  1. ...I ripped out the amp and put this old three-legged dog down. Now I am looking for a pair of Heresys, I guess. I am no tubophile but I have read good things about these old Magnavox PP amps. Anyone hear one of these? This sounded sweet in the console with my son's mp3 player. The amp has it's own power and simple RCA preamp inputs. Speaker outs will be simple to trace.
  2. Ask what hospital so you can send flowers or card. Anyone can call and get the status on a patient. St. Agnes is right down the street from his address, but Baltimore has LOTS of hospitals with various specialties.
  3. If you REALLY want the BB instead, perhaps one of us could fetch it for you.
  4. Speaking of which, what happened to that weird paulwklipsch.com site(ior something like that)? You know, the one with all the great archive photos of just about every, if not EVERY model the PWK produced. That was some nice history. Was it put up (and taken down) by a family member? As far as what amp he favored, I think you could look at http://www.klipsch.com/news-center/founder-biography/default.aspx to see his personal(?) fave at, at least, one point of his life.
  5. FWIW, I had Quartets with various SS sources. I never could get the sound at appreciable levels without that flaming up the horn to hateful levels. Sold 'em on the 'Bay. I hope the buyer was happy with them. BUT, with an Academy center, they were GREAT home theater. I now use SS with vintage JBL and original Advents in the "upstairs" system. I had Cornwalls for a while and liked them a lot but they did not image in my smallish room. I DO miss them to some degree and hope to find another pair someday. For jazz, live, classical and chamber music, those Cornwalls were awesome. I have no horns or tubes right now. I just enjoy music and good vintage equipment sound. On audio boards there are lots of differing tastes represented. Check out the audioasylum boards for various systems. It's really an eye opener. I would like to go back to basics with integrated amp, "large" Advents and a TT like I first started in 1977, my third year in college. But that would mean splitting up the entertainment center with the 5.1, XBOX, PS2, and SNES. We just need bigger houses with a spare 15x24 (or so) room, right? I hope you are happy with your choice. The Heresy has more support on these boards, IMO, and, with a sub, could sound better than the Quartets. And, you will own a Klipch Heritage. I just wish the bass was worthy of the cabinet size. I have wondered if anyone has experiemented with biamping the Heresy horns with a much better bass driver like some of those old custom PRO ElectroVoice rigs.
  6. Now THAT's a RACK! I actually found black wall plates at Home Depot for my CAT5 runs with snap-in conectors also in black. They are available from Leviton. But, they are probably already on your list. [*-)] I like the screen approach REAL home theater! Like your avatar too. Lucky kids.
  7. What is the footprint of all your Klipsch speakers? I'll bet it adds up to a New York efficiency apartment!
  8. Dude, I say, DUDE! The expression is "outi 5000" as in "Audi 5000."
  9. "big old speakers" That is hysterical. Way to go. I know a guy who yardsales and he has some great stories. Yours is right up there.
  10. Pray tell, where is this website of which you speak? I have a Beogram 8000 with MMC1 with arm impairments that must be rectified with utmost expedience. Thank you.
  11. Any sub will do to start, passive or active. Run it off SPEAKERS 2 connectors from your amp/receiver. That way, you can eliminate it if you want. If you want REAL BOTTOM END, you will have to fork out some bucks to pick up bottom end tonal clarity. Too much stuff out there is just delivering sloppy so-called bass. A friend of many years ago bought Heresy speakers. He swore by them, touting their life-like reproductive ability. Of course, that was pre-digital age where we now explore the sub 20Hz zone the FEEL zone where the ears are secondary to other senses. Others on this forum have great success with Heresys. I think PWK thought up the right name for them. They have the same horns as the Cornwall but with different xover, cabinet and bass driver. I am looking intently for a pair myself. I had Cornwalls but they were huge and didn't image like my JBL monitors in my 15x15 room. Also, horns are great for home theater. I repeat, HORNS ARE GREAT FOR HOME THEATER.
  12. Can't speak for him, but he probably did not know what he had until the damage was done. His other items for sale say he is a thrift store/yard sale troller. For example, he would probably buy what I just bought, a Dual CS 5000, for the $15 I paid for it, and try to sell the cartridge for $40. There are many injustices in the world, and not knowing Klipsch Museum specimens and paying $15 for a CS 5000 are two of them. How DO I sleep at night?
  13. He should have called Gary, who has the best near field Khorn setup in the region. Then he could have gone upstairs to hear Cornwalls. If that's not enough, he would have gotten red carpet treatment at no extra charge. Audio boutiques - BAH! It's all about HT these days.
  14. Anthology - the best. Good cuts. I once read that he would re-record over and over until he felt he got it "right." THAT's a craftsman. Did you catch Jeff Beck on "Aerican Idol Gives Back?" He looked like he did not even practice and it showed. He missed an opportunity, IMO. Great guitaist, though.
  15. Some in this hobby call those "trannies,' but you have to be careful where you use that term these days. [*-)]
  16. Gary's Zebra's would have to tip a hat to those! Just awesome.
  17. Around here, you should be able to find one. Good luck. I have a TD-125 that needs a resto, but it's no 124 -- it looks too modern. I'll keep an eye out for you.
  18. For JBL'ers only. Frankly, if he feels the way I think he feels, ANYWHERE is the sweetspot. 7 x 8(?) pegboard listening room -- what does he know that we don't?
  19. Item 220081242598 on the 'Bay. Gorgeous, ain't it? I need to troll better neighborhood dumpsters. Seller also got a TD 124. Maryland, too!
  20. Not overlooked by everybody. JBL made a lot of great speakers including affordable models. I have the L110 (a find @ $9.99 for the pair plus authorized JBL woofer refoam) and they sound terrific. My room's just too small to let horns breathe and I don't have the time/money to spend on audio chemistry, mixing horns and tubes. Happy with the JBLs for many years to come. I tried Altec -- too much metal and not enough bass for my taste. But, vocals were silky smooth! I had Cornwalls -- nice sound, but no imaging -- probably due to my smallish room. If I had a larger room for them to look "interesting," I would have kept them. I may revisit them someday. I would like to try Heresy's (poor man's Cornwith a good standalone sub?). I am still a Klipsch fan, but not in the market right now (unless, of course, I score a pair for $9.99!) and always enjoy reading these boards.
