  1. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'll try some of these things tomorrow or the next day and report back. Same room as before. I had other components not working properly, and wiring problems, so I just kind of gave up on it for a while. That's why 2 years. I did rewire everything this morning (with old wires), so it's possible I have something out of phase, or a bad wire. Going to bed. Greg out.
  2. A new Denon DCM 370 CD, my old Adcom GTP550 (which I never liked the sound of from day 1). Tone out. Played with a Paradigm Servo 15 that I'm test driving, tried it on and off. But just listening to the Khorns without the sub sounded very different than I remember. I'm 39, suppose I'm going deeeef!? I think I need an E.Q. Greg
  3. Sorry about the last one, I hit the enter button by accident. I haven't listened to my Khorns for the last 2 years until today. I went through all the wiring, put my MC2200 that I just had cleaned into the rack, and did some listening. Maybe it's my ears, bad connectors, something wrong with the amp, I don't know, but my Khorns sounded very flat, non-dynamic, lacking bass, lacking highs. In short, very lackluster and boring. Not at all how I remember them sounding. Is there a limit to how long the drivers or crossovers last? My speakers are 21 years old, I've had them for 8 years. Thanks for any input. Greg
  4. I'm very sorry to hear about someone getting scammed on Ebay. I just won bids on two matching McIntosh 2205's and I can't get the guy to answer my emails. I got the contact info and left a message, we'll see. I'm not willing to send $2K across the country to someone I don't even know without some communication. I always ask for references too. I arrange a time for the references to call me so I don't impose by asking for phone numbers. One can't be too careful these days.
  5. Thanks Chris and Builder for your input. I was refering to the finish as el cheapo and not necessarily the cabinet style. I do like the look of the extra reveal on the B style cabinets, so I think when I redo mine, I'm going to add that. I figured it was just an extra piece of plywood under the horns to match the top of the C cabinet and a hardwood riser to lift it up. Up late tonight watching the Steelers manhandle the Bucs. GO STEELERS!!! Greg
  6. Thanks for the information Builder. I guess I have a pretty basic set, KCBR, finished by Mr. L. Cheapo. I shouldn't complain too much, 5 years ago I traded a pair of La Scalas that I bought for $500 and re-finished too look like the commercial model with fiberglass, new paint, aluminum trim, custom made stickers. The dealer like them so much, he traded the Khorns for them. I had about 30 hrs. of labor and $200 in materials to refinish the La Scalas as a winter project. I love these speakers, but I would like to have a nicer cabinet. I'm not sure weather to re-finish and re-veneer, or sell and buy others. I think I'll start another topic and get some advice. Greg
  7. I am looking for reasonably priced KSB 3.1's or KSB 2.1's in black. Please email Greg at glroberts@prexar.com. Thanks.
  8. I have a pair of Khorns and I'd like to know what year they were made. The serial number on the left one is 18W309 and the serial number on the right one is 18W13. O.K., I'm just joking about the left and right thing! With the serial numbers not in sequential order, does this mean I don't have a matched pair? I notice that a lot of Khorns look like there's an extra reveal where the top horn section meets the bottom unit. Mine don't have that, there is simply the edge of the plywood that divides the upper and lower. I also notice that on a lot of Khorns, there is an extra piece of molding, or what looks like molding on the bottom front. Why these differences, and when were these changes implemented at the factory? Thanks for any information anyone can provide. Greg
