  1. I was excited that someone was testing the same time as me.I figured we could bounce ideas off each other. No biggie.Ill figure it out for myself.Gary thanks for the tips.
  2. Ok gary I will try that on sunday. What does it do on the bottom end?I put a pretty hefty "shelf" on the bottom and seems like it wants abit more. And as claude said,Im curious to see what moving the mic forward and around some does.1 other thing I do want to try is to put the EQ in between my dac and preamp instead of thru the tape loop like it is now.I wonder how much its degrading the sound that way.
  3. Gary, thanks for the tips. The rolloff on the topend is kinda just where it landed. All I did was take any lumps and bumps out of it.I will try again next sunday to kick it up some like you suggested.I did have to turn up the bass tone slider abit,so I think I may put more of a "shelf" in the bottom end.And yes,the next upgrades are going to be the room.I agree it does need some panels at the early reflection points. And now that I have REW running,I can see the changes which is cool.Is there anywhere around the net that has the audyssey curves posted?Or are they top secret to them....lol.I would be curious to see what each setting does.Overall its getting better each weekend I adjust it.Its just hard to find the time when no-one is here not to be interupted.Again thanks for all the input. Jeff
  4. I don't want to hi-jack canyonmans thread here, but here are some shots from today. My sub is only connected for HT use,not 2 channel where the sweeps are taken. The room is 18wx28dx7h.Khorns on 18' wall.I do not have tone controls on the aragon preamp,so it is interesting how flat and lifeless the music sounded before. This is some learning curve as to what measures right and what "sounds" right.I wish I had more time today to test, but everyone is home now and the house is no longer quiet enough.Let me know what you think guys. Thanks again.
  5. What great timing! I just started doing this myself last weekend.Im using a Rane DEQ-60 to make adjustments. This was my first pass at it,I am going to try and find some time tomorrow to tune it some more.It is alittle light in the bass department,so I think I need to curve the bass end up some. Both of these attachments are 1/3 octave smoothed.Any and all comments welcomed as this is another learning curve. Jeff
  6. Don you might want to contact Rick Cullen. He made all of the genesis equipment for paul. His phone # is Cullen Circuits 805-237-2113 ask for Rick Cullen.I hope you get it fixed,,its a beast!
  7. I also have an aragon 8008BB with an aragon 28k preamp driving my khorns thru 12 gauge house romex wire.I listen to LOUD rock and a cheesy reciever or a tube amp with a few watts just would not cut it here. The aragon stuff runs pure class A for the first 25 watts or so,it will be a fine match. The front end of the source is important as to not introduce any noise.Get a good cd player or transport and you will be in fine shape.Good luck...Jeff
  8. I agree with kelly,,those monster IC are garbage. And yes,,solid core still seems to sound the best so far.Try some Tice-Audio cables like I did.You will never go back to monsters again.
  9. Rudy,,I have some top shelf SS gear and I think it sounds fantastic! The marantz may be better off left for home theatre use.I tryed that years ago with a marantz av-600 and an adcom amp.Great for movies,,but 2 channel was kinda harsh and gritty.I think its very true that you need quiet gear feeding the horns for best sound.Good luck
  10. You are correct dbflash,,solid core is the way to go with SS.For any 1 interested,,try some 12 gauge romex,,yes I said romex wire. The same wire thats inside the walls of the house. It powers my K-horns very nicely. When I swapped speakers from my Bostons,,I wasnt about to cut up a set of Tice cables that george himself made for me in a bi-wire.The tops of the bostons are about 3 feet taller,,so a custom wire was needed. It was late sunday evening,,and I wanted to hear the K-horns.The romex wire was teh only thing I had long enough at the time.To me it sounds great.Oh BTW,,stay away from that monster crap. Those wires are good for hooking up the vcr,,thats about it.You can do alot better for the money nowadays in regards to cables.Good luck,,Jeff
  11. Mobile homeless,,thats exactly how I have it set up.2 different systems,,1 is 2 channel audio with the high-end goodies,,the other is a marantz av-600 preamp with an adcom gfa-7000 to handle the other 3 channels.I did try years ago to use the av-600 to do it all,,but its no high grade enough for clean music.I have the av-600 chained in from a set of rca's to my aragon preamp when I want to watch tv.Only downside is getting the 2 volumes balanced correctly. Its not perfect,,but it works.Jeff
  12. Hi guys.Im not disputing how great tubes can sound with horns,,its just I've spend alot of time and money in the gear that I currently own.I dont think you can compare the aragon to some cheesy yamaha or nakimachi circuit city reciever. Its night and day on electronics.Right now Im just enjoying the new found sound of these bad boyz.Yes the aragon may be way too overpowered,,but the rest of my front end is first class.I think that keeping the noise floor down is the key,as teh horns will reveal all of it.I have done the foam stripping to the wall,,and snipped both diodes also takin the screw out from the tweeter coil.Seems to have tweaked up the top end abit.A nice winter project will be building al's crossovers. Thanks for all the input,,great to have a nice group here for help and ideas.Jeff
  13. Hey jeff.I saw a few of your posts.Your in nassau county.Im in smithtown. Some cold weekend when theres nothing else to do,,come on by and take a listen.Ive spend years upgrading the electronics looking for that slice of heaven. Its just most other speakers just dont have any guts to em.I almost upgraded to some classe` gear,,lookin at 600 watts a channel. The khorn way was WAY cheaper and gave me the rock and roll sound that I never had.It does seem that they like very good gear,,not some "bestbuy" reciever. Now that its cold out,,I will be inside tweaking these bad boyz. Now im also thinking about swapping out my rears for klipschs also.Anyhow,,the door is open,,anytime you want to stop in,,drop me an email.Jeff
