  1. Just saw these pop up. https://corvallis.craigslist.org/ele/d/philomath-klipsch-la-scala-speakers-pair/7213427945.html CL corvallis > for sale > electronics - by owner post account ◀ prev ▲ next ▶ reply favorite hide ⚐ flag Posted about an hour ago print Klipsch La Scala Speakers - Pair - $2,000 (Philomath) image 3 of 6 © craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap make / manufacturer: Klipsch model name / number: La Scala I have decided to put my Klipsch La Scalas up for sale. These are in great condition and have several upgrades to improve the listening experience. Sequential serial numbers 8668465 and 8668466. Finished in Birch veneer, these speakers look almost as good as they sound! 2. Short story long, got divorced, moved into a condo, sold my Mac 4200, time to sell my babies. They are in perfect working order and cosmetically beautiful for 43 year olds. I have plenty of quality pics I can send if you contact me directly. I have them for sale locally but would prefer they went to a good Klipsch home. Located near New Orleans in Mandeville, La. I was asking 2500 locally to scare away the riff raff. Open to reasonable offers. I will sell the all original 77s for 1950.
  3. Hello Klipsch Audio Community, I run a small independent music venue that hosts electroacoustic performances as well as club nights. Our house sound system is comprised of 4 La Scala speakers with 8 matching bass cabinets in a quadraphonic array. I have been running this system on budget (yorkville) amplifiers which have sounded great thus far, but I have recently decided to upgrade the amplifier to really get the room sounding as good as possible. The space is a second floor wood warehouse and the ceiling and walls have all been insulated with sound proofing material – the room sounds fantastic however I know that the amps are my current bottle-neck for making it sound even better. So my question to the community is what amplifiers would be ideal in this situation, considering the speakers are used somewhat industrially (typically around 100 dBa). I'm especially intrigued by by switching to tube amps, however I don't necessarily care for legacy brands such as McIntosh where I feel like name adds a premium onto the cost... Or maybe I'm wrong? (Please ignore speakers in centre of room)
  4. Hi guys..just signed up...total newbie to the forum. May not be posting this in right place? Newbie to forum...but i do own a set of Cornwall 1 with Fastlane wood horn upgrade to mid, and rebuilt crossovers - plus a set of SpeakerLab K-Horn clones with rebuilt xovers. Have had Cwall 3 in the past. Im in Alberta,. Canada...and have a chance to trade some gear for a set of La Scala that I believe to be what I know as "industrial" models...havent seen them yet, no photos. These apparently are 2 piece, but not sure if top piece is a rectangular box or wedge shape? Dont know what finish, but definately have metal edging. I am assuming has all original drivers, but will need to verify. Present owner has modded the bottom of base cabinet to open into an additional box for more bass, but says he has the original wooden base pieces to return to stock. Am trying to get a grip on what value? Up here a set of home model La Scala seem to be going for $1500 - 2500 depends on how old and what finish. I missed a nice set for $1200 that had ALK crossovers and I think Bob Crites tweeter upgrade. Poor weenie Canadian dollars...so take off 1/3 for US perspective. I know very little about the Industrial line, like is that even what people call them? Good info would be helpful and interesting. I understand the woofer is a different model (K43?)- with higher power handling, but perhaps with not quite as good a hi fi sound as the home models? It would help me to know what they are worth. And how easy would be to sell? I get the feeling that home models would be easier to sell and worth more? I keep talking sell...as not sure have a space to use them...maybe, maybe not. Have same issue with my SpeakerLab K-Horns...not using them as no space right now. So resale is something i need to know. My limited understanding is that....the 2 piece are worth more than a 1 piece (and easier to move), and the wedge top is worth more than the rectangular top, and the metal trim is worth more than no metal, and that there is some model with a fiberglass or pebble type finish (not regular paint) which is worth the most (when combined with metal edges?) Help please!!

  6. Hi All, Pretty new to the forum but long time speaker collector.... Would love to find a pair of La Scala's within driving distance to NYC. So, basically just East Coast and I'd be happy to road trip to ya. Thanks! MB
  7. Hey all, I received these klipsch lascala cabinets for free. Unfortunately they didn't come with speakers installed and it's not worth it for me to store them and fix them up. If you're anywhere around Central Florida you're welcome to pick them up. Otherwise I'll have to toss them to make space in the garage.
  8. From the album: Paladin's System Album

Here is my pair of 70th Anniversary La Scala II They are powered by a 5wpc custom EL85 based tube amplifier built by Bob Getchell in Brownsburg, IN out of parts from an old Sears "Silvertone" Hi-Fi console. I'm using a Young DSD DAC as a digital audio source with a HIFI PC to manage the audio. The Turntable is a Stelvio by Gabilier Audio out of Colorodo and is equipped with a Tri-Panar tonearm. It's powered by a Teddy Prado external supply. The Pre-Amp is a tubed Aria WVX.
  9. SOLD-SOLD-SOLD I just purchased these. They took 3 months to get here. During that 3 months I have purchased a set that was designed for my Cornscalas and my listening habits specifically. I am sure you know about these already if you are reading this. I have about 1 Hour on them. I wanted to do a comparison with the other 2 crossovers I have. I paid $358.18 that included shipping and 3 months of wait time. I'll let them go for $325 shipping included and no 3 month wait time to the lower 48 states.
  10. Selling my pair of 1989 klipsch La Scalas. They come with the original type Al crossover. I purchased the Crites A/4500 crossovers and CT120 tweeters. ($455 total when I purchased them) I also had him drop the mids down 3db on the crossovers. This tamed the mids some and brought out more bass. You can reverse this if you would like. I have before and after pictures if you prefer to go back to original Crites settings. The Type AL still sounds good and gives you 2 options when you are listening to them. Both are included in the sale. The speakers are still in great shape obviously but aren't perfect. The only real thing that needs to be pointed out, besides the fact that the area that holds the crossovers needs a good dusting, is that the tops have some small areas to take note of. I added a big 2X2 piece of tile with felt on the bottom to the tops of the La Scalas (shown in pictures) This gave me the ability to place a lamp or an amp on the tops without concern for damaging them. They Still sound fantastic. Local pickup only. No returns and No refunds. Make me an offer. Enjoy!

  12. I have a pair of La Scala from 1979 with AA crossovers. I would like to know what listening value does putting in a new Type AA Pair crossover system would do? I am currently playing the La Scala through a McIntosh MA252 which I am enjoying. Want to know if it is worth the change over? Thanks M O'Neill
  13. This is an updated post now that the bass bins are done. I just completed a pair of La Scalas clones and bass bins. Although I am not completely satisfied with the finish I chose, the La Scalas do sound AMAZING, and that is what counts. I may re-do them next summer. Project was about a month from start of research to plugging them in. I wish I had researched staining Baltic Birch before doing it. For those interested in the particulars: Mid-range horn is the Eliptrac 400 and and the tweeter horn is the Eliptract HF - I modified the motorboard and the speaker sides 5" taller to accomodate the Eliptrac 400. The openings in the motorboards were cut with a CNC router for exact fits. I left the horns natural MDF and then stained them. I deliberately left traces of the rings in the Eliptrac 400 as I like the look. The construction is all 3/4" Baltic Birch. I may go back and include the braces if the resonance issue I have read about becomes a problem. The drives and crossovers are all Bob Crites. Tweeter is the CT 120. Mid-range is the A-55G mounted to the Eliptrac 400 with an PS 50 aluminum adapter. Woofer is the CW 1526 (Stamped frame). The crossover is the AL3. As to the bass bins, the grills in the front of the tubes pop in and out although I have to admit I cannot hear any difference. I cut the 4" diameter PVC tubes to a length of 7" in accordance with comments I reviewed in the forums. Yes, I know that the bass bins are narrower than the speakers. Some idiot (me) cut the top and bottom of the bins from the dimensions of the Chamber Bottom (22 1/4" x 23 3/4") based on the attached plans. They should have been 23 3/ 4" by 23 3/4". I do have enough wood to make another pair and may do that next summer when I refinish the speakers. I did catch that the lid for the bass bin in the plans is backwards. Mine also have internal bracing, and corner reinforcements, and supports I made for the 4" tubes. I am presently using an Yamaha RX A3070 with the pre-outs for the La Scala clones routed through a completely restored and refurbished Phase Linear 400 Series Two. The system has to do double duty between an Audio/Video system and a stereo.
  14. I am in love with these La Scalas and would like to found out "how they did it" finiis, veneer (oak?), grill support and all the other details. This is the look I am after for my really beat up 1976 La Scalas. Thanks to all.
  15. for the past 4 nights...not really trying to post pad; just bored.
  16. Hi everyone - I got rid of my nice floor standing speakers a few years back when I remodeled and put in wall / ceiling speakers. Well they are fine to watch TV - but man I sure miss listening to "good sound." So I have decided to purchase some nice Klipsch speakers. Im leaning toward the Klipshorn - but I am worried about my room layout. The room is about 20x30 - the speakers would be about 15 feet apart - one side - perfect corner to go in - the other side - is like a 3/4 corner - what I mean by that is one side of the corner is normal but the other side the wall sticks out only about 18" - so the speaker would stick passed the wall about 8 to 9 inches. Beyond the little 18" wall it opens to a hallway - the next wall is about 3 feet away. Also Im wondering about acoustics. My room has NO carpet - the floor is all tile, hallway is wood. Ceilings are 9 feet high. Also the kitchen opens up into that room- kinda like a big L - its like an open design house - one big room. Could I put Khorns in the room or would the sound be lost and or not sound good? I am located in the SF bay area, Livermore to be exact. I have not found a place to listen to Khorns (I havnt heard them in 25 years probably) There is a dealer about a 2 hour drive - but he only has La Scala II on demo. I have thought about buying a pair of used La Scala's but they are not very good looking except for the ones only a few years old. The other downside I keep reading about, a lot of people on here say if you use the La Scala's you should run a Sub with them. The speakers would just be used for music - not hooked up to home entertainment. More than likely I would be using a Fisher 500c to run them. Any feed back would be appreciated. and any info on where I could hear some Khorns - that would also be appreciated. Any members in the area that run an older set - sure would like to hear them to. Thanks and have a great day, Ted
  17. I'm trying to find out more about upcoming price increase for La Scalas. I hear the special edition AL5 will be $12,000 a pair. But what will the more standard ones cost? And, what is the difference between the special and regular versions? Thanks.
  18. Making my morning rounds on craigslist yesterday I spotted a pair of La Scalla industrial that were located in Rhode Island . The "Hook was set" when I read the price of $400. I emailed at 8:30 and got a call back from the seller an hour later and made the appointment to have a look. One was described as functioning and sounding "good", the other, Not So good. So I got the address which was about an hour from home and got the cash and some Fuel and set off. What I found when I saw them were a pair of Non split cabs that were from an estate where one of the cabs was brutalized for who knows why. The side was pried apart and the top lifted but the dog house was intact. The seller was firm on the price so I finally agreed. We loaded them into the back of my F250 and I was on my way and home by 1:30 . When I got home and pulled out the component's of the damaged unit to further assess the possibility to re-glue it I believe it will be possible to fix. The damaged LSI is missing both handle so I'll need a pair but otherwise it is complete. The damaged LSI (I have not gotten into the other cab yet) has a K43 steel frame, K55M with aluminum K400 horn, K77M and a AL crossover network. Cabinets have black spatter paint with rounded over tops and openings for the K77M and K400. The pair is sequential and built in the first week of 1985 . It is supposed to be a nice weekend so I'll bring it outside with all of my clamps at the ready to glue and nail it back together. Hope everyone has a great weekend... Sorry, no pictures as the camera is broke.
  19. Hi everyone, I'm in search of La Scalas for my Summer DJ setup. These will be paired with my SVS PB16 Ultra subwoofers. My budget is flexible. AL3 LS-BR's in good condition is my preference. Black will also be ok. LS2's are a budget possibility if they actually exist, but I understand that's a unicorn market. I'm monitoring FB, Craigslist, OfferUp, etc... Feel free to forward any ads, but a friend of a friend with 3 pairs in the garage would a nice occurrence! Thank you very much. - Brad
  20. I've got a couple of industrial La Scalas, and would like to clean them up a bit...What's the best way to clean the surfaces? I have (for lack of a better term) the "Rhino liner" surfaces with aluminum trim. Not using them much outside anymore, so I'd like to clean them up for my "man cave"!
  21. Just sharing link for hookup bid @ $200 right now in Chattanooga TN https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa=Main.Item&itemid=143&acctid=12364
  22. Been enjoying my La scalas. They are a bit stained/dirty? I tried the beeswax/orange paste wipe on wipe off and didnt really notice a difference. Do i need to sand/buff and then what to seal it? They are raw birch and i love that look so want to keep that look and not stain/color/tint them..... Any advice???
  23. Ok, so I have a set of majestic Klipshorns, but have always wanted a set of La Scalas that I can haul around to friends houses, have outside at parties, take to work, etc. I have a spare set of K33's, K55's / K401's, and K77's, along with a set of AA crossovers that all need cabinets for a home. After I saw the splits I knew that that's how I'd like to have them. I found a pair of empty but severely beat up La Scala factory cabinets near me, and with the help of a friend (thanks, @Hornographic) we retrieved them. These things even have a bit of mold on them and a hideous gloss paint job. I'll update this thread as I go (with pictures), assuming anyone is interested.
