  1. D-Man, I believe you nailed it. I knew that periodically that very maintenance you said needed to be done. I admit it had not been performed reguarly with that system setup. The reason I am considering a network upgrade is these are old, I have a little spare cash, I really like these speakers, can they be made to sound better! Thank you
  2. I stand corrected, the networks in my Belles are AA. Last night 1st test was to reverse the left / right on the back of the receiver. WTF, both channels sound fine, sure didn't expect that. Listened to couple of tunes, no problems, even had my wife listen and she didn't notice any difference. Had even reset the balance to center. Had my wife switch receiver between stereo and mono and see if she could tell difference in speaker output, no problems detected. She did say she liked the stereo sound better (duh). Ok so I switched the speaker connections on the back of the receiver back to correct left / right and listened again, I couldn't hear the same issue I had heard the other night. I likely will replace the networks with newer after winter holiday. Thanks to all that replied p.s. just found interesting thread, "rebuild AA's or upgrade". kind of sounds where I am heading.
  3. I will know more this weekend when I have block of time to really check this out. I will post what I find out. I was listening to Revolver at moderate volume when the difference really jumped at me, thought at first it was because of what was done with "stereo" imaging back in the early days of stereo. But did enough to determine that that wasn't it. I dont think room placement has much to do with difference, as they are pretty much placed simetrically (spelling i know) in the room. This might have been coming on gradually, as I notice that I have the balance on the receiver favoring the weak side. (note that when I switched to mono the sound output was still weaker in the one side (No I still have not ruled out ill performing receiver, but I will be checking that out this weekend)) I had the receiver serviced a year or so ago in Knoxville for left channel signal dropout (to zero), had forgot about this, so this will definately have to be considered. One speaker just doesn't seem to have the same output volume level as the other speaker. But the lower frequencies don't seem to have the same diminished output level. I am definately hearing good (but diminished) signal (compared with other speaker) from the one speakers mid and tweet (from what I can tell) by getting close to drivers playing at much lower level than the moderate level they were at when I was just listening. Also to be considered are the 49 year old ears I am testing them with, but I think the ears are working adequately as I don't notice the same effect when listening to the (1983) k-horns in the other room. Thanks for the input all, I am looking forward to having these speakers back to full operation soon.
  4. Thanks Richard, Great idea, I hadn't thought to try to move the networks from one speaker to another.
  5. thanks for the reply, Al. Have your web sight up and was looking at your networks. How long do these origianl networks last? Though I could (frequently am) and probably are mistaken, I thought I had noticed that they had AK networks in them when I first got them. I will look again tonight when I spend a long time with them trying to determine what I am or possibly am not hearing. Thanks again.
  6. Last night I noticed that the Belle on the left side didn't sound as good as the other (though bass sounds fine), I switched receiver to mono to see if that would produce same sound from both, still left side sounded a bit down. I tried to "ear" test the left speaker to determine if all drivers were working, from what I can tell all drivers are producing (just not like the right side). Tonight I am going to disconnect the speaker wires from the receiver and swap sides. If that doesn't resolve the problem (or identify the receiver as the problem) I am going to the look at the original AK x-overs (but they are 33 years old) and loosen and retightn connections. Any other things I can do to assist in determining where the problem lies? btw I am not an electrical engineer, so don't get to deep with this please.
  7. thet would match my heresy's and belles, but wouldnt match my khorns. I sure wish I knew what finish they were ... Long time ago i sent Trey the serial numbers and he said the were built on 4-19-83 , C modles birch raw, sold to Imperial sound, they were 2 of 4 units built that day , but obviosly something is amiss as they are "B" model (has riser) and a lighter color finish on the veneer than walnut. I am mainly looking for center channel(s) to use between the khorns (heresey surrounds) in ht setup ... I am using the belles in the den on a stereo setup.
  8. I still watch this forum, been a while since I have been on. I am thinking that I will go take a look at these too. Bill, I don't want to step on you toes though. I would like to add some cornwalls to my collection. I am just not so sure that the finish on these is what I want but I sure can't complain about the price and being local doesn't hurt either.
  9. Just a follow up. I am so pleased with the Khorns I can't even begin to describe. I still have the 901's, they aren't being used as speakers though, have a cloth over the two of them. They are serving as lamp stands in the den (the belle's are doing two channel duty in that room). Perhaps some day I will set up another two channel in the basement and move the 901's down there. Many thanks to all on this forum and for all of the information I have gained.
  10. dkp may have a cable internet conection. I think then he could get the "Broadband telephone service" without maintaining a Local Bell land line, or other source (wireless) of number. Though he was concerned about keeping his number, I am not familiar with local issues that would inhibit the resolution of this matter.
  11. Thanks, no problems connecting to Pc, just had concerns about placing SS receiver on top of speaker. I will get some material for vibration isolation for under receiver, sounds like it should be ok. Thanks
  12. In my little home office (ok unused bedroom) I am connecting my PC to an old receiver so I can play cd's etc, about the only place I have to put this old receiver is on top of an old speaker that will be driven by this old receiver. Questions is I am going to harm either, I'm kind of old now and partial to old things, so I wouldn't want to damage either one. Thanks
  13. O well just another $1K+++ plus I can keep in my pocket.
  14. Good2 and Gilbert, I've been watching these for a few days also. Been working on the SO and have a green light. PM me if you like.
  15. Whoa!! Back up the Boat!! Did someone say soemthing about Heritage line for sale in Tulsa!! I might be interested if that's the case.
  16. Just wondering how the mid 70's Yamaha CR x00 line stacked up with the HK x30 line. Anyone currently using the Yamaha CR x00 with the Heritage line?
  17. What material are the surrounds you are planning on treating. I have some older speakers that are in good condition with what appears to be butyl surrounds and wondering if they need to be treated. Nothing was ever said when I purchased them and the company is now out of business.
  18. Trey, Would you mind, The labels were missing when I purchased them last June so I have no idea about finish (though I would gues oak). 20y414 & 20y415. Thanks
  19. I was ging to bid, but these got a little over my budget. Haven't seen heresy's go this high. What's so special about this pair? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3091514809&category=61378&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1
  20. Wow, had no idea Belles were so sought after. I knew they didn't come up often. That long drive I made for this matched pair wasn't so bad in hindsight. (sorry only one is pictured).
  21. Thanks for the information. I will likely go the multiple MC250 route as I have one of those already and they seem to be going for about $300 each now, will be a little less $ than a olaw750. just need to pick up a couple more and then a pre/pro.
  22. Deciding what to replace my current HT receiver with ... Not going to get a chance to A/B this setup so if anyone has I would appreciate your input. Would also be needing to get pre/pro and likely leaning towards Olaw 950. WAF would probably prefer Olaw 1050 but I can take the heat.
