  1. The thing is I never intended on keeping it. I had an excellent pre/pro (Aragon Stage One) prior to buying the Outlaw. What made the experience bad was I never expected to be out of $280 (Taxes/duty) since I intended to return it before the 30 days evaluation period. As for sonic quality, everyone has their own taste, you will have to check for yourself.
  2. I bought it just for curiosity, because I heard a lot about Outlaw and wanted to check for myself. However, since I'm in Canada I had to pay customs/taxes ($280). Plus, I was away for 2 weeks and failed to return it on time.
  3. My Outlaw 990 pre/pro is on sale on ebay. See link below. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5830682067&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Note: Canadians avoid taxes and customs. I'm open to trade. I need another pair of RF7 or another RSW15.
  4. Thank you all for the excellent advices. While I clearly believe the SVS is the superior sub for movies, but for music I think the RSW-15 may be the better option. Every audio equipments in my home theater room are made by Klipsch, while I'm really tempted by the SVS sub based on the comments here, but I'll stay with Klipsch.
  5. Please, advise. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Klipsch RSW15, but need some advices on whether the SVS PB12 +2 is a better solution or not. I currently own the Klipsch RW-12 which is an excellent sub, but I need a more powerfull sub to match the RF7. Music 90% Movies10% See my system specs. Thanks,
  6. How much? and where are you located?

I was in a pawn shop in Southern Ontario on the weekend and there's two pairs of cherry RF-7's still new in the boxes. The sales associate said they were liquidation stock from a local dealership and they had to clear a two week time frame before they could be sold. The asking price is going to be $1800 Canadian but I imagine there would be a dicker factor. Anyhow, if anyone is interested, email me and I'll send you the contact info. I have no affiliation with the seller. hamish ---------------- Myhamish, I'm in Ottawa, and I'm interested. Regards,

  9. The following is even worse Listed Actual MARANTZ SR7200 105w x 6 -> 29 (27 x6)
  10. I have been using an HTPC for about two years now, and I can say I'm very satisfied with the results. Another good place to look is: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=11
  11. Use a receiver with preamp outs or use the Creative DDTS-100.
  12. You can't go wrong with either. But, if you have the space, I'll suggest the Aragon 2002 + 2005 instead of the 2007. These 2 amps are excellent.
  13. I received the 990 processor yesterday, I just finished setting it up, and I must say I 'm not impressed. The thing sounds like an FM radio station compared to my Harman Kardon 525 receiver. I'm really disappointed, I should have suspected it. I posted many topics before ordered the thing asking for info on the musicality of this thing, no one on the Outlaw forum or other forums can give me a direct answer. Then, I read the review from one idiot claiming that the thing sounds better than his Lexicon MC1. (#!#@*!#! what a big fat lie!). It will cost me another $60 returning the thing back + I won't get back the extra 3% my credit card charged me to do the USD/CND conversion, plus I'm wondering whether I will get the $280 (UPS Custom charge +GST/PST) the Canadian customs charged me. First, I noticed, the HK volume range is around -76dB to +10dB the 990 is -76dB to +8dB. With the HK in stereo my volume level is usually set to -35dB (-28dB for moderate listening). With the 990 even at -19dB the thing is nowhere near the level the HK(-28dB) put out. Second, the subwoofer output (With the tone->bass set to +6) compared to the HK is not even half of the HK bass output. Third, the sound is so flat compared to the HK525 even in the upsample mode. Fourth, this thing for a pre/pro is huge. It is almost twice the size of my HK 525 receiver, but only weights a third the weight of the HK. I won't call the $1100 price tag a rip off but it does not worth that much if you take into account an HK 635 can be bought for around $700. The only things I like about this unit are the Auto setup feature, and the easy setup. Remote control is also good. Anyone who really thinks of putting this thing in the same league with the Anthem, Lexicon or for god sake a high end receiver such as HK needs some real professional help.
  14. Thanks Q-MAN, Actually, I'm in the market for a major processor upgrade. But,I need something to get by until the new sound processing formats come out. If it sounds decent enough I'll keep it for a year, if not I'll send it back at the end of the 30 Days. I love how HK sounds with Klipsch, I'm leaning toward Lexicon, but the price of a lexicon processor here in Canada is outrageous.

I read a lot of good stuff about this Pre/Pro but still a bit skeptical. Q-MAN, I've been reading posts on almost every forums regarding the 990. I posted a few topics on the AVS, Outlaw forums as well, hoping to get some feedbacks before deciding to buy it.
  16. I ordered one as well. It shipped yesterday and should receive it on Monday, but won't have time to play with it until next Friday. Hopefully, it'll sound better than my HK AVR525
  17. I got an email from Outlaw yesterday, regarding ordering the outlaw 990. They gave me up to Friday to decide whether I want to order it. But, I'm still hesitant on buying it. I can find no real reviews on this unit. Did anyone heard this unit? How does it compare to a high end receiver such as HK in respect to stereo and multi ch music? I know it is just $1100, after calculating shipping and the Canadian government protection money (A.K.A Taxes) it will be around $2000CAD. If I don't like and decide to return it, I will lose close to $200CAD in shipping cost. Is this unit worth the hassle? Thanks,
  18. ------ Hi Pythagore, I was in a similiar boat you are in now. I wanted a HT preamp that delivered great 2 or 5.1 channel audiophile music. I auditioned all the preamps you have looked at along with the Bryston SP1.7. After listening to the Bryston SP1.7 (5000 CAD) my search was over. This is definitely the best 2 or 5.1-channel preamp of the group due to its analog circuitry in bypass mode. Here is a link to the Bryston website which describes it all: http://www.bryston.ca/sp17_m.html If you would like to hear the SP1.7 with RF-7's, we can arrange a visit. ----------------------------------- Hi GorgeV, Are you in Ottawa? My dealer does not have the Bryston in stock, but told me that he can order it for me. He is trying to sell me a Lexicon MC8. But I wanted to make sure to buy the best. While the Logic7 processing is tempting, but I want to listen to as much as I can before buying.
  19. As mentioned before, use the Denon as pre/pro and buy a 3 channels amp. Then, if you don't like the sound then you can keep the amp and invest in a real pre/pro. The Aragon 2005 (200W/CH-8Ohms, 300W-4Ohms, 3 channels driven) is an excellent amp for the price.
  20. I'm 80% music and 20% movies I like to listen to music in multi-channel mode. I'm currently using a computer connected to my AVR via SPDIF for MP3/CD (Player:Winamp-Asio-Mad 24bit, Encoded:VBR 224-320Kbps) playback. Analog out of soundcard connected to the 8CH direct inputs of receiver for DVD-Audio playback. The HK avr525 with the logic 7 (music) so far is great, but I think I can do better.
  21. Now, that I have serious power to drive my RF7, all I need now is a good Pre/Pro. I'm considering the Anthem, Stage one and the Arcam AV8, Lexicon MC4 In Ottawa Canada: Stage One $4080 CAD (Floor Demo) Lexicon MC4 $7000 CAD Anthem AVM30 $3500 CAD Arcam Av8 ? I just bought 2 Aragon amps from the Dealer, he said he can sell me the Stage one for $3900. But I really need the DolBy Prologic IIx which the Stage one does not have. I listened to the Stage one and it sounded amazing. What do you guys think?
  22. Hi Jimmy, I notice that you are using the Outlaw 950/7700 with you RF7. Do they blend well with the RF7? I'm really considering the Outlaw 990/770 combo, but I can find any real review on it.
  23. Since space is an issue and women usually don't like big speakers, the Reference sattelites may not be a bad choice. 2 RSX-5 for the Front, 2 RSX-4 for the Back and one RCX4 for center, and you have money left for a RW8 sub. Actually there is ebay auction going on for 4RSX-4 and one RCX4.
  24. Bobby, have a look at this thread regarding the 990 Vs the Lexicon MC-1. http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=234591 At the same price, the 990 is by far a better deal.
