  1. Just so that there is no question, they are Klipschorns (the tigerwood part is the rare part) with false corners (no placement problems). Here is a pic of the ALK's that were custom made:
  2. I have these for sale (they are not too bad for a starter speaker). The finish is Tigerwood. I remember Andy saying that he believes that less than one-half dozen pairs of these were ever made. I'll bump my post on them.
  3. I love the low z mode. I'll have to check and see what is in the Peach rigth now. I keep hearing good things about the Russian rockets too. I have a pair that I will swap into the AH soon (Been playing it for over a week straigth to break in the upsampler. Chris
  4. Mark, Maybe I should say "bright" because your Peach is by no means harsh. I am using a solid state power amp, but it is a very smooth amp (QSC1202). Maybe the midrage is too forward. What tubes do you reccomend? I am thinking a lot of detail and a "sweet midrange" for the V1, and more "warmth" (lots of it) for V2/V3 to cover any deficiencies with bad sources (especially through the DAC1). Chris PS - what tubes are in the Peach right now?
  5. Mark, Regarding the Peach. I have been using just the lowZ mode as the Hiz seems too harsh. It is probably the tube I take it. Should I buy a really expensive tube for it and use the Hi z most of the time? Then if I am listening to am MP3, can I put some sloppy "flabby" tubes in v2/v3 to cover up the MP3's shortcommings (I will be using a Benchmark DAC and I am really afraid that the MPS's are going to sound aweful with this dac)? Chris
  6. Thanks, I'll take a peek at it. I am wondering about auctions like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5831555937&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 What is the catch? Are these the 60's version and is this a great deal? Chris
  7. Here is the question. Are the Siemens 7308's worth 10 times the price of the 6H23's Russian Rockets? I see Siemens for sale at all different prices, the 60's versions being the pricy ones. How can you tell if they are from the 60's (the desirable ones)? Same Question for the Amprex 7308's (how can you spot the desirable ones)? From Upscale, I can get the Amprex 7308's (driver grade) at $80 each for my AH player and "Gold Grade" at $140 or "Platinum" at $150 for my Peach and the Siemens at $170 or $190 each. All pretty pricy. The Amprex will run me $440 for all 4 if I go through Upscale. Any experience with Amprex "Bugle Boys" or Mullard A Frames. I see them on eBay pretty cheap ($38/pair). What is the catch? Chris
  8. I finally decided that I will be running a QSC amp along with two Teac L700P's to tri amp my Speakers. Now that that is settled, I woudl like to improve the source. I have a Peach Preamp and an upsampled AH! Super Tjoeb CD player. WHat tubes shodul I go with? The AH uses 7308's and I hear the Amprex or Seimens Gold pins are the way to go (or the Russian Rockets on a budget) Why do some Seimens 7308's go for less than teh 60's versions? How can I tell if I am getting teh 60's verions (or the sought after ones)? The Peach uses 6922 6DJ8's (same as above, right?) for the LP and one 12X4 for the HP. I normally use the LP. Will four Russian Rockets make me happy (at $60 from Upscale)? Should I seek out a quad of the Seimens or Amprex tubes? (for the Peach and the AH)? Does anyone here have tubes for sale that I need (email me if you do)? I want a sweet midrange that has that "vocals right in the room with you" sound. I also want to avoid spending six months and $1,000 tube rolling. That is why I am depending on you guys, my life strategists (or at least Audio strategists). Thanks in advanced for the help. Chris PS - anyone interested in horse trading, I have some stuff (Heresys, Dyna SCA 35 (mint) some really cool custom ALK's) EDIT: I just looked at the extra tubes that came with my AH player. I think they are russian rockets. They say 6H23 then an upsidedown U. Below that they say 9301 and above the lettering is a horizontal rocket (or a phallic?). I'll have to give these a try when I have some time (I got home after 9 PM tonight).
  9. Dean, I saw those graphs too. Itf appears that teh log paper is missing a line. I was hoping that the horn was a 500 or 600 hz horn and limiting the bottom end. I was hoping that Al could test them with the seller that I dealt with, it appeared that no matter how many times I told him and sent messages, the driver were never goinbg to make it to AL. It's a shame because we all could have benefitted from Al using them for a few months. I am not ready yet, but a test with pink noise and the Behringer w/mike on a 400 HZ horn should reveal a lot. It is a shame teh K Horn bass bin does not go up a few hundred more HZ. The options for midrange driver would vastly improve. Chris
  10. I am selling my $4,000 Denon 5800 receiver to a friend and replacing it with a $250 Panasonic too. Actually, the Denon sounds pretty good but it is really big and heavy and has huge power transformers. My buddy has been bugging me for years so I gave in. The Panasonic shoudl sound good with my Belles. The current model is the '55. I am wondering if they are comming out with a '75 model soon (I'll pay the extra $50). Chris
  11. "Hi everyone, Within a few years I'll be upgrading and hopefully be done with my system. " That's really funny! Chris
  12. Please look at the picture that I posted. The tube on the left is a Philips. I do not know what the tube on the right is? Can anyone identify it? Thanks, Chris
  13. Armando, no problem. Post any pics you want. Duke, Please email me your email address and I can get the plans to you. Chris
  14. Dean, I am going to be using a 400 hz crossover with a 24db/octave slope. This should help. You are going to ESN's right? Al told me that the steep curve (also 24 db/octave) really helps the JBL's. Chris
  15. How much should the Siemens 7308's cost? How about the Russian Rockets? Thanks, Chris
  16. Think Bose marketing. "We use the same parts as high end B&O rather than that louse tripath stuff found in $20 sonic impact amps, so it must sound good because its is really expensive" A company like ICE may also be able to offer Bel Canto (who I assume is not a big volume producer) more of a discount than Tripath who deal with big volume producers. I am still amazed when I see multi thousand dollar digital amps - expensive = good, inexpensive = bad. I seem to remember teh CArver digital amp in home version for abotu $1800 whiel the pro version is only about $700. Are RCA jacks that much more expensive than XLR's? Chris
  17. Shoule the resistance be so low (11 to 12 ohms) for a 16 ohm driver? Chris
  18. I just received my JBL 2470's (which the Seller was supoosed to send to AL K. - Seller said that he contacted Fed Ex to fix the problem but they are here anyway - sorry Al, I really tried.). I have a question. Teh Seller was also supposed to send the drivers with teh phenolic diphrams uninstalled. They got here and they are installed. I checked the resistance and they each measure about 11 to 12 ohms (for 16 ohm drivers). Should new diaphrams measure this low? I wanrt to open them up and check to see that I have new diaphrams. Can I just unscrew the four screws and open them up and put it back together or is there any special settings or shimming that I need to do to put them back together properly? Your help is appreciated. Thanks, Chris
  19. Craig, What do you have that will work for single ended amps (using a 300B tube)? Will the above work? Thanks, Chris
  20. I bought mine on audiogon and it had two sets fo tubes. I thought that the Philips were the upgraded tubes. I'll swap them out tonight. I attached a pic of the Philips and the other tubes. Are they are something special? Chris
  21. I have a pair of philips tubes in there now. Will the Seimens make that much of a difference over teh Philips tubes? Chris
  22. Leo, Why use the 5.1 outputs (I am assumin the right front and left front)? Chris
  23. Crazytubepower has soem speakers for sale. I think they arfe RF3's. You may want to check those out. Chris
