  1. A single full range driver can sound great. That is why so many people went crazy over the Tektons with single Foztex drivers that Mark recommended. (Mine should be here today). I always liked the 901's when I heard them but have never had a chance to sit down and listen critically. It was always in a store. I grew up listening to 601's and when I bought JBL L60's, I realized what imaging was and how bad the Bose "Direct Reflecting" theory was (at least in the 601's). In any event, the 901's always had a nice mellow sound and sounded worlds above the others on display when switched to them. Erik, have you listened to them critically? I am really curious about the imaging and detail. I always figured (but do not have personal experience) that they were good for filling a room with nice warm sound (like a game room where you do not sit down to listen but rather walk around and many people are listening).

  3. If anyone is still looking for a pair, please email me. I have an extra pair.
  4. I took the plunge on a pair of the 4" versions. I need something small that will fit on my desktop. The 4" are the only ones that are that small. I listen to the stereo in my office for 8 to 9 hours a day so I need a decent system. I am using a 19 year old Denon receiver and JBL speakers right now. I picked up another Panasonic SA XR receiver this week for the office. Should be a nice system.
  5. Which drivers did he use? How do you match efficiency, the 10" must be way below the tweeter and bass bin.
  6. Go to the home depot and get some 1" x 3/4" wood. Put is along the sides that hold teh shelf and put long drywal screws in the hold it. Put three strips along teh bottom of the shelf. You want the 1" portion going up and down and the 3/4" portion vertical. I added grante shelves to a similar cabinet and used 1/4" steel angle iron. Welded up some rectangles and securred it with drywall screws. Very strong and supports the granite with no problem.
  7. I think the E2 is the same except that it has a diode. Look up the schematic (or just open your speakers up)
  8. Yopu don't need to switch teh crossoner, just replace the 2 uF caps with new ones. It is really eazy to do. When I rebuilt mine I dropped the taps on cthe mids and tweets to give them -3 db each. This helped to balance the speakers. It cost 50 cents. I attached a schematic.
  9. Why SURE, I"ll TAKE it! What a deal, thanks man! LOL Huh? Do you want it? Price these things out, this is a very good deal.
  10. Yamaha CR1020 $125 plus shipping. I just cleaned all of the pots and replaced all of the bulbs. This really woke up a pair of Heresys that I had.
  11. 100% home made is the safest and best bet. It is not as hard nor as inconvenient as you might think. Try it and see. We were feeding our dogs a natural food from teh vet that helps with their allergies. When I heard that more foods were beign added I had to argue with my wife to switch to natural or "raw" She resisted at first but we both have preparred it. After we started they have added more food. Now she is glad that we switched. The funny thing is that the raw diet is actually cheaper than the food we were feeding them. Here is what you do. Buy a big bag of potatoes, a bag of carrots and boneless/skinless chicken brests. You can catch teh chicked brests on sale for $1.70 a pound (here in Las Vegas). Stock up on the chicken when it is on sale and freeze it. To prepare, put the whole bag of chicken in a pot of water and boil it until the meat is white. The potatoes and carrots just get chopped up small and boiled together. No need to peel either (make sure you use brown potatoes - I think dogs cannot eat the red skins). When the carrots are soft it is ready. Refrigerate the potatoes and carrots. Take the chicken and cut it up into small pieces. Refrigerate some and freeze the rest. Then feed your dogs once a day. Put some potatoes and chicken in a bowl, heat until warm and feed. The dogs will love it. We have three dogs. Our little chubby one has lost weight too. When you run low on chicken, take more out of the freezer. The potatoes and carrots should last a week in the fridge so this is a once a week task. My wife and I both work and we find time for this. This is our plan until the mess is resolved. We may need to add vitamins if this goes on for a while.
  12. Here is another of teh inside. The chrome is perfect. It was recently serviced. You can see that one of the caps was replaced.
  13. I have a mint condition McIntosh 5100 (50 wpc) with wood case and panlocks for sale. Nice warm sound. It is one of the cleanest pieces of vontage equipment that I have ever seen. Here is a photo. $500 plus shipping.

  15. If you are thinking about buying one, I have a 2100 for sale. Same thing but much cooler looking. Price? $500 a piece plus shipping. All were just checked out by a tech. I have a 2100, C26 pre and a 5100 intgrated. All are very mint. The C26 and 5100 both include the panlocks and wood case.
  16. I have a VPI Scout, Dynavector 20x5 and VPI 16.5 cleaning machine with record research fluid for sale. I will sell all for $1500 plus shipping to forum members. The 16.5 is brand new with box and the film on the clear cover has not been removed. This is a really good deal. Would you consider the VPI alone? Larry Package deal. The cleaning fluid is full and was pricy. I cleaned about 6 records. Someone will jump on this. Price it all out separately on Audiogon.

  19. I just posted because this whole Ford vs. Chevy debate is really old. I have really nice SS equipment and am very happy. That being said, you have really nice tube equipment and should be happy very happy. The Peach, VRD's and Jolida are end of the road items. Send your amp back to Craig for a once over and be done with these problems.
  20. I checked Best Buy's website. I couldn't find any of my SS equipment there. It's a 2 channel system too. I am going to tough it out and continue to suffer with it though, compromises and all.
  21. Moving 40 palms into the yard. Huge project, almost done, wife hates me now. Funny how this works.
  22. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, hang on a second, lets not get too far ahead of ourselves here. Before you start splitting up assets or enforcing buy/sell agreements, there is obviously some reason the two of you managed to stay in business so long, and some kind of synergy created by the two of you being partners. You would have split long ago if if was not a mutually beneficial arrangement. Tigerwood does have an excellent suggestion about the comment cards, make sure they ask the same questions for each of you, and have a space for comments. To get 100% feedback offer a door price to those who turn them in. Make it optional for them to identify themselves, you give them a drawing ticket when they turn in their feed back card. That way they don't think they are going to be solicited with stuff if they turn in the comment card. The videotape idea is good, not for documentation, but to try and help the kid, just as the comment cards are. If he sees what a goofball he is he just might become self-aware of the situation and try and make corrections on his own. You could try and send him to a Carnage course. There is no doubt that it is a difficult situation, but the truth of the matter is that your partner is not going to want to keep losing money, or opportunities, as I assume both of you need to continue to earn an income. There are some situations where a parent just cannot see the shortcommings of a child and will stay with the child all the way to doom. That is for sure to be avoided and you want to get off of any ship that starts sinking. However, I have seen a lot of young attorneys who were rough around the edges, with the right mentor, training, encourgement become very fine trial lawyers. I have also seen a couple that were so goofy there was just no hope and they eventually went off and did other things. I would think the sales figures are going to be the most important. I assume that you figure that you will get X percent that are going to want an appointment after a dinner, and out of those X percent will want to do business. You only got 5 or 6 appointments with the 3 of you speaking, yet you got 90% to sign for appointments when it was just you and the kid. Is that because you shortened his part of the talk when it was just the two of you? What do you atribute that to? I would for sure come up with comment cards, and that is an easy sale to get on with your partner. Travis I didn't say to cal it quits and split everything up. I said to prepare to split everything up just in case. If it happens a few years down the road it will be much easier to divide the goodwill, which is usually teh most valuable asset.
  23. Beginning of the end. This is probably just the beginning. If the kid doesn't fall off the wagon you will eventually be partners with him. You need to read your operating agreement (or bylaws if you are a corporation) regarding how to split the business. Start keeping detailed records of sales, expenses and accounts. Start thinking about what is valuable to you (trade name, phone numbers, etc). I have had partners figth to the end for phone numbers and trade names. If you can set up a second business number now that predominately goes to you that would be helpful. A DBA can also help if you can start to attach it to yourself. Make sure that you advertise using both names "Guido's loans, The Itialian Mofia Loan Experts." That way it is easy to split the names. If you need to split in a few years you will also have a number and name with goodwill attached to it. It will make a potential split much less painful. Even if you do not split up the above will not hurt if you keep it to yourself. Hate to be doom and glood but hope for the best and prep for the worst. As for the immediate situation, try taping your presentations and have the attendees fill out comment cards. You will have documention of his antics. You also really need to continue to push to do some separate presentations if possible.
