  1. I just ordered mine and it should ship tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone has yet to try it out and what are your thoughts? I actually have a few months until I can trully get the best use out of it but I could not wait. Thanks in advance.

Too bad I live about as far away as possible now, or I would like to see the stuff. ---------------- It was a beautiful day in "The Pride of the Foothills" today too after some gloomy days. Too bad you moved away, where did you move too?
  3. The items are in Glendora, CA which is about 30 minutes East of Downtown Los Angeles.
  4. It all depends on the room. I did place a pair of HSU TN-1225 subs behind a sofa and wall but not because it was the best location, just because I wanted to hide them. The best place was too out in the open so we all have to make sacrifices. The best thing to do is just try it out. The couch that housed the 2 HSU's did rumble but not as much as the love seat that was on the opposite side, no wonder they call it a love seat. I am sure that one of the sub experts on this forum will come to your rescue but they would probably need more details. Good luck.
  5. It might be a good idea if I gave you a way to get in contact with me. The e-mail address is mjaudio2@hotmail.com oops.
  6. A while back I came on this board to let people know that I had a Klipsch Academy on ebay. A few of you got upset about the advertising so I promised to bring my next set of items to the forum first. Most of the prices are below the used market value so they are firm and cash discounted. Some of the items are priced at market value and that is just because they are more valuable to me. Paypal is accepted but only to Verified members with a Confirmed shipping address and a 2.9% surcharge. I normally never charge the 2.9% but I have reduced the price of many items such as the Arcam AVR-300 to $1,400 when most ebay watchers know they sell for over $1,500 used. The items will be shipping from Glendora, CA 91741 and I have tried to list the weights if you want to check on shipping. UPS will be handling the ground and Fed-Ex the Air. The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. If you are local and can pick up and pay cash I will discount 2.9% from the prices listed below. I am not a dealer so you will have to check with the Mfg. about warranty as the only warranty I can offer is a No DOA warranty. All of these items have been tested for a minimum of 5 hours by either myself or a friend. You can check my feedback at both Audiogon and ebay under the user name mjaudio and they are both perfect with over 130+ transactions. These items will only be available at these prices until this Sunday May 15. After that you may start to see them popping up on Audiogon or ebay but until that time they will only be available on this forum. Here is the list: ++ Items with original box and manuals are stated but some do not include one or both ++ All items have been tested to insure they perform like new. ----Meridian 568 in excellent condition with remote, downloaded manual and the latest software upgrade (retail $6,500) $2,500 35lbs. shipping weight. ----Meridian M33 active analog speakers in good condition and excellent working condition. Has all the latest surround formats including Pro Logic IIx. Probably the best receiver I have ever heard. Here is sample of what Widescreen Review had to say about it: Arcam AVR300 Receiver - Widescreen Review From the April 2005 issue: "The Arcam AVR300 is easily the world's best A/V receiver... And it is also far more than that. The Arcam AVR300 utterly and completely transcends the label and category of A/V receiver. ...the Arcam AVR300 takes its place alongside the finest, most expensive high end A/V separates, and deserves to be considered with them as its true competition." "Also, at it's modest price of $1,999, the Arcam AVR300 is more than a bargain, it is actually five bargains, for the price of one... best sounding basic power amplifier... best sounding surround processor... best sounding analog line section... best sounding multichannel D/A converter... and a bargain way to add Pro Logic IIx. Of course, the Arcam AVR300 is actually all five bargains, all rolled into one unit, which gives you all five perfectionist high-end components for the ridiculous high-end bargain price of $1,999, plus a tuner, plus the convenience of a receiver." "The Arcam AVR300 transcends categorization. It is an A/V receiver, but is is also so much more. The Arcam AVR300 gets my vote as best product of the year. Not just in one category. Best product of the year, period." $1,400 (retail $1,999) 50lbs. shipping weight. ----SVS CS-Ultra subwoofer in excellent condition with original box. This is a passive sub so you will need an amp to drive it. Easilly one of the most powerful subwoofers I have ever listened to. I actually had 2 of these but pictures kept falling of the wall due to the almost violent shaking of the house. $650 (retail $899) With the size and weight of the box expect about a $80 or more ground shipping charge. ----Sunfire True Subwoofer Signature with original box and manual. There are some scratches on the top that were covered up but it still looks OK and performs great. $850 (retail $1,995) 65lbs. shipping weight ----Sunfire True Subwoofer Signature with original box and manual. This one is in Mint condition. $1,100 (retail $1,995) 65lbs. shipping weight ----PS Audio xStream Prelude 10 gauge speaker cables 2 meter (6.6 feet) pair. New in the box detachable spade and banana connectors so you never have to worry about future compatibility problems with equipment and the xStreams. Users are able to simply screw the appropriate connector in to place and make the proper hookup. $75 a pair (retail over $300) 15lbs ship weight. ----Harmonic Technology Pro-Silway Single Crystal Silver/Copper 1 meter (3.3 feet) XLR Balanced Interconnect Cable (pair) in excellent condition. $250 a pair 2 pairs available (retail $479) ----Harmonic Technology Truth-Link 6N Single Crystal Copper 1 meter (3.3 feet) XLR balanced Cable (pair) in excellent condition. $150 a pair (retail $299) ----Harmonic Technology Truth-Link 6N Single Crystal Copper 1 1/2 meter (5 feet) locking RCA Cable (pair) in excellent condition. $150 a pair (retail $301) Let me know if there is anything your interested in. I usually get to my e-mail after 6PM PST so please be patient. mjaudio2@hotmail.com Thanks. Michael
  7. I have never tried a DD-12 but I did own a HGS-18. The HGS-18 was great on music so I would have to suspect that the DD-12 would be even better considering the built in EQ. For movies I really like the slam of an Earthquake supenova or SVS CS-Ultra both of which I have owned. The Velodyne just can't match the output of these 2 subs for movies. The difference is not subtle either. I used to own a pair of SVS CS-Ultras but the bass was so powerful that a few pictures fell of the wall and things just shook violently. If you listen to a lot of music then the Velodyne is a solid choice. If movies are your main priority and you like bass that will literally push through your body then for the price you can't beat SVS or Earthquake. I don't know the exact specs on the DD-12 but I would bet that you would need 2 to equal the output of a single Earthquake Supernova MKV-15. Just my 2 cents.
  8. The HGS-18 is a very nice sub, I used to own one. I had a chance to try out a Earthquake Supernova MKIV-12P so I thought why not. I can tell you I was blown away and the HGS-18 never made it back into my system. I now own a 15" Earthquake as well as a SVS CS-Ultra and both subs flat out beat the HGS-18 in all areas except maybe music where the Velo kept better pace. The new Velodyne DD-18 is probably a lot better with its built in calibration but the price is sky high (I heard the Velodyne is planning on making there eq avaliable to use with all subs for a mere $600 including a mic and it is a 6 band eq to boot) Velodyne does make excellent subs though but you would probably need 2 HGS-18's to equal the bass output of a single Earthquake Supernova MKV-15. We are talking about 118db output at 45hz 117 @ 35hz and still hitting 102 @ 20hz for the Earthquake 15". The SVS subs can do about the same as well and if your looking to spend $1,500 then the PB12-Plus/2 is a killer deal at $1,300 shipped. The customer service at SVS is the best in the business as well. Good luck.

The RC-7 is a way off match, and the Academy a so so match. If you are using Belle's as mains your best bet would be a third Belle (I know, very tough and expensive to get), next a La Scala, after that a Cornwall would work very well. I think that the Forte' is actually a better choice than a Heresy. If I were you I would stop looking for another center speaker, keep the Forte, but rework the network inside it. Let me tell you it will transform the speaker. Chris Munson, has a killer upgrade on custom PCB's that will bring levels of detail to that Forte' that you never thought possible. I have one of his networks in my Academy and it brought it to a whole other level rivaling the detail that I get from the La Scala. I would try that first and see what you think. ---------------- Where do you get Chris Munson upgrades from?

  11. I own a Sunfire Sig and I just sold my Earthquake MKIV-12 to a friend and replaced it with a Earthquake MKV-15. The Sunfire is a very good sub but the Earthquake is just more effortless and louder (the 15" Earthquake is even more scary good) The friend I sold the Earthquake to wanted to use 2 subs which is always a good idea but after using the single sub for a month he may be changing his mind. As far as reliability the sunfire sub is now out of warranty and it turns off from time to time. Sunfire charges a flat $250 fee to repair the sub so it is going back. The Earthquake sub developed a rattle after I had it in use for over 4 years and I was only charged $75 for the repair. They are both great subs and I would just get the one that you could get for less. I think you can actually get a New 12" Earthquake for the same price of a used Sunfire sig.
  12. Try an SVS sub. The PB12-ISD retails for $599 and unless they changed there policy you have 30 days to audtion the sub in your house. If you don't like it then send it back for a refund minus the shipping cost. The customer service at SVS is by far one of the best I have ever encountered in all the years I have been into audio. Tom and Eric really know the meaning "Cutomer Service". They even have a new $430 10" sub. I do not work for SVS and in fact I like Earthquake just as much but the customer service from SVS is what puts them in another league. Good luck!
  13. I just happen to have a SVS CS-Ultra and a Earthquake Supernova MKV-15. I also had a Sunfire Signature sub, Velodyne HGS-18, Earthquake Supernova MKIV-12, HSU, M&K and few others but I will concentrate on the SVS and Earthquake Supernova MKV-15 since these are both superior to the others IMO. The SVS CS-Ultra and Earthquake Supernova MKV-15 are both excellent subs but different. I have never taken out my spl meter to measure what I hear but these are my impressions. The Earthquake seams to play louder than the SVS in the 40hz and up area but the SVS really puts out spls in the subsonic region that you feel. I actually started out with (2) SVS CS-Ultra's but pictures actually started falling off the wall and some rooms in the house shaked violently. The Earthquake shakes things up as well but you can hear more of the bass than the SVS. For music I prefer the SVS to come into the mix at about 60hz as it can be a little loose any higher. The Earthquake is a little better for music and can be crossed over at a higher freq. Neither is going to outperform a Vandersteen or Rel with music but with proper set-up they can come pretty close. For home theater though they will both blow each of those music subs out of the water. I spoke with Eric over at SVS and he told me the PB12-Plus/2 actually plays a couple of dbs louder than my CS-Ultra. At about $1,300 shipped it would be in the same price class as an Earthquake Supernova MKV-15 through ebay. These are the 2 best subs I have tried so far and I don't think they would ever have you wanting for more. The price of both are more than your looking to spend but it will be well worth it. I still like stereo subs but that can get pretty pricey. SVS and Earthquake both make great subs and I think you will be happy with either one. Good luck!
  14. Thanks for clearing that up for me DrWho. Since you seem to know what your talking about could I ask you about adding a Parametric Eq to the sub or subs. I was thinking about adding a couple of Art 351 or a BEHRINGER DSP1124P since they are now only $99 new at parts express. Is this a complicated process and are the benefits worth the expense and time? I know I would need to measure first since I could be lucky and already have a flat response. In this case an EQ would seem to be useless if there are no dips or peaks to correct. Do you know if there are any resources online that could explain the process in the easiest possible manner? I already have a Radio Shack SPL meter and a copy of Avia like a respectable HT nut should have. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
  15. I admit that my Buy it Know price may be high. The last Academy in this condition sold on ebay for $685 I believe and shipping was another $50. If I wanted to sell this Academy for sure I would have run a $1 no reserve auction like I normally do with items this popular. The fact is I would not be heart broken if it doesn't sell. I think in the far reachs of my poluted mind I hope I can find another med. oak Academy in the same condition for surround duties. I would buy enough for a 7 channel system if it wasn't so difficult and expensive. If it doesn't sell then for some sick reason I would probably be happy. It really is a great center though and it would be nice for it to go to someone who would appreciate it as much as I do. Thanks for the kind words stormin and I promise Frzninvt to offer whatever Klipsch item I am selling to the forum members prior to listing on ebay or agon. I honestly didn't know so thank you for telling me. I understand that I don't need to apologize but I do feel by the reaction that I have offended some in this community. I really enjoy coming here from time to time to get some ideas but my work schedule makes contributing tough. Since I still plan on coming back to gain more knowledge from the members on this forum I would rather it be on a good note. If the Academy does not sell on ebay I will more than likely keep it. If I decide otherwise I will bring it here to the forum at a good price so a member can complete there system. Thanks all
