  1. Not sure how many of the old crowd is still here, but I need a 9" tonearm and this was always a place to get friendly deals.  A like the Jelco 750 / Sumiko MMT (already have one on a table), but I am interested in others as well.  Just needs to be around 9" to fit the table (an Empire 398).

What do you have?  Feel free to PM, but post in this thread PM sent as I am not here very often anymore.

    Thanks.

An older unit, so probably does not measure that well by today standards. However, I took it because of the functionalities. It has a nice combination of analog and digital connectivity, a good headphone amp, and is a nice preamplifier. The only thing missing on my list are balanced connectors.

Nice, I am a big fan of Musical Fidelity gear.  I have an older similar piece that also includes a CD player and an ADC with the DAC.  Great unit.

Oppo 203 (or a 205 if you really need a dac), the Reavon or Jay's Audio (if you dont need video)

What is the advantage of the 203 / 205 over the 105 if you do not use for movies?  I know the DAC is supposed to be better but mine sounds great on some very revealing speakers.,

Here is the flavor of the month.  That is not necessarily a bad thing as the Benchamrk DAC1 was a FOTM when it came out.

Well below your budget and getting great reviews everywhere.  The screen and meters are quite nice to look at.  I like that you can add a cheap SSD and load it up with your music too.  No NAS needed.

Google it and you will see the reviews.  Here is the Steve Huff review.

I'm thinking of replacing my old CD player for 2-channel audio.

Been looking into dedicated audio CD player (entry class - Marantz 6007 etc), and then there is an option to get universal players that play many other formats including blu-ray (i.e. Panasonic DP-UB820EG-K, which is the same price category).

I see many forum members having such players (and not specifying CD players in their signatures). A few years ago Oppo was one of many good choices but now it is gone.

I like an option to play blu-rays and video, and IF 2-channel audio would not suffer I would opt going that route.

    Any advice on that?

I bought an OPPO BDP 105D in silver.  Love it so much I bought an OPPO 105 in Black.  They are out there and do so much, CD player, DVD, DAC and streamer from a NAS or memory stick.

What Musical Fidelity unit do you have?

I have a pair of Heresy that I am rebuilding and the wood needs some patch work what do I use to get it as close as I can to oil oak so it blends in

I had some oak speakers that had chips in the veneer.  Forte's have nice thick veneer.  Get some scrap oak (very little is all that is needed) and cut with a razor into thin pieces that are thicker than the space to be filled.  You may need to soak it.

Cut the pieces to size but a little thick and glue in place,  then sand down to match the veneer.

    Sorry for the duplicate post.

It's been a while since I've done this.

The Palladium P39 woofers are unobtanium.

    Likewise any worthwhile repair pieces.

I had a reputable shop In Los Angeles recone my driver, but they put in a standard cone.

The P39 cones are concave; the standard cones are convex.  So there's no way it matches.

Not sure if the sound would be the same, but I didn't try it.

I was able to source a used driver from a source who will remain nameless.

Bottom line is that if you can get a P39 replacement driver, consider yourself lucky.

I know this sounds kind of dumb but I sometimes check the "This Old House" website for info on the latest stuff.

They have good stuff on there.  I am checking an Audio forum.

I am also a knucklehead.  I checked in my garage and found a gallon of sealer.  So I guess I don't need to buy any...

  9. I need to seal sandstone around a pool.  Great choice of material next to water, in know...

What do you guys use?  Really harsh sun and water exposure.  The stone is flaking so I need to do this.  I scraped it all down and it is ready to be sealed while it is still cool out.

I have about 75 linear feet about one foot wide.

I found Miracle Sealants 511 Porous Plus Sealant.  Is this stuff good or is there something better to use here?

Modified “AA”. A 2 and a 6. The large air core is a .40mH in series with the K-55.

The wiring is imbecilic. I would love to redo it (no charge).

I'm selling La Scalas right now.  Spent 3 hours giving a demo to a buyer and they walked.  I've now got a second guy wanting to demo.  I have fun demoing, but I can't keep doing this.

I've decided I'm no longer going to sell things under $100.  It ALWAYS requires more time than you expect.

Screw him.  I verify that all drivers work, check overall condition and then listen for a song or two if even.  Once in a while you meet someone you like and are having fun, but make the deal first.

How is it non Klipsch? It's a 30+ year old Klipsch speaker....that needs restoration. fixed the OP, happy now?

Don't get mad at Wuzzer, just take his advice to go over to AK to discuss mods.  It is now forbidden here.

    Maybe this tutorial will help:

  13. I have the original remote, but it eats batteries and is not really user friendly.  Th emotion control turns it on all the time.  I just wanted a good volume control and mute for commercials.  The $5 Phillips did the trick.  It does sources too.  If the Harmony was available I would have bought one based on reviews but they are NLA.

Yes,, I have a Denon AVR-5803 that I did some horse trading to acquire. The T-5000s love power and the Denon delivers. The Denon sound may be a contributor to the midrange being slightly more pronounced. I have not had the opportunity to try other receivers/amps but from what I've read about this unit the midrange is slightly elevated.

I did purchase a miniDSP mic and when I have more free time this summer I'll try and learn how to use REW to do some measuring of the system. Plus I have KG-2.5s for my surrounds and a SVS SB-3000 for the 40hz and lower. I bought the mic to be able to better adjust the sub and surround. The added benefit will be to measure the actual playback from the T-5000s with the mods.

The 170 wpc gave it away.  Great receiver.  I use it to drive five Palladiums and have used it for Marten Django Xls.  Does a great job.  A $5 Phillips 3 device universal remote was  a great addition for volume and muting control if you want something more simple that does not eat batteries.

  15. A mighty fine amplifier.  I had the 7B STs years ago.

If you search everyone will say that they are bright, harsh, blah blah blah.  I had the 7b STs and Classe CAM 350s, known to be 'tubelike' at the same time.  They were very similar.  The Classe was slightly rolled off on top compared to the Brystons, but not buy much.

As others have said, keep the volume reasonable as they can do some damage to your speakers with that much power and Heresys are small, so if in a big room, don't try to push to loud volumes.

I like seeing someone half way around the world enjoying these.  Post over at AudioKarma and include pics of your progress.

The Heresy has a different sized cabinet, correct?  If so a no go on that.
