  1. I have a Panasonic 50" plasma that I bought within the past year. I absolutely love it and the colors on plasma screens are far more rich than those on LCD panels. With regard to the contrast ratio I wouldn't pay much attention. It is akin to amplifiers that are rated at 1,000 watts but are actually more like 100 watts RMS. Truth of the matter is, the contrast ratio that is actually achieved is hardly ever more than 2000:1. I haven't seen a 1080p screen next to a 720p (or 1080i) whereby I can truly see the difference, but I do think there is actually something to this and it should not be discounted. In sum, I'd be much more focused on the native resolution of the screen than the contrast ratio.
  2. I have to thank everyone on the forum for their advice... I love this amplifier and I'm amazed at how powerful and clear the sound is coming through the RF-7's... I'm not even sure I need a sub any more. But then again, I listen to a lot of music with deep bass and I watch a lot of movies. The reason I mention this is that I've begun contemplating replacing my Yamaha receiver with a legit pre-amp. I looked into the Rotel RC-1070 (which I'm sure is inferior to what most of you are running but I don't have too much $ to throw around); everything looked good to me except for the lack of a subwoofer output. I know you can still run a sub and use the crossover from my SVS, but unless someone can tell me that that's a better way to set up the system than I am caught in the desire for a dedicated sub output. Are there any 2 channel pre-amps that have a subwoofer output? I would also be willing to go for a 5-channel pre and run it in stereo, but before I get ahead of myself I thought I'd see what recommendations anyone may have for me. Any advice is most appreciated.
  3. I just bought a Rotel RB-1080 to go with my Yamaha receiver. Any recommendations for what brand of cables to use to connect the two? I want to get a good set of cables, but I'm not too familiar with about how much they cost. That being said, I probably don't want to spend more than $100 (pretax and S&H). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. A website link would also be helpful. Thanks
  4. I like your 20% of logic and I think that sounds like the solution. Thanks!
  5. Thank you for the suggestion. I looked into the Rotel 1080 and I have to say I was impressed. It seems like it would have the right amount of power for th RF-7's and if it pairs well with them as you said I think I will go for it. I'm trying to find one online (I could go used or new) but all the new models seem to go for $1000. Do you know of anywhere that I could purchase it discounted? I would also buy it used, but all the used 1080's that I found had already been sold. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  6. I just bought a pair of RF-7's (upgraded from RF3-II's) and I'm in the market for a new amplifier. I'm overwhelmed by how many choices I can find online for receivers but disappointed when it comes to straight up amplifiers. I am currently using a Yamaha RXV 2300 (rated at 110W x 6) which I'm using to drive my RF-7's and an SVS PCS 12+. I'd like to upgrade the amp so that I can route more power to the RF-7's to unleash their potential. As I said, I've looked for amplifiers online a bit, but it seems that you have to either spend well over $1,000 to get an amp with decent power. Why is it that receivers are rated (at least advertised) at power levels of around 100W for only a few hundred dollars but to get a mere 2 channel amplifier with the same power rating per channel costs a lot more? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should buy or look into? I don't want to spend more than a thousand dollars and I'd like to spend somewhere closer to $750. Is it even worth the money? Any advice is most appreciated. Thanks
  7. no, mute was not turned on
  8. Yes it powers on, both speaker sets are turned on, and the receiver functions completely normally, only without sound.
  9. I have a Yamaha RXV-2300 that I just brought back from school. I had it set up in my dorm and had no problems with it. I just set it up in my home and I'm not getting any sound out of it. I've tried playing with everything, but I've had no luck. Do I need to bring it in for service?? Any ideas are appreciated.
  10. First of all, I think Hardhitter's reply was on point and extremely eloquent. If you want to play your music loud enough to make your ears bleed and impress people, than there's nothing better than the RF7's. Their efficiency is ridiculous and anyone who's ever heard Klipsch speakers knows all too well how loud they are, because they usually end up buying them. As soon as I have the disposable income to afford a pair of RF7's, I'm buying them. I say go with the 7's and make sure you have a good amp. Keep it real.
  11. hey you two should get a room, you know.
  12. I have a pair of RF3 II's and they sound like they have very little bass at all. I was at my buddy's house, and he had a pair of JBL floorstanding speakers, and they put out a ton of bass. Are these speakers capable of decent low-end performance. I have an SVS, but I'm very curious. Could it be that my reciever is cutting the frequency off and sending ALL the bass signals to the sub? Does anyone with the RF3 II's have anything to say about how well they perform in the low-end?
  13. How much are they asking for for the tweeter/horns? You could always buy a second if you are concerned
  14. I recently bought a pair of RF3 II's, and I think they are incredible. I haven't heard the RF 35's, but if they have replaced the RF3II's, they must be killer. Yes, these speakers can play ridiculously loud. I just did an SPL test in my room and I achieved 120 db. That's pretty damn sick
  15. McDermott, thank you very much for your detailed explanation. I guess now I just have to hear them to believe 'em.
