - $250 RS- 42 II - $580/pr SW-308 sub - $850 total $2280 Option 3: RB-81 II - $425/ea (x2) $850 RB-61 II $550/pr SW-308 sub - $850 total 2250 Then as budget allows, you could add either another RB-81 II (prefered) or the RC-62 II center speaker for the center channel. Another one would be, if you're settled on towers, a pair of RF-82 II ($1200) and the same sub, and just build it as you go. That would actually be the route I would take if it were me, but my system use is 90% music.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I might ask him if that $180 includes the shipping. If not, then I'll just look elsewhere as I'm not in any dire need for a set. I live just outside of Chattanooga, so local sales are scarce to none on the KG line. I also found a pair of 1.5s from a guy on eBay. He wanted $270 for them, plus $35 to ship. He wouldn't budge on the price when asked stating they were brand new in the box. I replied 17 years old and no warranty won't matter. That was about 2 weeks ago but I told him to PM me if they didn't sell (which they won't). I appreciate the help fellas. I do have a pair of KG4.5s in storage, but one of the woofers is shot and I haven't had any luck finding a new set (Klipsch says they are discontinued). That would be my cheapest, and prefered, route to getting back to 7.1 if I could do it. EDIT: I offered him $150 and free shipping. If he agrees, great. If not, that's good too.

Right now, I have a 5.1 setup. Three KG2.5 for the front and a pair of KG1.5 for the rears, all in light oak. I have a chance at (what looks to be) a nice set of KG3.5 towers also in light oak for about $180. I'm guessing I'll have about $280 after you figure in shipping. What do you all think? Are they worth considering? I originally thought of going with another set of 2.5s or 1.5 to expand to 7.1, but the 3.5 have me thinking, so I thought I would ask for some opinions before I jumped.

I use a Squeezebox in my setup. Actually, I have two of them. One in the HT and one in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I have two eSATA drives I use soley for my music collection and all of it is ripped to Flac.

It should. I have two Squeezebox Classics. One of them has the Controller from the Duet set (I had bought them used). My phone, an EVO, saw both of them and also saw the Controller as a third player. As far as the little black display-less receivers go from the Duet, I think you still have to have the Controller to configure it since the display is on the remote. After that, they should be no different from the Touch, Classic, and other display based players.

Hi all. I'm thinking about bidding on a pair of KG 1s on Ebay. They look to be in prime condition and are in the light oak finish. Can anyone tell me what the resale value of these speakers are? I don't want to spend too much. I was thinking maybe $100 tops (which includes the $30 to ship them), but I wanted to check here to be sure. Thanks everyone. Hope you all have been doing good.

What do you all think of Dynaco? I have thought about getting a used ST-70 for my KGs.

What about an Academy? I see them on Ebay from time to time too. I always thought that was the best speakers for the Fortes, Chorus, etc.

Here's something to try. If you think your RC-7 is too bright compared to your KLF-20s, then let the 20s play the center channel info (aka a phantom center) I have KG5.5s for my mains and had a KV-2 center. A mis-match like yours, except reversed. My center seemed too dull compared to my mains. I ran my system without a center until I was able to use the right center for them. I toed them in for a better effect, but since I'm usually the only one using the HT, the issue of a small sweet spot was a non-factor. Try running your system without a center and see what you think. It will cost you no money and if you do like it better without the RC-7, then it will get you by until you can score on a used KLF-C7 center speaker. Good luck.

I'm more of a wood kinda guy myself too, but they are still some very nice looking speakers. I think it's just the first time I have seen a piano black finish on Klipschs before (sorry, I don't get out much). I'm used to seeing that finish on Definitive's speakers. Appreciate the pics.

.....What about the rumours of the new line that's supposed to compete with the B&W 800 Series and Paradigm's Signature Series? I could have sworn it was going to be called the Premier line (or something similiar) and that I read that here. So is this also true, or is it just hear say?
