  1. Sadly, our friend and longtime forum member, Larry Clare passed away yesterday. Larry was 88 and his health had been deteriorating steadily over the past several years. Those of us who have been around this forum since the early days remember Larry for his classical music expertise and his willingness and enthusiasm in sharing his knowledge and lifelong passion with others. Larry hosted a number of forum gatherings that would begin at his house in Bethesda, MD and end in an evening of classical music at Strathmore Music Center. The most memorable of these was an evening with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performing Holst’s “The Planets.” The concert was fantastic and our large forum group caused somewhat of a scene at the end, cheering as though Led Zeppelin just walked off stage. Larry also enjoyed hosting classical music workshops at the early pilgrimages in Indy. There will be a memorial service sometime in the next couple of weeks. If any local MD/DC area forum members are interested, please shoot me a pm. Gary
  2. I didn't know Long Green was an actual town. I drive by there often. I'm just a few minutes north if someone needs me to check these out.
  3. What sad and terrible news. Josh and I swapped records and equipment many times over the years. He was always very kind and generous and my heart goes out to his friends and family. RIP my friend...
  4. Travis!! We need to catch up. Hope all is well.
  5. Hey there Jay! All is well here. Just hanging around getting older and wiser....older at least (turned 60 last week). I was working from home 4 days a week before all this began so that part is easy. Not hanging out with the grand kids has been the toughest adjustment for me. Stay safe my friend.
  6. What's up everyone? Nice to see my old pals posting! Back to the subject at hand... I haven't made any major changes to my main system in probably a decade or longer. I honestly can't remember when I bought any of my gear but it has to be at least 10 years since Craig sold me NBS prototype #2. My room has changed a few times and my Khorns now sit more than 20 ft apart which was a massive improvement.
  7. Hey Allan. Glad you finally have something to play all those crappy records on!

    .

Hahaha...didn't think anyone noticed. I try to post at least once every 3 years, even if I don't have much to say. Thebes actually sent me a link to this thread. These are the only other pair of factory zebrawood I've seen in many years although I haven't paid much attention lately. I hope all my old forum friends are doing well!
  9. Fits mine perfectly....in case you were wondering.
  10. Hey Mark - You have a pm!
  11. Yeah Russ...don't make me feel any worse than I already do!! Yes, I sold them to Dhar along with a bunch of other great stuff way way way too cheap.... I drove 6 hours to Syracuse for those CWs and they were gorgeous!!!
  12. Hey Tom! This is also my first post in ages, maybe just my 2nd or 3rd in the past 3 or 4 years. If these are still available, I might be interested. Just moved into a new house (post-divorce) and looking to set up the HT again. All I need is a center channel to go with my zebrawood cornwalls and there is no longer a need for WAF. I sold a beautiful pair of NM '74 CWO's a couple years ago way too cheap that look exactly like yours..wish I still had them. I'm in MD but not totally opposed to a road trip. Might be a long shot but shoot me a pm or email if you want to discuss. Gary
  13. Five, but whose counting. Thanks
  14. Hey Jay! What's new mi amigo? The "Aqua-bung" reference was from the actual set list Travis snagged from the keyboard player. I didn't forget the songs (not all of them anyway), just the way they had them written. I seem to recall "Heavy Whores" was also on the list....
  15. It's in a box somewhere! I'm getting ready to move so it'll probably turn up. The only song I distinctly remember from that set list was "Aqua-bung." I guess you need a sense of humor after 40+ years of touring!!
  16. Hey gents!! Its been ages..... I hope everyone is doing well. Like Larry, I'm also a tad confused. Is this a question? A recommendation? Food for thought? I also agree with Larry and Travis that any version of the Vector is a better mate with a Basis than the Graham. I also agree that the original pressing of Thick as a Brick could very well be the best out there, especially for the money. I broke the seal on an MFSL a few years ago and was sorely disappointed (very thin sounding - nice detail but no bottom end), unlike the MFSL pressing of Aqualung which is a real showstopper. I received the new box set of TAAB I & II as a gift last year and it is just awful. Rick - If I had to guess, I'd say you are underestimating the potential impact of a decent LOMC cart. I know it's a PITA adding a step-up and all that but I have always found it more than worth the time, effort and extra $$ with every table I've owned. Just my 2 cents....
  17. Still recovering...... I was there with my son, his lovely wife and a couple of their friends. This was my Father's Day gift - tickets to all 3 shows and an apartment overlooking the water just about a mile from the stadium. I was feeling no pain pretty much all weekend (it's a good thing I'm not looking for a job right now if you know what I mean). I remember turning to the group during the first set on Friday and saying "I feel sorry for anyone who isn't me right now!" That got a good laugh as I'm sure they all felt the same way. I think we broke the record for high fives in one weekend....many with perfect strangers. My daughter-in-law who goes to shows mostly to humor my son, turned to us at one point and said "I get it now." As I said before, I've been to many Dead shows but I don't recall ever feeling the energy from the band or the crowd as I did this weekend (at least not since the late 70s). It seemed as though they decided each song would be played better than it had ever been played before since they knew they would never have the chance to do it together again. Jams were extended beyond what I'd ever seen/heard. Bobby sang like he was 25 years younger and Trey was right on. Both Trey and Bruce really let loose compared to what I saw at Santa Clara. It really didn't matter what they played. Everything was terrific. I watched some of the highlights on the computer this week and understand why my brother watching from home didn't have quite the same enthusiasm for the performance as we did. You really had to be there. BTW - Mark1101 was there for the first 2 shows and really enjoyed them. He wrote "All in all a great experience. The Dead went out on a high note and with class." I couldn't have said it better.
  18. Talking about the Grateful Dead and their fans, Jerry once said: “We're like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice.”If you aren't into the Dead, I'm sure there are other threads you might enjoy more.
  19. Wow...first post in over a year! I'm heading to Chicago early tomorrow morning. My son was able to get tickets for us which wasn't an easy (or inexpensive) task!. So....along with a Cubs game at Wrigley tomorrow afternoon, we'll be at all 3 shows. Assuming I make it home alive, I'll let you know what I think. I listened to most of the 2 Santa Clara shows which were a warm-up to these and the guys were a bit rusty as you would expect. I've been to a few hundred of these since '73. These 3 shows are mostly about nostalgia so I'm not too worried if they aren't in top form. These guys are in their 60s/70s after all.
  20. Wow. Great thread.... After almost 10 years, I haven't felt the need to replace my SuperX??? networks (didn't realize the name had changed). A few years back I added Dave's Fastracs and had to adjust the settings to tone down the mids a tad but that's about it. I know there are new networks out there that folks rave about but I haven't felt the need to spend the money. Other than adding Craig's new preamp, my system is pretty much exactly the same as it was when this thread began so to answer your question Mr. Cut-Throat....No, my opinion hasn't changed.
  21. My VRDs have to be 6 or 7 years old by now and the cherry finish has darkened nicely. Just noticed how old this thread is!!
