  1. We have a single story house, so my ceiling speakers would be in an attack. Not sure about yours, but the owners manual for the CD5800 did not address boxing them in or what to do about insulation, I am curious about your thoughts.
  2. Hey guys, here is my setup and a question or thoughts on the plans: I have a traditional 5.1 setup and most of my stuff dates back to 2002. I have been out of the "audiophile" loop and am completely out of touch. RF-7, RC-7, RS-7 SVS 20-39PC+ I push it all with a Rotel Amp/Pre Amp combo. But, we are planning a remodel of our living room which will open up the kitchen and living room meaning I am losing the left rear channel speaker. So, I am thinking of selling those and replacing them with some ceiling speakers and am not in a position to upgrade to an Atmos receiver. But, never having heard ceiling speakers, and not being sure what do with insulation and yadda yadda yadda, it makes one a bit weary. My wife wants shorter speakers as part of the remodel. So, I am planning on downsizing from Klipsch RF-7's to hopefully Klipsch Forte's, from the SVS 20-39PC+ to hopefully dual SVS SB3000's and the Klipsch RS-7's to the ceiling speakers if I can wrap my brain around it. Any thoughts on a 5.1/5.2 system utilizing rear ceiling speakers. I am looking at the Klipsch CD5800's. The room is about 16' wide and 13 1/2' deep currently, which changes greatly when the wall comes down. Then the width will include the kitchen, hence the need for more sub to accommodate more room volume. Thanks for any feedback you give.
  3. @teaman.. I'll keep that in mind. I really need to get further into the process before I bring home new toys. @billybob.. excellent thoughts. I wasn't familiar with the Palladium nor had I considered the Heresy. I would imagine the Heresy would provide a much fuller sound than either the RB series or the Palladiums.
  4. I am in North Carolina and am willing to drive, at least within reasonable limits.
  5. WOW thats a lot of work invested! Excellent job on that spreadsheet. I really appreciate all the feedback. I think I have a handle roughly on values, now to clean, photograph and post. Kind of nervous, I do love my speakers, but it is kind of exciting considering something different at the same time. If I rated everything a 10, that would likely be an over estimate. I'd rate everything a 8/9 since they have some age. With that said, I'd place the values at: RF7 - $1250, RC7 - $600, RS7 - $450, SVS 20-39PC+ $500 = $2800. That stings a bit if I am honest, but it is what it is as they say. This based on what I've seen on Audiogon, Ebay, and snooping around. Thanks again everyone.
  6. Hey all, just an FYI. I did a little research and Audiogon has a bluebook value for many items. I went ahead and purchased a month ($10.00) just to see what it looked like. Sadly the RC and RS 7's are not on there, but the value of the RF's are about what I had in mind at around $1200. Just in case anyone finds themselves in a similar position as me.
  7. Thanks billybob. Yeah, I primarily am a television and movie watcher. I'd say that 99% of the speaker usage will be for that. But, I do like to put on some music when I can and really enjoy the surround experience when I have the time to enjoy it.
  8. Thank you, I have never heard of that before, I will check it out.
  9. So, we are remodeling and the wife would like to go with smaller speakers than the RF7's and the SVS Sub. So, I figure sell all the speakers and start over. I recall the RB7's were nice, but, not sure what route yet. May consider used speakers may consider trying the SVS speakers, I'm pretty open. Ive been out of the market a long time.
  10. Hey all, I am curious about how to determine the value of speakers in either the purchase of used or sale of used speakers. Is there a source to turn to for speaker values?

    The Lord of War

I agree on both points. Don Cheedle in Hotel Rwanda is excellent as always.

    SVS subs

20-39PC+ owner for 3 years now. I have owned 3 subs, a Klipsch SW-8 II, a Paradigm (can't think of the model, the one under the servo 15) and this SVS. I demoed countless subs including many that were quite a bit more than my SVS and frankly nothing delivered the quality of the SVS. With music this sib disapears and blends in with my RF-7's very nicely. With movies the sub can absolutely knock your socks off. I am 100% thrilled with my sub. SVS has a trial period were you can send your sub back if not 100% satisfied, all you are out is the shipping and while that's sort of a leap of faith, there arent that many that get sent back. I would suggest demoing as many subs as you can with movies or music you are familier with and then ordering a SVS for a trial and see if you arent equally impressed with their product. If you are not sure which model to get, then you can email their tech support with a description of your room, equipment, budget and listening habbits and they can nail down a good fit for you. Good luck with your quest.
  14. I thought DVD was fine. It's a bit on the softcore porn side of things, but they used some unique video stuff and the songs are still good to hear. I thought the audio was fine. Mic being as sick as he is isnt able to do a lot of the things you come to expect from a hard rock band lead guitarist and I thought early he wasnt hitting everything, but as the show moved on it seemed like he warmed up a bit. I agree though that the Crew is with Vince. He doesnt have as strong a vocal a he once did, but I thought he did the songs justice. My 2 cents
  15. Actually, for me, that song was by far the highlight of the movie....especially the opening version. It sounded great coming through the system.
  16. I genuenly like Moulan Rouge and Chicago...but I was luke warm at best with Rent which we rented and I am glad that was all we did. I just couldnt get into it.

    Worst movie of 2005

Not sure it came out at the theater in 2005, but I think it was on DVD in 2005. Anyway, perhaps the worst movie ever made IMO was Alone in the Dark. If you havent had the chance to view this pant load then count yourself lucky. This movie is so bad that in one scene the lady is on the ground dead and right as the scene is coming to an end she starts to get up. Aparently the editor missed this when editing and clearly the director chose not to reshoot this scene. What a pile of dung.
  18. I heard it was a good movie just today as a matter of fact, so I put it in my Netflix que.
  19. Got this as a Christmas gift. Liquid Tension Experiment 2 on CD 1: Acid Rain 2: Biaxident 3: 914 4: Another Demension 5: When The Water Breaks 6: Chewbacca 7: Liquid Dreams 8: Hourglass Tony Levin, Bass (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel and many more) John Petrucci, Guitar (Dream Theater) Mike Portnoy, Drums (Dream Theater) Jordan Rudess, Keyboards (Dixie Dreggs, Dream Theater) "A sort of instrumental prog rock/prog metal super group , Liquid Tension issued it's self titled debute in 1998 and regrouped the following year for Liquid Tension Experiment 2" Allmusic.com
  20. I just received this from my favorite store. This is available in a SACD Stereo Hybrid and is a fantastic recording. Lush Life wont wow anyone looking for a ton of material, but what it lacks in quantity, it makes up it quality. There are only 5 tracks totaling a little over 30 minutes of pure Coltrane.
  21. Boom? Does you sub sound boomy? The movies that was mentioned are excellent examples of powerful LFE.
  22. I would be interested possibly, I have the cd, but would love to see them since I never have. Tell them to shoot me a message with a price please.
  23. I havent participated in a while. I have been in a Porg rock mode for a while and have a bit of an obscure suggestion for those prog rock fans. OSI (Office of Strategic Influence). There is only one and it is self titled, although rumor has it there is a second project underway. OSI features Jim Matheos, Kevin Moore, Mike Portnoy, Sean Malone and features Steve Wilson on one track. Overall I really like this disk, although it might not be ground breaking it is one that many have not heard and there is some quality music on it. Of course anything with Portnoy and Steve Wilson is pretty solid. I will try to link a picture. I found mine at Best Buy, but there is a special edition that has a second disk and if I were buying today I would order the S.E.
