Fellow Klipsch comrades, I am happy to share that I got a pair of LaScala Industrial this weekend. These are my first and while I love my current set up of Forte II's, in the limited garage listening time, the LSi's (in my opinion) definitely have better detail to the sound and the dynamics are quite impressive. They are the single piece and in pretty good shape -- no damage to the doghouse and the drivers are all within specs. I will be entering them in to a rehab program and once completed they will be placed in the living room to displace my Forte II. I want to share and give special recognition to Matthews and JimJimbo, both of these guys are BEYOND awesome. Both of these guys provided some great advice and I wouldn't have felt the same level of confidence in getting the LSi's if it hadn't been for these guys. Thanks a million!!! So the plan for rehab is as follows: Paint a fresh couple of coats of duratex Buy some Crites tweeters Buy new caps to refresh the AL-3's. Buy some aluminum trim All told, i think I anticipate spending about $275 to get where I want to be. Any additional thoughts or suggestions are welcomed. I reworked my 1983 LaScala crossovers several years ago. Lasts month I upgraded my mid horns to Dave's Fastrac's. I am now looking at new tweeters. I am trying to decide between Crites CT120's or ALK Eliptrac DE 120's. Any suggestions or comments? ​ Thx

Hey Folks, I work with teens at the Boys & Girls Club and we've recently acquired four very old (in poor shape, paint, rust, etc.) LaScala speakers. Three of the four are "working" (don't seem to sound quite right), the other has no bass. I'm not up to date with all the technical info I see on the posts but believe that with our wood shop we'd be able to refinish the boxes and replace the workings. What we need is a simple list of the parts (and where to order) to make them like new. Thinking we can sell a pair to pay for the project. I've had a pair of these speakers for 40 years and know how good they can sound. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thank you for considering this sale! A pair of great Professional Klipsch Split Version of La Scala Speakers that sound amazing. I purchased them when i started my mobile dj business on 1986. I recently tested them with a Crown Micro Tech 1200 amplifier and they are working great : crossovers, woofers, midrange and tweeters. I have the speakers since they are new, they a version of the home speakers intended for higher wattage use in professional settings. The top section of the speaker (tweeter and squaker) is not attached to the bass cabinet, making it very easy to transport. I'm selling my Bob Crites Style C Cornscala high efficiency speakers. These are Klipsch Cornwall + LaScala hybrids, combining the best qualities of each speaker. They are incredibly efficient, operating at 102dB sensitivity. They're perfect with SET amps or any tube amp offering 2 or more watts. They have selenium drivers, and were finished by the previous owner. I have rated them at a 7 because there's a ~1.5" sliver of wood that chipped off the bottom front of one speaker. This would be for a Klipschorn, but it might also be for a LaScala, a Belle, or a Heresy. I am wondering what might happen if I used a 15 inch powered subwoofer in a Klipschorn. The way this might happen would be to put the woofer itself in the Klipschorn (it would be one that needed a new woofer anyway) and run the woofer leads on the Klipschorn crossover to the subwoofer amp. This would mean that the subwoofer amp would need to have speaker level inputs as well as line level inputs. You should be able to take the leads from the crossover and split the pair into two pairs for each speaker input in the subwoofer amp, putting a mono signal to each channel in the subwoofer amp. If successful, you might strengthen and extend that bottom end. Ideally, you might take a Klipschorn all the way down to 20 hz. Having said all that, it appears that a Klipschorn crossover sends signals below 400 hz to the woofer. A powered sub would likely cut off at 100 hz or 150 hz, leaving a gap for signals under 400 hz and over that cutoff frequency. We don't want that. So, would it be possible to bypass that control on the subwoofer amp so that none of the signal was cutoff? Then, (theoretically) the Klipschorn crossover would send everything under 400 hz to the subwoofer amp and in turn that would be passed on to the subwoofer's woofer, now the woofer inside the Klipschorn. If would be easy enough to mount the subwoofer amp somewhere around back of the Klipschorn so it looks good. Although all frequencies could then go through, the Klipschorn crossover would not let high frequencies ever reach the subwoofer amp. Before you make the "drawing a mustache and/or glasses on the Mona Lisa" comment, note that I did NOT say I was going to do this. I said I was wondering about it. I do realize that if this were done, it would have to be done two times for two speakers. Also, the cost might be ridiculous. However, I would like to stay focused on the "what if" and not go to the "why would you?". So, is it possible (and reasonably easy) to bypass the control on a powered subwoofer amp that sets the cutoff frequency, such that all frequencies received go to the amp and to the woofer? If some models could allow this, which ones are they? What other technical issues or challenges or tasks might arise and how would they be dealt with? FYI, I have a very old Klipschorn cabinet in very good shape and I am going to restore the guts and use it as a center channel, flanked by a pair of LaScala's. I would run a mono signal to the Klipschorn and a stereo signal to the LaScala's, using separate amps. Once I get the Klipschorn up and running, the rest is relatively easy. I don't mind having to use multiple amps. So, let the conversation begin.

These were purchased some years back and were installed in an "experimental" Cornwall cab that used Forte horns. These have never been driven hard, and are in like new condition. I have no use for them. Buy my cabinets I've advertised and start yourself building a pair of Cornwalls. Bob carries these for $240/pair new + $25 shipping. The capacitors, on the other hand do have an end of life, the transformer and inductor rarely fail (it would probably require an amp incinerating failure to fry the inductor or transformer). First: Update the 3 caps on the AA crossover, from the schematic in the pinned section. Stock: Sonicaps from Crites or others inc Parts Express brand. To me, stock always sounded very good 2x 2uF capacitors 1x 13uF Alternative Crossover update to lower the volume mids by 3db aka 50% decrease in power to Squawker. This is done to flatten the output across the bass and mids? I currently use an EQ to add output at the 400Hz point and rolling off into the up and down freqs from this point. 2x 2uF caps 1x 6.8 uF cap Both of these updates-mods are stand-alone and can be listened to and evaluated without further mods or repairs. Second This step could be either replace the K-77 (matched ?) phenolic tweeters with the Crites CT-125 EV driver with custom Crites Lens and titanium diaphragm. OR Replace the woofer with the Crites stamped Woofer $$, or Eminence Kappa 15C $, also mentioned above is the K-44 Factory $$$ woofer. http://www.parts-exp...-4-ohm--290-459 Both the tweeter and the woofer "upgrades" are standalone changes and require no mods to the crossover or anything else. Third If the K-77 is replaced with the Crites CT 125, as an option after moving to the CT-125.....the crossover point between the Squawker and the CT-125 can be lowered to take advantage of the increased range of the CT-125. Maybe if we had the engineer's notes we could know how the decision was made, I'm sure lots of trial and "does this sound better than"........ My opinion the LaScala: PK was a very good audio engineer, everything was done for a reason. Speakers that sound good, sell better. Was the mid range 400-6,000 intentionally boosted to put the human (Female) voice more forward aka Hear the Angels Singing? The K-55 really makes the angels sing. The low end could be better, a design trade off

Due to an upcoming move i have downsize my inventory of Klipsch Industrial speakers. I can provide pictures. LaScala split with extra bass bins ( i used 1 high with 2 bass bins) 6.5 pairs; 1 pair Cornwall IIs, 1 pair Heresy, 1 Pair MWM subs with Gauss drivers, Location Ottawa, Canada - Close to Ogdensburg NY I am the original owner. Cornwalls and Heresy are black with plastic trim, LaScalas and MWM subs have aluminum trim and handles.

Today I picked up a second Maple RSW-15 and need some advice on placement. In a few months, I will redesign my front wall and have the LaScala Trio behind a 150" AT Screen. The subs will either go directly beneath the LaScalas in the corners or I can place them in between the LaScalas (behind the new false wall). The right RSW-15 is usually located behind the door that is directly behind it. When I went to put the left RSW-15 behind the door that is directly behind it, the subwoofer would not fit. Long story short, I would need to build a platform like I did on the right side for it to fit. Since the LaScalas will temporarily remain in front of the current false wall, I have 3 options for placement of the subs: Option 1: Add a shelf for the 2nd Subwoofer so that it fits inside the cabinet. Option 2: Put both subs in the corners behind the Left and Right Door on the False Wall. Only problem with this is that the Left and Right LaScala will be about 8 inches in front of it. Not sure how that will effect the sound. Option 3: Leave them where they currently are in the photos below out in the middle of the room. Again, this is only temporary placement....just seeking some advice on what might sound best.

I've been so pleased with the performance of the RSW-15, I decided to purchase it's identical twin! I've passed on several RSW-15's that were out of state due to not wanting to ship this beast. What is the likelihood of finding another Maple RSW-15 locally? Guess about the same likelihood of me finding a single LaScala to use as a center channel. I purchased the sub from it's original owner. The twin is in excellent condition with only minor scratches on the top of the cabinet. Both woofers are in fantastic shape. The speaker grill had all 4 pegs broken and the previous owner used white glue to secure machine screws to the grill so the white shows through the grill. Will likely throw the grill away since I don't use them and it's in pretty rough shape. I haven't cranked them up yet as I need some suggestions regarding placement. I'll start a separate thread in the subwoofer section though.

So my son and I purchased Need for Speed tonight. The wife was heading to bed so that meant the RSW-15 would have to go night night as well since she is such a light sleeper. I switched the LaScalas to Full Range since the sub was turned off. You probably know how I have shared how unimpressed I've been with the bass response from the LaScalas. Tonight, my faith in their low frequency performance has been renewed! We had it at a descent level and I kept finding myself smiling from ear to ear like a little kid on Christmas morn. As the cars raced by and panned from speaker to speaker, the LaScalas continued to impress me with clarity and for the first time, in low frequency. It was so lifelike and immersive that both my son and I kept commenting how sweet it sounded even without the sub. There were a few LFE drops that the LaScalas handled wonderfully smooth without distortion albeit not the slam I get from the RSW-15. When the Army Helicopter pulls up from the ridge in the "Hooking Up" scene, the sound of the rotors of the copter was truly stunning. The more I listen to the LaScalas, the more I confirm that they are a HUGE upgrade from my previous RF-83 / RC-64.

Wakejunkie is getting ready to begin construction of the new front cabinet wall and this evening, he sent me the final sketchup file that he designed and needless to say, I'm PUMPED!!! The screen will have two hidden latches (similar to door handles on a car) that will release the screen. Gas shocks will hold the screen open. The bottom three middle compartments will be able to slide forward via a 500lb max capacity commercial rail system. This will allow for MUCH easier access to the rear components. The RSW-15 will be moved underneath one of the main LaScalas. Here are the latest renderings from Wake but they do not show the Lighting under the curve and the rear view does not show that the top cabinets will be actual cabinets.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to hear Jeff Hoak's LaScalas and they were beautiful sounding speakers. I had the chance to pick up a pair recently and had TOTALLY forgot how large they were. LOL. These have an absolutely beautiful finish. Other than a few small nicks near the bottom of the cabinets, they are in amazing condition for a 34 year old speaker. Everything looks original and they have AA Crossovers. Serial Numbers are Sequential. Based on the serial number, they are Vintage 1980. There weren't any stickers on the back so I'm not sure of the style these (not even sure what different variety LaScalas came in. I have no idea what finish these are in or if they were stained at one time. Feel free to help educate me on these because I know little to nothing about them. I've been listening to a variety of source material. Youtube and streaming and Airplay from my cell phone sound like garbage on them. Haha. I think it's because they are just very revealing? Once I hooked up Dave Matthews, Eagles and a few other concert DVD's, they sounded very nice. I've always heard guys speak of how the 3-way heritage speakers have better midrange. I've owned Forte II and Chorus II and I thought those were "heritage" but later found out they weren't part of the heritage series. I never felt they blew away my RF-83's in the midrange department. The LaScalas definitely have a better midrange though. That midrange horn is HUGE! The throat on the horn is 2ft deep. It's very smooth and vocals sound amazingly natural. Bass from the LaScalas in my HT is extremely weak. I even turned the crossover for my mains to Full and they were still weak. I've always heard guys say that about the LaScalas and there are a few that "claim" the LaScalas have plenty of bass. Sorry, that's just not the case in my room. Over the next week, I want to move them into my living room (wife has to leave for a few hours to do that). I want to see how bass sounds with hardwood floor and how they sound in a very open floorplan layout. No worries as long as you have a capable sub. My RSW-15 provided plenty of low end to allow the LaScalas to really shine. Movies sounded amazingly clear and precise. Very detailed. My next step is to do some A/B comparison between the LaScalas and the RF-83's to see how they directly compare to each other. Because the LaScalas do not have banana plugs, I have a set of speaker cables hooked up to the RF-83's and a second set hooked up to the LaScalas and will have to change the cables on the back of the amp. It should be another fun comparison. Here are some pics I took of them tonight.

Hey All, I picked up some LaScala's in taking in some gear from a friend. I don't have the space for them in my setup and had hoped to refurb them. I design commercial/pro audio sound systems for a living so I hate to see them go.... If you can brace these up a bit and do the cosmetics, they'd be awesome.
