  1. Well I am going to break froma my normal suggestion of some rock band to Jazz. Recently I purchased Telarcs SACD Sampler disk #3 which is a multichannel Jazz sampler and it is fantastic. This marks the second Telarc sampler that I have purchased, both of the Jazz genre and I love both disks. I find both to be an excellent value with not only fantastic recording quality but an overall excellent multichannel experiance plus with almost 70 minutes of material it was a no brainer. One of the other reasons for selecting the Telarc sampler is to hear more of a vaiety of jazz artists. I am not as familier with jazz and have a modest growing library, so these give me some ideas for future purchases.
  2. Just screened this last night and wanted to comment on how good I thought this movie was. We found it used for $10 and I wasnt dissapointed. Nice to hear it was accurate as well. Final battle lasted 18 minutes in real life....thats just amazing.

    S A W

Also has a great 6.1 sound. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.
  4. I frequent various differant HT forums and the mojority of the opinions I have read about these two movies was that they werent very good. Cronicals has just been downright bashed. I was intrigued enough so I bought both as I really enjoy Sci Fi like this and I really liked both. I thought Cronicals was easier to watch because Pitch Black has a scene that lasts for a while in total darkness save for a really bright flashing light and that does get a little old. Otherwise I enjoyed both. Your miles may vary, but I would and did purhcase them both.

There is no auto calibration that can substitue a meter placed in the sweet spot. I have the RS-7's and they do a fine job of filling the surround field with appropriate information.

PERIOD. (unless you have a firewire or I-link connection, which the 4802 doesn't have, iirc.) I do not know if you are referring to his set up only but this is not a true general statement. I am listening to a multi channel SACD on my Denon DVD 2200 and my Yamaha RX V3300 and have no multi channel analog cables connected. All the decoding is done by the DAC's my Yamaha via the optical cable from the Denon. ---------------- sivadselim was correct with the original statement. Unless there is a firewire used the only other way to get true SACD or DVD-A multichannel music to work is by using the 6 analog outputs on the back of the dvd/sacd player. You might be listening to suround sound using a dsp, DTS or Dolby Digital encoding, but you are not listening to SACD multichannel music if you are.
  8. Yet another set up. I run large for my RF's and RC-7 and set my crossover to 40. Sounds to me like since pretty much everyone is doing something differant you simply need to give each one a try. I suggest leaving one setup for a week or so before changing so you can really tell when you find something you like best. Take notes of the ones you like and then if you have a couple differant setups that you liked you can go back and do an A-B comparison of them.
  9. This past year netted some outstanding concert dvd's for both PQ as well as SQ. Simon and Garfunkles old friends Eric Claptons Crossroads guitar festival Eric Claptons Sessions for Robert J (not a true concert, but amazing none the less) The U2 that was mentioned No Quarter, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant unleaded These are the main ones that jump out as far as 04 releases that were stunning in SQ & PQ. I would put any of these in a league that would include any other concert as far as those two criteria is concerned. Now you may or may not like the content of these disks, but the quality of these are awsome. Two others that are a tad older, yet fantastic is The Bee Gees, One Night Only and David Gilmore in concert. Prior to this past years releases these are my favorite two for SQ & PQ.
  10. Allman Brothes Eat a Peach SACD has I am sure been mentioned on one of these threads, but as a person who was not all that familier with them I can say this is excellent music that everyone can enjoy. The surround mix is nice as well. Worth a purchase even if you are not a multichannel music fan as this is a hybrid disk and can be played about on anything.
  11. Here is a couple shots of mine, nothing major. (not sure how to do the pictures so you may have to go to the links. http://image20.webshots.com/21/4/37/40/225843740IhefYw_ph.jpg http://image28.webshots.com/28/4/28/37/225842837rnVwjz_ph.jpg http://image18.webshots.com/18/4/41/88/225844188cGaopE_ph.jpg http://image20.webshots.com/21/2/19/22/218021922xIccjK_ph.jpg
  12. Something a bit differant from whats listed. I recently purchased Lenny Kravitz Greatest Hits. This is my first Kravitz disk and while I have heard a lot of this music there are a few songs that I wasnt familier with. I find that if there is an artist I don't own anything of I often purchase a greatest hits type of cd and then work my way into his or her catelogue from there. This is a very good disk and really showes Lenny's versatility as a musician with a rockin "American Women" and then a very jazzy "It Aint Over Till its Over". Anyway, it's not for everyone, but a nice change of pace for my collection. On a side note, I seem to keep suggesting rock every week, I promise I have a modest collection of a wide variety of genre's other than Rock or Hard rock....really I do

    RAY

One of the best movies I have seen in a long LONG time.
  14. Foxman

    DTS

it seems to be hit or miss. I have some that sound better one way and some the other. I wish every movie had both so we can chose. The best example of DTS being better IMO is with the video disk on Sessions for Robert J by Eric Clapton. I listened to it all the way comparing both and the DTS clearly has a more lively sound with what seems to be much better seperation. Bourne Identity is another I can think of that is better to me in DTS. I have read that article before or one like it, and while maybe true I think how the sound reaches our ears is dependant on a lot of variables such as the equipment and room accousitcs, then factor in our own preferances and perceptions it all becomes pretty complicated.
  15. Some great suggestions so far, but I am changing things up with this one a bit. I recently read a thread on another forum about this music/concert DVD and it has taken me a few weeks to actually find it but as I type this I am very much enjoying this disk. What disk is you ask?? http://www.intervocative.com/cgi-bin/data/myprofiler/images/0349703242f.jpg Jimmy Page & Robert Plants, No Quarter Unleaded DVD. IT has DTS and sounds fantastic. Speaking of Alan Parsons, right around Christmas I purchased Irobot and On Air on HDAD, interesting music.

    The Lawnmower Man

I always liked that movie, I havent seen it in a while so I might have to pick that one up it's pretty original.
  17. I saw that, I wouldnt hold your breath on that under 6grand staying that way. My guess is that it will end up over 10K

    The Village

I own all 4 movies and while I don't think the Village is quite the same quality overall as sixth sense I still like it. Of the 4 I'd rate them Sixth Sense Unbreakable Signs The Village With that said I really like all 4.
  19. WOW, so you actually tack the horn out and rotate it 180 degrees? I am trying to picture that, wouldnt that leave gaps because isnt the horn a rectangle?? As far as hanging the RC I assume thats hanging upside down using the pre made screw holes that were for the support pegs and thus not having to drill new holes or are they on a stand thats hanging? I am just curious what you creative folks have done here as I have not really thought about differant uses for the RC. Thanks. (Sorry for the thread jack) Too answer the first initial question, go with the RF's
  20. ---------------- On 2/10/2005 12:52:43 PM m00n wrote: Did someone mention my name? paulk Yes, I did audition 2 RC7s against 2 RB-75s as well as just 2 RC7s performing 2 channel stereo. Durring that time I gained a WHOLE LOT of respect for the RC7s. People see the "C" in the RC7 name and think "CENTER" and "CENTER" channel only. Or people argue that it has a tapered array crossover, ok so... To the neysayers, I say, you need to hear them in stereo. I personally found that they are MUCH more than just a center speaker. So, yes, I'm running RC7s as my surrounds. HOWEVER, I will add this and I'm no professor in this, so take it with some grain of salt... If you have an odd shapped room, or un even seating, or what ever, you may want to consider the RS7s. I've heard they are more forgiving in less than favorable room shapes. Here is another caviot with the RC7s as surrounds. They are rear ported so they need a few inches behind them to breath and be most effective. Even though my RC7s are flat up against the wall right now, I still chose them over the RB75s If you are considering the RF7s, get them if you can afford them. If you are considering the RB75s for main, I would HIGHLY encourage you to consider the RC7s. If nothing else, at LEAST do a side by side comparrison between the a pair of RC7s and pair of RB75s. I'd run RC7s as my mains in a heartbeat if I didn't have my RF7s. ---------------- mOOn, thats VERY interesting to me. I really like my RC-7 and the only complaint I really have about it is that I wish it was rated as low as my RF-7 as I prefer to run my crossover at 40 hz. Thats a minor concern though overall as I am happy with the speaker. That said your the first person that I know of that has considered them as you have. Question, if you ran a pair of RC-7's as mains, would you set them on end? Also, how are your RC's set up for surrounds, flat or on end? Thats a hefty surround fo sho.

    Sharke Tale anyone?

I enjoyed it at the theater, but havent screened it at home yet, although we bought it.
  22. Porcupine Tree: Stars Die the delerium years 1991-1997 This is kind of a best of from 1991-1997 and reflects just how long this band has been going. This is pretty Floydish music if you are not accustomed to their work. In Absentia is another of their more popular works and is pretty widly available here in the states as a DVD-A with awsome music and sound quality. Stars Die really takes you a bit deeper into the group and I have grown to appreciate the disk. I also like the fact that it covers so much time since I was really only familier with In Absentia. They have a new release due out soon and it will also be released 5.1 so be on the look out for that one as well.
  23. There were 5 of us watching including to boys age 9 & 7. I liked it, but only two of us did and surprisingly neither of my boys liked it. It's completely differant from anything I have seen but I found it refressing and thought the PQ/SQ was top notch. IMO worth at least a rental for the freshness of the content.
  24. These have been mentioned, but here are some of my all time favs in no particular order: Meet the Parents Me, Myself and Irene Caddy Shack Airplane My Cousin Vinnie Ferris Beullers Day Off Plains Trains and Automobiles American Pie Fletch (most old Chevy Chase flicks) most Pink Panthers Good Morning Vietnam

    Mark Knopfler

Is it true that this album is a completely differant style or genre of music from Dire Straits? If so, how would you classify this one? Thanks for the info, I havent heard much buzz about this one.
