Hi all, I'm looking for replacements for my forte ii passive subs (KD-15), as one has a tiny hole the other was ripped and got duck taped back together by original owner. The look just bugs me, so if any one has a pair they want to get rid or know where to find a DIY recone kit, send a link. I only find active sub kits or surround kits. So, any help will be appreciated.

Since this is my first post, I owe you an introduction and a little background. As a teenager in the 70's, I read the stereo magazines at the library. I saw the Klipsch ads and became a fan without even hearing them. Then in the Air Force in the late 70's, I bought my first stereo. I walked into the shop, saw the Klipschorns in the corners and asked the salesman to play something. He spun a direct-to-disc of Steely Dan's "Reelin' In The Years" from Can't Buy A Thrill. The only way I could describe the sound is "effortless". Needless to say, at that point I became a lifetime fan even though I didn't have the wallet to back it up. When a long lost friend and I connected several years ago, I learned her husband had a pair of Forte's he bought used for $500, I think. Going for my first visit to their house across the country, I brought some CD's so I could hear them. I'd read a glowing review of the Forte II in the former Stereo Review many years prior and the comments and conclusions stuck in my memory. Upon hearing the Version I's, it was merely confirmation of the Klipsch legend. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. I was playing a CD from the Boston Rally Bass Collection; a series of discs with musical tracks designed to test various bass parameters. I was listening to Disc 1 in my condo; Disc 1 focused on cuts which would tease the lowest octave or two. My current speakers are Mission 700 Leading Edge bookshelf-ers on 24" stands utilizing 6.5" woofers and a 55Hz lower limit. I really wasn't playing them that loud, and the amp wasn't clipping when I started to hear a buzz. Uh oh; I think I blew a woofer! Now, this could be a good thing because my speakers are 28 years old and I wouldn't mind replacing them. I started crawling all over eBay and Craigslist for Klipsch speakers. But I'm cheap. So I decided to see if I could determine what's wrong and perhaps repair them. I swapped woofers in the cabinets but the buzz stayed with the cabinet. I couldn't imagine the crossover being the culprit but I inspected them anyway; no burning smells or cracked components. Hmmm. Then I got the bright idea to play them again using the same disc but at a lower volume; NO BUZZ. That told me something might be cracked. Both speakers had a fine, imperfect line running down the longest open span of the baffle. Looked like a crack to me, so I got the bright idea to drill a 1/8" hole mid-span of the "crack" and insert a wood screw. That might act like a wedge and shore up the baffle. It didn't work. I then rapped on the baffle with my knuckles and found it; the super low bass had loosened the adhesive holding the baffle onto the cabinet face! My solution was to flow some Gorilla Glue into the edge where the baffle meets the cabinet. I cleaned up the excess, and it worked! Now I had two good, working speakers and no reason to buy a pair of Klipsch's. But the seed was planted. I have found a pair of Heresy II's on Craigslist for $700. From the description, they're definitely audiophile-owned and well cared for. Also on Craigslist, I found a pawn shop that had a pair of BOTH Forte's AND Forte II's, for $500 and $550 respectively. Well, obviously I didn't act on them quick enough so the Forte II's are gone. But the Forte's are still available and calling my name. Now to the questions: Of course you think "pawn shop" and you think "junk" but the ad says they're in excellent shape. Photos show the bridging straps between the binding posts are missing. Are they available or would I have to cobble something together? I'm an electronic tech so I could solder a pair of jumpers in my sleep, but the real deal appeals to me. Also, is there a way to test the speakers without playing them to ensure the drivers are in working order? Is a resistance test with an ohmmeter reasonably reliable? Assuming the pawn shop doesn't have the means to audition these, and assuming they have a no return policy, can you still get replacement drivers or crossover parts? If I perform a resistance test on-site, what are good numbers I should see for the woofer and for the combined horn drivers? I'm inclined to think the Heresy's would be a better match for my condo-living. They have the same lower end cutoff as my Mission 700's but somehow I expect the bass will exceed my existing speakers in all aspects, without breaking a baffle! The only problems are they are selling for $200 more than the Forte's and it's perhaps an extra hour's drive to pick them up. Hello all, I recently got a set of Forte's and I love them already. They sound great, but I plan to get the Crite's upgrades soon. I've noticed an issue with the front and passive woofers though.. When I turn the volume up too high (higher than I usually play them) the woofers begin to kind of lose control and become very distorted, they start to shake violently and the only way to stop it is to turn the volume back down. This only happens with vinyl also, not with CDs. The needle/cartridge on my turntable are only about 7mo/1.5years old, respectively. Anybody else experience this or know how I might go about fixing this? This is my first post on here btw, many forums have been helpful to me in the past. I couldn't find a post with this specific problem so I decided I would post it myself. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Which would you choose for 2-channel if you had a choice between Forte II's and Quartets? What's a good price for each?

My Dads old Fortes are in mint condition - I have replaced the crossovers and diaphragms from Bob Crites and added a big HSU subwoofer - I LOVE the setup -- my grills are also in perfect condition but Id love to have a set in cane!!!! Does anyone know where I can pick up a spare set of the grill frames??? I appreciate any help - I don't want to take the original grill cloth off my existing setup in case I don't like the cane or want to go back to the original stock look

I'm primarily looking for 2-channel and don't crank the volume. Finesse, detail, clarity are what I'm looking for. Currently up for consideration are a pair of Forte II's for $450 vs. Tangent 5000's for $400. Which would you choose and why; what do you think are the strengths & weaknesses of each pair? Would you choose differently if these were for home theater instead of 2-channel?

Greetings Kilpsch family! I just put Crites crossovers and new tweeter diaphragms in my Forte IIs. I should have paid more attention to the way the speaker wires were connected, I noted the phase of the squawker, but not the woofer. I know the tweeters are correct, because they are marked. The squawker was still connected in one of the speakers so I am pretty sure that's right. Does the phase of the woofer make any difference? My friend has an identical pair and his seem to get richer bottom end. He seems to think it does not matter, so I thought I'd put this to the experts. I'd appreciate any help on this. Thanks! Leon

Greetings fellow audio folks. I am new to the forum, so let me now if this is not an appropriate post here. I just picked up pair of Forte IIs on Ebay for $510. I was not able to audition them before I bought them, and when i got home and hooked them up, the first thing I noticed was a lack of high end. Neither of the top horns are working! I am reaching out to the seller tomorrow, but he's 200 miles away. Is there anything i can I can do easily to troubleshoot, or will they need to be looked at by knowledgeable technician--it happens I know a very good one. If the horns are blown out, are there replacements available for these older speakers? Thanks for any light you can shed on this. i bought these after hearing some that a friend of mine owns. I simply could not believe the sound. Leon

For sale are a pair of Klipsch Quartet floor standing speakers. They are completely original and perform flawlessly. Aesthetically they are a solid 9, with only a few minor scratches on the risers and one scratch on the top of one of the boxes. I've had these speakers for about 3 years, 2 of them were spent in a closet. Just figured someone else might get more enjoyment out of them. More images upon request. Would anyone happen to have experience running a Yamaha Integrated amplifier with the original Klpisch forte'? or even Marantz I have my eyes on these models Marantz PM6005, Marantz PM5005, Yamaha A-S301, and the Yamaha A-S501. Which would sound best with the forte? if at all, and would the 45 watts even be enough if i went with the Marantz? if neither of these would be a good choice it would be greatly appreciated if someone more experienced than myself could recommend a different make. but I have a $700-$800- budget rather stay around the $500 mark, opinions and recommendations would be great! let me know what you guys think.

I've been cleaning up a pair of Klipsch Quartet's that I'll be powering with my Amps & Sound Classic Wonder single ended 6B4G triode tube amp. The squawkers and tweeters both run too high in comparison to the woofers, and I'd like to reduce them by about 5dB. Currently I have a pair of Heresy II's that I'm using $89 ALK Engineering transformer tweeter attenuators (set a -5db). What value of resisters can I use to accomplish the exact same thing without spending $89 a set? Thanks, Mike

Do low wattage Tube Amplifiers sound better then higher wattage Tube Amplifiers? I am thinking the sound stage of my old rusty stock Dynakit ST70 sounded more three dimensional then my new highly modified Dynaco MKIII Monoblocks that has newer tubes and better everything else inside. Am I crazy? I also talked to someone that swears the McIntosh MC225 sounds better the 240 or famously popular 275. Plus I'm seeing a couple quality amp builders (tubenirvana.net and ampsandsound.com) selling some very low wattage amps. Would love to hear some general opinions, as well as opinion on the best amps to pair with Heresy II and Forte II's for listening to in a condo at normal to lower volumes. Last, say you're doing biamp configuration and only using the tube power to run squawkers/tweeters on Heresy II's or Forte II's, what's the ideal amp for that? Cheers Mike

I recently set up my Forte speakers into a more prominent listening position. As a consequence I decided to install some of Bob Crites tweeter diaphragms and am now considering new crossovers. In corresponding with Bob regarding the installation he mentioned foam baffles within the Forte cabinet. Mine do not have any foam installed. There is an angled brace at the bottom of the cabinet but other than that it is an empty cabinet with the speakers installed. I am the original owner of these speakers purchased in the 80's from a dealer and they have never been worked on except for the modification I just made. Can anybody shed some light on whether the Fortes had foam installed internally? If so should I try to install some? What would be the benefit?

I was going through all of the "stuff" I have accumulated over the years and found the original crossover network boards for my Forte II. I had replaced the Klipsch networks with ALK networks a few years back. I have two pairs of Forte II, one from October 1989, WO with brown heather grill cloth and a second pair from June 1992, WO with #19 black grill cloth. I took a good look at the network circuit boards and discovered and the early network board has the tweeter in a "normal" connection configuration and the newer network board has the tweeter in reverse connection configuration. Both boards are etched with the same board number KSC 101. I recall some forum conversation a while back when the network schematic list was being put together, there was an issue with the Forte II network schematic and it was redrawn by one of the forum members. Now I am thinking the schematic is was correct for the early production of the Forte II. Just curious, does anyone know when the network was changed?
